Monitor – Romelu Lukaku

After starting our series of members’ articles on Wildcard targets with a look at Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, our sights turn to another in-demand frontman.

With Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero currently nursing injuries, Romelu Lukaku’s recent resurgence has not gone unnoticed by Fantasy Premier League managers.

Three goals and a pair of assists in the last five Gameweeks, allied with a trio of strikes over four cup outings in the same timeframe, means that the Man United striker is the second most bought player in FPL ahead of Gameweek 32.

Following a barren autumn period, Lukaku seems to have stepped up his output following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

With two double Gameweeks anticipated for the Red Devils, can the Belgian claim a place in our frontlines for the run-in?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi Guys,

Can I ask your advice please?

I am trying to plan for BB in GW34 and my team is as follows.....

    DeGea, Fabianski

    Robertson, Smalling, Morgan, Dummet, Monreal

    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Cork, Højbjerg

    Aubameyang, Lukaku, Firmino

I can BB and have 12 players playing twice and 3 Liverpool who play Bournemouth - What is everything doing with their Liverpool assets? They have no DGWs but have lovely fixtures and play in 35 - I assume everybody will retain Salah but are you getting rid of the rest?

Also, if I push the button on this team, do you see any easy ways to get Kane in? Does Son to Kennedy and Firmino to Kane leave me in MF trouble?

    Thanks guys.

Uh Oh, yeah potentially? Trying to balance DGW34 and 37 while also have players for 35 - It didn't work I take it??

It's just impossible to know how to balance it all out without the fixtures.

No no I didn't mean that.. I just wondered whether you were using FT's for this team or if it was a WC.
I personally wouldn't have 3 Pool, but as you said they have good fixtures.

You could have 3 and then perhaps do Robertson to Mustafi / Utd defender and then bring in Vardy for Firmino for the doubles?

Maybe A.King for Cork if you're planning on playing a 4-3-3.

I'd probably wait until the fixtures are released before planning too much though, mate.

          Good luck.

Thinking about keeping all three (also Robertson, Salah, Firmino), and then doing:

      Robertson + Firmino > Smalling/Mustafi + Vardy.

I'm not a big fan of planning transfers though, so this is likely to change once fixtures released.

cork and højbjerg leaves your team unbalanced and possibly in danger of beeing stuck because of their price. defense looks good on paper, but Monreal could be saved for el, smalling is safe while Jones is injured, so monitoring that you shall and even if i don´t think so personally, Robertson could, and i say could, be saved a game or two (most likely the Everton game if so). arsenals fixtures and the way they play might be better invested in midfielder than defender imo, and while Lukaku have a nice dgw he has City in 33, prior to that Swansea which people who have him would be very dependent on, if he is to be a good choice imo. he will score, no doubt but his price tag and your team pr now i would consider changing either with vardy but even with a cheap third striker, and then put some money into your fourth midfielder and possibly rearrange smalling and monreal into bailly and a slightly cheaper option in defense, like Cedric, burnley defender, etc. just some thoughts to chew on

Affects whether you plan your team to TC/BB in 34 or 37, without the fixtures it has a big impact on which DGW players and from which teams you go for ...

17.0 to spend on defence. Which is best:

    A. Smalling, Alonso, 4.4
    B. Smalling, Vertongen, Monreal

The new manager is dullard Mark Hughes. Their defence is still suspect and forward line full of mercenaries unless Austin can get back soon. So I still expect Saints to struggle.

cedric 4.7 could be decent shout as he is an attacking right back in a team that fights to avoid relegation. not the juiciest fixture but dgw 37 could be nice? mccarthy if he stays in goal could be worth a try, midfield is a mine field imo, many gifted players but difficult to predict both starters and points. sparky have only been in charge for one game and that was a fa cup game so also hard to predict how it will affect them.

Toby the one who could be a factor for Son, is it? if they revert to a back three? Kane got an injury that normally takes 4-6 weeks to recover fully from, he might be ready prior to the first game in gw34 but that´s just a stipulation and pr now the sensible choice is to pick Son, but things can change so one never knows. fixtures not the juiciest i admit, but usually theres goal in chelsea-spurs, and stoke away, well it´s not bad. actually if he plays p front, could actually turning out not so good fpl wise, but hvaen´t checked stats from this but vs Swansea there was otherplayers that got on the score sheet. still pondering, so your hmmmm.... just what describes this wildcard time for me-)

Will WC in 34, so would you take a -4 for a 1-week punt?

    £2.4itb

    DDG
    Otamendi Schindler VVD
    Salah Sterling Stanislas Walcott
    Firmino Aubameyang Wilson

    Elliot, Shaqiri, Bavies, Long

    Thinking
    1. Walcott -> £9.5m MID? (Martial / Mkhi / Ozil?)
    2. Wilson -> £8.3m ATT (Rashford ?)

    Here's a 3-5-2 WC team

    DDG

    Alonso Bailly Lowton

    Mahrez Son Salah Arnautovic Willian

    Lukaku Aubameyang

Subs: Hart, Van Der Hoorn, Morgan, Barnes

Reason I've gone Hart is a gamble but at 4.2 for a GK who I think will be West Ham's number 1 who are in desperate need of results I think he's a fantastic enabler and at 4.4 with Van Der Hoorn you get that exposure to Swansea's DF. West Ham also have a DGW more than likely featuring a Home fixture to Watford so if I'm right I think he's a good enabler and allows me to afford Bailly instead of the rotation threat of either Smalling/Jones
