Scout Scribbles – Christensen Scare For Blues

The international break starts with some mixed defensive news for Chelsea, while the in-form Riyad Mahrez helps steers Algeria to victory.

Denmark’s 1-0 win over Panama – one of England’s World Cup opponents – was achieved without Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen.

The versatile defender has returned to Stamford Bridge after missing out last night, with his national manager, Age Hareide, playing down the severity of his injury:

“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue. It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”

Priced at just 5.3 in Fantasy Premier League, interest in Christensen is on the rise as the cheapest route into a defence that is one of just six set to play twice in Gameweek 34, with the Blues travelling to Southampton and Burnley.

Antonio Conte could, however, have David Luiz back in contention for the Gameweek 32 home encounter against Spurs on April 1, with the Brazilian stepping up his recovery from an ongoing knee problem.

Returning to the Denmark match, the usual FPL suspects of Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel started for the Danes, while Huddersfield centre-half Mathias Jorgensen was also handed a rare international appearance and his club colleague, Jonas Lossl, was on the bench.

Eriksen is likely to be in the plans of many an FPL manager as Spurs have an upcoming Double Gameweek 34 involving Man City at home and a trip to Brighton, as well as another double probably taking in a trip to West Brom and a visit from Newcastle.

But any of his 14.5% ownership watching yesterday’s match would have been dismayed to discover the Panamanians in combative mode for what was meant to be a friendly, as Hareide alluded to post-match.

“You play a friendly, especially between two teams that will play in the World Cup, and you take it a little bit more easy – but I think that’s their style and the referee has to decide about that.”

Eriksen survived and was replaced after 64 minutes for purely tactical reasons, while the 4.7% who own Schmeichel were at risk of losing their man to serious injury when he was the victim of a studs-first challenge to the midriff from Blas Pérez that narrowly missed connecting with the Leicester man’s face.

Pérez was sent off, the Danes won and all ended well, with Denmark back in action on Tuesday against Chile.

As for Panama, they’re also playing again that day against Switzerland, so the 12.6% of managers with Xherdan Shaqiri in their squads will no doubt be grateful that their man is missing the international break with a minor calf issue.

Vokes shines as Bale makes hay

Burnley striker Sam Vokes scored one goal and set up two more as Wales cruised to a 6-0 win over China.

His turn was not the star one, however, as a Gareth Bale hat-trick confirmed the Real Madrid man as his country’s all-time record goalscorer.

Then again, Vokes is used to playing second fiddle at club level as well – he’s currently third in the attacking pecking order at Burnley behind in-form duo Ashley Barnes (three goals in as many Gameweeks) and Chris Wood (three in two).

The Clarets’ schedule (wba wat LEI CHE) includes a double in Gameweek 34 that is prompting interest in their assets, yet despite his fine 63-minute performance yesterday, Vokes’ role as a bit-part player under Sean Dyche will ensure we steer clear.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs also handed starts to Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Andy King, with the latter providing an assist.

Spurs full-back Davies (23.2%) and the 2.0%-owned Stoke City man Allen played 70 and 63 minutes respectively, the others the full 90.

All are likely to be back in action for the final of the China Cup on Monday, when they will play the winners of today’s other semi-final between Uruguay and the Czech Republic.

Elsewhere…

Gabon and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is missing his country’s Long’s Cup duties in Bangkok as his grandmother has passed away.

The 8.3%-owned striker has been attracting a lot of FPL interest as the Gunners’ schedule (STK SOT new WHU) includes a fixture in the reduced Gameweek 35 slate and Europa League ineligibility makes him virtually nailed-on for league duty.

On the flip side, the news that Arsenal do not have a double in Gameweek 34 has dampened some of the enthusiasm in their key assets.

Meanwhile, Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez (10.7%) is another in many managers’ Wildcard plans on the back of a good set of fixtures (bha NEW bur SOT) that includes two matches in Gameweek 34.

Indeed, since yesterday’s confirmation of the Double Gameweek 34, he is the fifth most bought player in the last 24 hours.

The winger’s fine domestic form – he has two goals and an assist from his last two Gameweeks – was carried into the international break as he set up two of Algeria’s strikes in a 4-1 friendly win over Tanzania.

Mahrez recovered from a slight muscle issue to play the full 90 minutes yesterday and is expected to be back in action again on Tuesday, away in Iran.

    On WC:

    DDG, Ryan
    Alonso, Bailly, Tarkowski, Cedric, Morgan
    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian, Gudmundsson
    Lukaku, Vardy, Murray

Would you pull the trigger today if this was with £0.0m ITB? (Would be selling Firmino, bought at £9m)

I'm doing that, Makes total sense to me. He'll get more points plus it only takes 1 transfer to make the switch. Gives you another free transfer in case of injury etc.

DGW strategy : thoughts on this WC team:

    Cech De Gea
    Dunk Maguire Smalling Tarwoski Robertson
    Mhik Lingard Mahrez Grob Salah
    Aubam Vardy Barnes

    This gives me:

    GW32:

3 Man U players at home to Swansea (GK, Def, Mid)
2 Arsenal at home to stoke (Fwd, mid)
3 away to Brighton (Def, Mid, Fwd)
2 Liverpool away to CP (Def, Mid)
    Barnes (BUR) away to WBA

    GW33: Lingard to Son

3 Arsenal home to sou (GK, Mid, Fwd)
3 Leicester home to new (Def, Mid, Fwd)
Son vs away to STO (Mid)
2 Liverpool away to EVE (Def, Mid)
2 Brighton Home to huds (Def, Mid)

    GW34 - 10 DGW players BB Active

3 Leicester away and home to BUR and SOU (Def, Mid, Fwd)
2 Man U home and away to wha and BOU (GK, Def)
1 Spurs Home and away to MANC and bha (mid)
2 Brighton away to CP and home to TOT (Def, Mid)
2 Burnley Home to LEI and CHE (Def, Fwd)

    and

2 Liverpool home to bow, (Def, Fwd)
3 away to Newcastle, (GK, Mid, Fwd)

    Gw 35 7 players

3 Arsenal home to why, (GK, Mid, Fwd)
2 Liverpool away to WBA (Def, Mid)
2 Burnely away to Stoke (Def, Fwd)

Plan then would be to bring Kane back.

    Sorry long post...thought?

Rather than doing Lingard to Son in from 32 to 33, just get him in now, and try to save 2 transfers from 34, to 35, to try and get out more than 7 players.

    DDG Ryan
    Vert Smalling Tarko Morgan Lowton
    Salah Son Mahrez Willian Groß
    Auba Vardy Barnes

    2.1m itb

    Auba ➡️ Kaku in GW34
    BB34 (14 DGW + Salah)
    FH35
    Kaku ➡️ Kane in GW36
    TC37 Kane

Only risk I see is Smalling and keeping a spare FT to replace him in 34 if needed.

Not going for Cheslea def cover as I cannot afford Azpi/Alonso and don’t think Christensen is worth it prefer Vertonghen long term over him.

Pedro has been terrible this whole season. Conte doesn't like changing his team around a lot, so I think it's safe to say that Willian's consistent starts lately means he's as nailed on as a non-Kanté and -Hazard player can be at Chelsea.

      Spot on.

Willian,Christensen and Smalling are poor picks that I keep seeing in all the WC teams.

Sure, but if you see the matches, he's their biggest threat.
I went to Camp Nou last week and Willian was threatening throughout, despite being up against Barcas best back. Hazard on the other hand was pretty much neutralized by the weaker back. Conte would be mad to drop Willian on current form.

    Alonso Vert Stephens Lowton Morgan
    Mahrez Son Salah Willian Gudmundsson
    Lukaku Firmino Murray

The plan is to BB 34, FT 35 and TC 37.

Would losing Salah in GW 36 WC for Hazard be madness? Would get him back with 2 FTs in 38 again.

    Salah - STO,che
    Hazard - swa,LIV,HUD

Keep him for Stoke and make the swap in 37? He will probably be the most captained player in GW36.

        Also an option.

Would then mean a hit to get him back in 38.

        Tough one.

    Hennessy

    Robertson Tarkowski Prodl

    Salah Willian Sterling Son

Subs - Coleman Arnautovic Tomkins Mariappa

the idea is to spend as less as possible on defence

Is Dummett nailed for Newcastle? Who’s a threat to his place?

I think it's his to lose ,local lad, back from injury. I have bought him on my WC. For £4.2m, what's not to like? 2 points every week 🙂

Guys, really would like to see what you think the optimum team would look like for GW37.

It'll help me understand how far away I will be, because of WCing now.

    Thanks

it's impossible to predict. Mainly becauce of at this stage, Chelsea and City might have nothing at stake.

So best bets probably are spurs and Lei assets

      Ederson - DDG
      Bailly - Alderweireld - VDH - Fernandez - Simpson
      Hazard - Mahrez - Son - Sterling - Mkhitaryan
      Kane - Austin - Ayew

      BOOM!

Just need Austin to become nailed.

Lukaku and Auba could of course have a say in this.

GW 32 WCers will be far far off from this. 😉

    NO FH, BB in 34.
    DDG Ryan
    Mustafi Robertson Smalling Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez son Willian Gudmundson
    Murray Auba Lukaku

Balanced good enough? 11 DGW with BB in 34. 9 players in 35 (1 hit)

People on WC this week - has everyone forgotten that there are two weeks of fixtures before the DGW? I'm watching form AND fixtures (Aubameyang) discarded right, left and centre to make sure managers can get three BHS and Burnley players in??

Too true. I feel like I'm screaming into a void when I suggest having a balanced squad rather than one laden with DGW players (without great fixtures, even Leicester not great for a team that don't really score many - 1.5 a game on average).

Everyone forgotten Gabbiadini last season and Andy Carroll the season before???

IMO the best way to look at it is to see DGWs as a bonus. If The players you want have them, great. If not, don't get in a weaker alternative becuase they have two games

Rather have Auba at Newcastle than Vardy twice (providing Auba keeps doing what he has since I brought him in two GWs ago)

Getting myself confused. If I save transfer in 33, use 1 in 34, free hit in 35, I will still have 2 free transfers for 36 won't I?

No - FH burns any FTs you had so you will only have one in the week after you use it

I'm glad that I wildcarded in GW25 to be honest as it actually makes it really interesting and fun for me now. All the RMWCTs are so so similar even both before and after the fixtures were announced.
BB seems such an overrated chip anyway. Getting the likes of double BRI on your bench for 34 for example is kind of clutching at straws (to be kind). BUR have two home games but I can see both LEI & CHE score in those and the likes of Barnes will do very well to nick anything in those games imo!
Just call me the scrooge of wildcard's present 😉

I still have my WC, and plan to use it in GW34. But I will still have half a squad with only a single game. Not chasing players I don't want in my squad just because they play twice!
