The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

The Members Tables

Prolific wing backs are the focus of Stoke Me A Clipper’s latest table, while vkux has been delving into the underlying statistics of forwards and midfielders priced under 9.0.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Mahrez, Son, Cook, Salah, Willian
    Vardy, Murray, Lukaku.

All DGWs apart from Salah, so BB 34 (with 2 FTs if needed), FH 35 and TC 37?

Cook as 4.3 and a complete enabler but will play I think.

Think Smalling nailed for now. Could downgrade but like the look of United's fixtures and Mou seems to like him. May change when Jones is back I know but may well get crocked again.

Building a WC team now for a BB in GW37 is so difficult. With the likes of Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Spurs, Chelsea all having good double fixtures, how can you fit them all in? Especially for me as my TV is 102.4. Can anyone show me a strong side that covers all those teams?

    1. StoichkovFPL
      • 8 Years

also rotations and some teams may have nothing to play for. risky

I really like this idea - there is some risk of course, but the players I'm looking have pretty good fixtures/rotation. it's not just about the Dgws.

      My current draft is:

      DDG, Fabianski
      Alonso, Mustafi, Dummett, Tomkins, Fernandez
      Salah, Mahrez, Son, Sterling, Kenedy
      Aubameyang, Firmino, Austin

Sterling can fund Auba to Kane in 36. Not sure we'll need City players in 37.

      FH34.

I've tried and don't think you can. Have switched strategy to boost with 13 doubles, Salah and Auba in 34 and then get a very strong 11 out to triple in 37

      1. QuintonFortune25
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 6 days ago

Yes this is my plan. I think by then I will also get some dirt cheap enablers and just focus on a really strong 11

    5. FPL Virgin

The biggest problem is that there are 6 teams with a double in 37 with no double in 34. I just don't know how you cover both with a GW32 Wildcard.

You don't need to. How many of the six teams will have anything to play for and be selecting consistent XI's one match from the end of the season? We can't know, but it could be very few.

If City and Arsenal progress in Europe, you can count them out. If Swans, Hudd or Newcastle are either safe or down you can count them out too.

This is why it's easier to get eleven out in GW37 rather than try to get 15 with the BB.

        1. QuintonFortune25
          • 7 Years

Are you BB in GW34 and TC in GW37 Mark?

Yeah, I'll stick to the plan I think. I'm quite happy with what I can do with the BB in 34. To be honest, I don't think it's going to be that powerful in either 34 or 37. I think the Free Hit in 35 will be more of a decisive GW for me.

Agree with much of the above. At the minute I'm going:

      De Gea - Ryan
      Alonso - Mustafi - Morgan - Lowton - Fernandez
      Salah - Son - Willian - Mkhi - Mahrez
      Auba - Vardy - Barnes

With a Mkhi and Auba switch to Gudmundssen and Kaku. Kane in for Kaku after my FH35, and then one free transfer for 37 with Mustafi and Fernandez already there. Both have a decent fixture for BB in 34 anyway.

Has there ever been an occasion when a GW1 template or a WC template on here has actually completely nailed it? Or do we all tend to convince each other regarding who's best, then have a collective mass panic when a template choice (like Willian this time round) doesn't start the next two games.

You thinking Ibe? Matic nailed for 5 points and maybe a goal/assist on top with his form

Isn't Ibe more exciting to own? 2 games and he's actually an attacking player..

I cannot afford Morgan just for 0.1

Is this Chilwell nailed for gw34 both games?

Could play both and get better returns than Morgan, but Morgan is guaranteed.. Chilwell even he admitted that he doesnt know if he starts or not with Fuchs fit..

    No wildcard.
Want to ditch as many of shaq, Walcott, Adrian, Wilson(maybe) and zaha for a bench boost in 34.
Looking at son, hazard, gudmunsson, gross as main replacements...
Who should I prioritise getting rid of and getting in?
    Thanks all

first check how many players do you have with: DGW34 and BGW 35. Than pick a plan:
      1. More DGW34 players - load up more and use FH GW 35
      2. More BGW35 players - load up more and use FH GW34
also if nr 2 scenario - use BB during siblge GW or DGW 37

Anyone else wildcarding and unable to decide between building a nice team for gwks 32 33, or building it mainly for dgw34?
My current plan to have the team as I want it for each of those gwks will need me to take 5 hits in total until gw34!

Trying to look at all games and balancing but obviously looking at maximising 34

Building it mainly for 34 with a slight eye on 32/33

Potential downfalls on this. Looking at 37 (not guaranteed the fixtures will be 37) but if I plan for them ant rouge fixtures in 35 or 36 can be covered also?

    De Gea Ryan
    Alonso Vertogen Lowton Morgan Dummett
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Young
    Lukaku Aubameyang Barnes

    Auby to Vardy 34
    Lukuku Kane 36/37
Covers 37 with transfers available to stock up
    14 players for BB 34

Is it really worth paying 0.9m extra for Gudmondsson over King when he could well only play in GW34? I think the money could be better used elsewhere myself

What’s your team and what are you using the £0.9M for?

    2. UshFPL

      DDG Ryan
      Alonso Bailly Morgan Lowton Duffy
      Salah Mahrez Son Willian King
      Auba Lukaku Murray

I trust Murray to start as my 3rd striker and the 0.9m is used to get Lukaku, who is key to my plan for getting Kane in

Im thinking about getting cheap 5th mid (King/Cork) as a nice option to have strong 14 players. diference between Gudm and King may be 2 pts

Like it! Very strong and good use of the free transfers, most are ignoring these as if it’s DGW32

Chronic lack of Spurs defensive selections in these WC's
They have most clean sheets so far this year & double double

I think you will find Spurs defenders in far more GW33 WC teams, than GW32. After the Chelsea game next GW their fixtures don't look bad to me with GW36 and DGW37 look particularly strong.

I'm planning Aubu and a cheap defender (I haven't finalised which yet) to Vardy and Vert for GW34 onwards.
