We end a marathon day of football at Wembley Stadium which provides a fitting finale as Tottenham Hotspur host champions elect Manchester City.

But it’s not Pep Guardiola’s City that hold the interest for Fantasy managers, as Harry Kane goes into tonight’s contest as the most signed player ahead for Gameweek 34 (255,000+) and wearing just over a million armbands.

Kane’s recent output has been hampered by injury, though having been awarded a controversial goal at Stoke City in Gameweek 33, he still boasts attacking returns in five of his previous starts.

Christian Eriksen has also proved a big draw ahead of this encounter, claiming 158,000 new owners before today’s deadline to edge ahead in the popularity pecking order in the Spurs midfield.

Son Heung-min may just have slipped down that ladder – he is benched today as Erik Lamela gets the nod. The South Korean will therefore likely start the away fixture with Brighton on Tuesday, though only three of his 12 goals this season have come on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Here’s a stumper for you. If Kane’s ‘goal’ (which was later given as a goal) was at the start of a double gameweek like this one, and was awarded on the Thursday, then FPL would award him the goal, right? Because the gameweek is still in play.

      FPL 'Assists' aren't a true measure of assistance. But that's okay, because we don't want a man in the stands making subjective calls about what qualifies as assistance and what doesn't. There's always a payoff when playing a game based on objective measures. But it's better than the alternative.

        I don't disagree with you. I'd prefer less assists and just rely on Opta's definition. More assists through Fantasy Assists cause the confusion and lead to complex rules.

          What I’d really like is to give assists to penalty scorers, if they also won the penalty. That to me makes no sense, how you can win a penalty and be given an assist, but only if you don’t take the penalty that you’ve won.

            I agree with this, but you would have to give them a different name to 'assists' in that case. That's already where people get confused and angry, because it's more about the touch before the final touch than it is about assistance

          Fair. I like more points opportunities though. Increased excitement, and the best players to choose becomes less obvious because more people are involved in goals. Perhaps an extra points allocation for assist to the assist (1pt) would be agreeable, then follow opta definition for assists.

          I guess assists like that are here to give credit to players for doing good work and makes the game more competitive for people. Similar to the same way wildcards are added, or chips. It gives people a chance of catching a lead so no one can just copy your team and keep that lead. It makes it a bit more interesting

          If there was less points to go around the game would end up being so boring and flat such as draft. And I'm glad it's the way it is. Even if it works your way or not
