The Big Numbers – Gameweek 35

Next, we take a look back at the post-match data in our usual members’ analysis of the previous Gameweek.

We skew our analysis towards Double Gameweek 37 assets, as Man City, Arsenal and West Ham’s attacks all feature. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s form at both ends of the pitch is also assessed prior to their favourable weekend fixture and double-header.

As a united fan who can’t bear the thought of pool winning ucl, who has the best chance of even competing with them? Madrid or Bayern?

Apart from city, such an easy road to finals

Both, I think would beat them in a final. I'd go Madrid because of recent experience in finals and Ronaldo.

Madrid will be a very tough team to beat for Pool. Ronaldo is too good for that Pool defence.

A Liverpool vs. Real final would be awesome - two attacking sides and the battle between Mo and Ronaldo would be great to watch.

I don’t think it matters, I genuinly think pool will blow both those teams away.

The big attacking teams just play into Klopps style of pressing.

If you're looking for the easiest route, then look no further than Man Utd's Europa league win.

      Anderlecht, Celta Vigo, Ajax's u21's.

Pool winning the CL increases the UK's coefficient rankings so it's good for all EPL teams.

It's perfectly true though. Try and romanticise it all you want, but that's a really poor list of opponents considering it's the Champions League.

You can't just say 'apart from ...' Roma knocked Barcelona out of the CL and they've got a team that would probably take United over 2 legs too. Beating City over 2 legs is impressive and you can't just suddenly put that aside.

Also we've beaten everyone that's been put in front of us so far and haven't lost a game in the CL.

Having rocked up and played the way we have for a team not consistently in Europe is a frickin amazing achievement in itself so when people try to downplay the achievement through 'easy run in blah blah' at the end of the day we can't pick our opponents and have to beat whoever we're up against which we have.

Upsets happen from time to time, Roma was one of them. Truth is they are nowhere near the quality of a team you would expect to face in a Champions League semi final. After all Roma are almost 20 points behind both Juventus and Napoli in the Serie A, and only a single point above 5th place which would mean no Champions League for them next season.

Beating City is a great achievement indeed, but that's the only top team Liverpool have had to face to reach the final, hence the "apart from" – as you would normally expect them having to knock out the big European teams to reach the final.

Of course you can only beat the teams you are put up against, but it still makes their Champions League success much less impressive than what it would otherwise be.

Bayern have faced Besiktas and Sevilla so far... They're now facing Madrid in the Semis? Your point is?

Roma faced Shaktar before Barca (When we faced City), your point is?

Out of the the semi finalists only Real Madrid have arguably had a tougher route..

So if anyone other then Madrid wins it it's 'not impressive'?

              Your point is..

If Salah is confirmed out this week by AE (and given I plan to bin him next week for either Hazard/Alli):

    A) Play JAyew
    B) Hazard (-4)
    C) Alli (-4)

    ___________________________________________________________
If you are wondering why Hazard and Alli - I am trying to claw back a 79 point deficit on my ML leader (unlikely I know) so am aiming for the ultimate differentials. He already owns Son and Eriksen. And, I already have triple city (Dsilva, Sane, Jesus)

over the next 2 i'm thinking of Lukaku, Willian and Mahrez to Sterling, Jesus and Eriksen

Seem sensible or is it daft getting rid of 3 DGW players for 3 different ones

i had a similar decision to make, for me as I plan to play my bench boost chip i opted to swap out non dgw players rather than replace existing. That said the three you want to bring in look likely to outscore those they replace it depends on your DGW coverage and if you have any chips left....

Pool could have just parked the bus when they were 5-0 up, should have gotten rid of salah for and extra mid or def, seems like they do not like doing things the easy way out. I'm stll sure they'll qualify by the way.

    1. Karan14
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 2 days ago

They don’t know how to park the bus. Attack is the best form of defence for them. Have conceded 4 goals in last 2 matches after Salah has been subbed off which back that.

    2. liiusions

Easy to say that now I think. Roma were on the ropes I personally think we should have kept Salah on and gone for more goals. But of course there’s the needless risk of him picking up a knock which is why he came off

    3. goriuanx
      • 13 Years
      6 years, 2 days ago

I'm cool with taking Salah off and preventing an injury, but I didn't understand why Ings came on. Should have just been Moreno playing left wing, with Mane on the right. We need to improve our in-game approach, as last night should have really been the end of the tie but wasn't.

    4. The Left Duke #3
      • 9 Years

No problem taking Salah off.....I mean we were 5 up, every manager in the world would do the same to protect their best assets.

There's no accounting for Lovren's missed header though no matter who was on the pitch. What a useless DF he is

    5. Sedemuda

Keeping Salah on the pitch isn't just about scoring more goals, it upsets the balance of the team (no Fimino & Salah, no outlet). Liverpool do not have a strong enough squad to make changes in important games.
As a Pool fan we're punching above our weight at the moment & doing well above my expectations.
VVD has made a great difference but they need someone alongside him & a WC keeper to compete at the top consistently.

      1. Team Bobcat
        • 7 Years

Keeping salah on the pitch also risks injury abd with a league match the weekend alomg with a 2nd leg in this i saw little disadvantage withdrawing him. Would have liked if firmino had been given withdrawn also. The sale of solenko in january was a terrible move. Imposdible now to withdraw salah firmino mane without seriously weakening the team. A giroud or the like would be welcomed in Liverpool. A player that allows them to change style and defend when needed.

I dont think salah being subed had much to do with it. Liverpool appeared to drop the tempo a little just brfore salah was subed off. That was disguised a little by the fact they scored their 5th shortly after.

Problem was when liverpool drops their tempo and take a breather they need the attacking players to shore up shop also. When the tempo dropped liverpool needed to empty the bench to accomodate this. Problem may be the lack of fit quality subs.

GK/DF is set up for this GW as follows:

    DDG (Ryan)
    Smalling Long Lowton (Morgan Alonso*)

    So basically 2 MU & 2 Burnley. Should I

    A) bring someone in for Alonso (price obviously no issue)
    or
    B) Roll FT for DGW as Alonso will be back next week

    No other pressing matters

    Ederson
Lowton - Schindler - Vertonghen - (Hunmeier, Mbemba)
    Willian - Lingard - Salah - Sterling - (Carroll)
    Aubameyang - Kane - Jesus

    A) Vert to someone else?
    B) Downgrade Jesus and get Hazard in for Carroll
    C) Other suggestions?

I thought this would be the general reaction. How about looking at it like this:
With FT, will Masuaku match Alonso? Probably not.
Will Jesus score at least 4pts over Lukaku? - Yes
Will Sterling score at least 4pts over Mahrez? - Yes
Will D.Silva score at least 4pts over Willian? - Yes

Individually the hits make sense to me, bunched together for a -12pts seems crazy tho. As I'm 2nd and 49 points behind 1st, I'm going to take the risk and go for it.

I’m planning to roll my FT this week to do a mini WC in prep for BB in DG37.
    Is this -8 too much?

    Lossl > Fabianski
    VVD > Naughton
    Ibe > Arnautovic
    J.King > J.Ayew

Gives me this team for GW37

    DDG
    Alonso, Christensen, Naughton
    Alli, Son, Arnautovic, Willian, Mahrez
    Kane(v), Vardy

    BB: Fabianski, J.Ayew, Bauer, Dummett

      Should be Kane(c) and Vardy(v)
