Brazil assets pass Fantasy auditions with flying colours

Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho all made compelling cases for inclusion in World Cup Fantasy squads on Sunday.

They grabbed the goals in the Selecao’s final warm-up game ahead of this summer’s finals.

We’ve got everything you need to know about the match.

AUSTRIA 0-3 BRAZIL

Brazil rounded off their World Cup warm-up campaign in some style as they waltzed to a 3-0 victory in Austria.

In the 38th minute Gabriel Jesus scored the opening goal, pouncing on the rebound from Marcelo’s blocked shot from range.

Neymar, making his first start since February, doubled the Selecao’s lead in the second-half after some typically impressive skilful play.

The Paris Saint Germain forward has now scored in his last two Brazil matches following his return from injury.

Philippe Coutinho added the third and final goal of the meeting, assisted by substitute Roberto Firmino.

The only personnel change to Brazil’s starting XI from the side that beat Croatia earlier this month was Neymar’s return in the left-forward position of a 4-3-3.

He replaced Fernandinho, who is not expected to be starting player in Brazil. Paulinho dropped deeper than the right-forward role he has fulfilled of late to sit in the midfield three, as did Coutinho.

That allowed Willian to play in a more advanced role, resulting in his assist for Neymar’s goal.

The defence of Marcelo, Joao Miranda, Thiago Silva and relatively budget-option Danilo remained unchanged.

Brazil XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Marcelo (Filipe Luis 67’), Joao Miranda, Thiago Silva (Marquinhos 60’), Danilo; Coutinho (Taison 76’), Casemiro (Fernandinho 61’), Paulinho; Neymar (Douglas Costa 84’), Gabriel Jesus (Roberto Firmino 67’), Willian.

      Not bad.

Akinfeev is a brave choice. Could work.

Bench is OK but get a cheapie who plays earlier in the groups so you can sub out if they don't perform instead of NDiaye who plays on the last day. Likewise Sanchez.

    RMT Please! (Fifa WC McDonalds)

    Muslera
    Hakimi - Dalsgaard - Miranda - Meunier
    Isco - Coutinho - Mueller
    Neymar - Iwobi - Messi

    Subs: Uzoho, C.Sanchez, Hamed, Idowu

I know Meunier may not be worth 6.0 as a Belgium defender, but he is so so attacking, would love to have him in my team.

Any opinion OR Other hidden gems recommendations appreciated!!!

I'm seeing a lot of similar squads on here, so hows this for something completely different ? It relies on at least one of the two tightest defences in qualifying (Iran and Morocco) keeping a clean sheet on Friday.

    Beiranvand
    Pouraliganji, Mohammadi, Hakimi, Mendyl, Saiss
    Muller, James
    Messi, Neymar, Griezmann

    Uzoho, Cueva, Lo Celso, C.Sanchez

If I take this punty approach I'm thinking Max Captain R1, followed by R2 WC.

Very interesting strategy. I actually really like this!

Massive gamble, but you've looked at the stats behind it, you've got Messi and Neymar with max captain. Could be worth the risk to make the game more fun!

Obviously the key is the third match of the WC, if it's doesn't end with a CS I could just sit back and enjoy the WC. However if it finished 0-0 i'd be high in the OR with all that front 7 still to play.

Mojica is a 4.5 defender. He plays for Colombia and is nailed due to an unfortunate world cup ending injury to the first choice LB (or is it RB... I forgot)

A great choice given Colombia's fixtures and that they're favourites for their group. Bargain at 4.5

        Thanks Dan.

Brought Honda in just to get a third option from the last day of matches. And he's on set pieces and pens. Just can't seem to find any good 5.5 options in midfield (which would allow me to do Akinfeev > Muslera).

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

As the World Cup Fantasy game has now been open for a few days, and with the first games fast approaching, how is your team shaping up?

Are there any players who haven’t left your side? Importantly, who are the heavy hitters you are looking at?

Often through the FPL season a template forms, only to be replaced later by a different template. This also often happens in the lead-up to the FPL season as the community starts to understand the options available.

Do you think this is happening with the World Cup game? Do you notice a template forming, and what is it?

Do you notice areas of your team that are significantly different from others on site?

Another interesting question - what level of captaincy score would you feel like sticking with?

for example, you have a Russia defender day 1 and they keep a clean sheet, worth banking the extra points or rolling the dice?

2 goals and I'm definitely sticking. 1 goal and 1 assist or 1 clean sheet and 1 assist and I'll see who I've got left to cap and base my decision on that

Russia defender clean sheet? Definitely sticking. Anything 6 or above and I'm banking the points. Not worth the hassle unless it's a fail. Since there are no bonus points, 6 won't be as far below the potential highest score as in FPL.

        Great question.

Depends.. I think 6 is right on the edge. It depends on who is left to play I think.

Though to win it all I think taking a more risky strategy is probably best

Early templates look quite a lot like 5-2-3 being the strongest playing XI, with the chance of a cheap midfielder picking up some points and then not being subbed out. Definitely down to the scarcity of good value mids. Isco - Coutinho - James seem to be the main 3 with most choosing 2 of those.

I think I’m pretty settled on Lukaku, Jesus, Mbappe, JRod and Müller as my big hitters. Isco might become Coutinho though.

Strong looking defence of Mendy, Kimmich and Meunière, though again the Brazilians are tempting me and I might go Danilo!

My bench is all fodder with players who should play but likely won’t do much so I’m largely reliant on the first 11 but I’m good with that.

Currently on 15 players who all have a hope of getting attacking/ defensive points. James, Lukaku and Meunier the only mainstays in my team throughout, but my team now hasn’t changed for 24 hours for the first time since release!

I get the 15 man strong/equal squad tactic but it simply makes your team weak.
Also imagine spend 1-1.5 mil more for a mid who will blank so than you will change swap him for most probably other 5.5-6.0 mil player when most other managers with diferent tactic will swap his 4.5 blanker for 9.0 big hitter.

Well currently I have 3 big hitting forwards (Werner, Cavani, Lukaku) as well as 2 midfielders who are key to their team's play and have some nice games (Eriksen and James). My budget options are another mid who has a nice game and is central to his team's play (Ziyach), as well as Carrasco, who has a decent attacking record at international level and plays two defensively poor sides in his first two matches, in a very attacking team. Also got Al-Dawsari as a little indulgence, nearly scored against Germany and could well produce against Russia. In defence, I have double Uruguay (Godin and Varela), Meunier, Danilo and Sabaly, as a 4m enabler who is likely to start and plays Japan gw2 in a defensive side. I don't see too many weaknesses there, instead it gives me 15 options instead of 11, all of whom provide legitimate cover, alongside 5 strong captaincy options.

            Hey Frog,

What makes you prefer Carrasco and Sabaly over, say, Cueva and Dalsgaard.

I'm currently on the second of those two options, but haven't really considered Sabaly. Do you think he'll be a good choice?

My problem with Cueva and Dalsgaard is that in gw1 they cancel each other out - only 1 can realistically get points. I’m wavering on Carrasco to Ljajic, and I’ll see whether Sabaly starts tonight before I confirm his spot in my team.

OK thanks for the reply. Looking at the Serbia article on this site, Ljajic didn't seem to be involved in Serbia's goals... I'd probably stick to Carrasco.

Also, given the price I'm paying, I'd probably be quite happy if just one of Dalsgaard/Cueva got some points

Nice team. I see where you're coming from with the strong bench but I just feel I'd rather have Isco with a 4.5 on the bench than rotate a couple of mid priced midfielders

Except with FPL rotation you have 2 lottery tickets and can only play one of them. In FWC "rotation", you have 2 lottery tickets and can play the second one if the first one doesn't come through. Intuitively to me, this seems like a much bigger advantage than you're making out, though I haven't done/won't do any maths to back it up. This is what FFFrog is trying to exploit.

Though of course you have to apply the philosophy cautiously as there is no rule that suggests 2 mid-price tickets are better than a cheap and pricey ticket, even if you get to play the second ticket when the first doesn't come through, which is what I guess you're wary of.

My intuition (again!?) tells me that the balance tends towards mid-mid price in general, but pulls the other way when a cheap player can be played first and replaced by the expensive player. Not sure if this can be backed-up either, though 😆

Lots of people going heavy in attack but, I'm on Lukaku Mitro Carrillo with heavy mid.

Kimmich & Meunier were the first players in and still survived, just swapped Marcelo > Danilo for the 1ml.

      Uzoho essential 😆

Griezmann seems to be the only one that has stayed in my drafts - and I'm playing 4 formats!

      Lukaku nailed up front.

Eriksen, James and Müller nailed on in midfield.

Meunier, Trippier, Mendy and Danilo nailed on in defence.

Uzoho nailed on as second GK.

Fairly settled on De Arrascaeta and Meza as cheap punts.

Leaves one spot to fill in each part of the team.

Seeing a lot of teams with strong defences and weak cheap midfielders.
Personally I'd argue that the likes of Mojica and Varela are much better options than, say, Sanchez(COL) and Ndiaye.

The players who haven't left my squad so far are Werner, Lukaku, Isco, Meunier, Danilo, Varela.

I think a big 3 up top is pretty template now, and for good reason. There are so many good options up front around the 9.0-10.0 mark. Personally on Lukaku + Werner + Cavani, but the likes of Lewandowski, Jesus, Falcao, Griezmann etc. all look massively appealing as well.

If you've been following the site for the last couple of days, you're probably fed up of me rambling on about benches, but I'm seeing a huge amount of RMTs not taking into account the daily subbing system and getting in players with 2-point ceilings. I think a good 15-man team is essential!

Mojica and Varela are better but the 6.0 defenders are also better than the 6.0 mids. Also, take into account that Varela is 0.5 above base price while Sanchez is at base price

      Muslera - Ozoho
      Trippier - Danilo - Meunier - Kimmich - Varela
Carrasco - Eriksen - Lo Celso - Aldawsari - James
      Lukaku - Werner - Griezzmann

What do you think of my team? I would like to add Ziyach from Morocco but I don't think it would be worth it to sacrifice any of my mid players.
Can you think of any replace or something that would smooth my team even more?

      And some extra info:
How are your thoughts in using the WC and BB? I'm pointing for a WC in GW1 or GW3 and BB on GW1.

      Good luck everyone

Attacking options are only worth in Rebic (guaranteed starting spot, good price, plays winger) and Perisic (regularly excels for croatia at tournaments), and in defence probably subasic or lovren, nothing else much

Feeling good about this team now but would appreciate some thoughts...

    Muslera / Uzoho

    Kimmich / Meunier / Godin / Hegazi / Advincula

    J Rod / Eriksen / Coutinho / Cueva / Belhanda

Lukaku / Werner / De Arrascaeta
