World Cup dark horses Croatia take on Denmark in Nizhny Novgorod in this evening’s last-16 tie, a match which features the player who has been bought by more Fantasy managers than anyone else since the group stage ended.

Luka Modric (£9.1m) was purchased by more than 400,000 McDonald’s FIFA managers ahead of Saturday afternoon’s deadline and is now owned by 36.2% of Fantasy bosses.

The Real Madrid midfielder has two goals to his name already and is on spot-kick and corner-taking duties for his country. Modric has also created six chances for his team-mates and fired in 12 crosses in his three appearances to date.

Dejan Lovren‘s (£5.1m) ownership has crept past the 20% mark, while goalkeeper Daniel Subasic (£5.6m), who kept clean sheets in both of his group stage appearances, is in 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA squads.

No Denmark player has a double-digit ownership, meanwhile. Kasper Schmeichel (£5.1m), who also registered two shut-outs in the group stage and delivered save points in all three of his appearances in this tournament, is the Danes’ most popular player from a Fantasy perspective: 9.8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers own the Leicester City goalkeeper.

With a goal and an assist to his name already, Christian Eriksen (£9.1m) finds himself in 8.2% of Fantasy squads. No Denmark player has had more shots on goal at this year’s World Cup than the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder (nine).

Budget defender Jonas Knudsen (£4.0m), owned by 2.8% of Fantasy managers, is a surprise inclusion in Denmark’s starting XI.

Russia’s victory over Spain in this afternoon’s last-16 tie is significant to this match, too: whoever triumphs this evening will take on the host nation in the quarter-finals next Saturday night.

Croatia XI (4-2-3-1): Subasic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Lovren, Strinic; Brozovic, Rakitic; Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Mandzukic

Denmark XI (5-4-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Zanka, Kjaer, Christensen, Knudsen; Delaney, Eriksen, Braithwaite, Poulsen; Cornelius

Screw me. The whole reason I got Subasic was because I hoped he would save an Eriksen pen. This was not what I had in mind.

Every shot the goal gets smaller and Kasper gets bigger. This is a psychological warfare.

Love the hypocrisy of Kaspar. He moves illegally early every time and then moans about the taker stopping.

      1. DJDave1979

It's the moaning, rather than the moving I'm more bothered about.

And I agree in principal but the same could be Said about 99% of the outfield players.

Not much to ’moan’ about.... it’s part of the mental game
