Community Round-up: World Cup Fantasy and FPL divide attention

As was the case last week, the Fantasy Football Scout Community’s attention has been split roughly down the middle with Fantasy World Cup approaching its climax and the launch of Fantasy Premier League 2018/19 provoking debate.

Rainer and the exquisitely named Ohhh Shola Ameobi helped bridge the two games with a look at the Premier League teams most affected by the ongoing tournament and when the players involved in the 2014 World Cup returned to domestic action.

We’ve got a round-up of the week’s hot topics, and the usual array of Community tables and competitions, in our regular article below.

The Hottest Topics

This time last week, we were midway through the World Cup quarter-finals and Legomane asked whether sticking or twisting was the best option regarding Fantasy World Cup captaincy.

G-Whizz returned with his regular clean sheet odds hot topic ahead of the semi-finals, while rainy mused on the anticlimax that was the yellow card count.

Rainer, meanwhile, helpfully pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea could be badly hit by their players returning late from international duty.

Before the semi-finals commenced, our Community discussed their transfers, captains and chips. With England and Belgium set to contest the third-place play-off later today, Siva Mohan looked at the rotation between the semi-finals and the fairly meaningless “bronze medal” match in the 2014 World Cup.

Legomane returned with a stick-or-twist semi-final special, as did G-Whizz with his last look at the clean sheet odds of this World Cup.

Ohhh Shola Ameobi examined the precedent of when the Premier League players involved in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup returned to their respective clubs.

World Cup ongoing or not, there’s no escaping the buzz around the FFS Community regarding the FPL launch.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus asked if other managers adopted a player-orientated or structure-based approach to their Gameweek 1 squads, while Giggs Boson looked at the merits of both goalkeeper rotation and one Charlie Daniels.

Holding Matip held court while discussing five at the back and value according to position, while HamezMace floated the idea of a very early wildcard.

Rich2086 and Prøfeßor Bear gave a rundown of the Wolves side and warned us not to write off their assets, before CloudSky looked at some of the eye-catching fixture runs in the first quarter of the season.

Eden Wizard, meanwhile, suggested that Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero could well play together at the start of the season.

Norman Conquest rounded up the latest additions to the FPL game and their respective prices.

Our “members only” hot topics concentrated on the Rate My Team launch and, using this tool, what the best team over the first six Gameweeks would be.

The Eliteserien summer break was also a source of discussion, with Dupuytrens looking ahead to the transfer window and European Under-19 Championship.

Community Tables

Our members have been hard at work this week, creating no fewer than 13 public stats tables. FPL Virgin, in particular, has been beavering away, creating nine of those tables including the best defence of last season and the talisman theory.

Wainright looked at defenders who made the most penalty box touches, while easilythebest listed the players who had the most “big chances” last season.

Hotdogs-for-tea, meanwhile, rounded up the defenders who created the most chances and were the most attacking in 2017/18.

Community Tournaments

Ahead of the third-place play-off and final, competition in the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league for the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game is hotting up. The current top of the league reads as follows:

1. Sladuna (385 points)
2. Lincon316 (363 points)
3. Ludaslol (362 points)
4. SmokinBadger (361 points)
5=. Matt5138008 (358 points)
5=. McGettigan16 (358 points)

Our Mods and Cons league, meanwhile, shaped up like this:

1. ZidanRamos (336 points)
2. GSumner (323 points)
3. JohannesN (309 points)
4. Jackpenn (300 points)
5. Matzi11a (296 points)

The latest update for Frøgball, which uses combined Fantasy scores to represent different nations, is here.

If you are running a community tournament or are thinking about starting one, and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet, or head to head competition at geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Anyone know the starting lineups for today? Last week for WCFF. Hoping to secure a top 200 spot.

They'll be out soon, though I personally wouldn't be bothered about rank. Unless you win a prize it means nothing and history isn't saved.

Feel like I’m getting closer to the team I’d like for Gameweek 1. I’m aware the midfield is a bit suspect but if both Willian and Mkhitaryan play they could provide excellent value. Thoughts on this team?...would mean a lot.

    Ederson Foster
    Azpilicueta Smalling Mee Cedric Peltier
    Salah Willian Mkhitaryan Cairney McArthur
    Aguero Firmino Austin

    1. TheDonald

Yeah I like it. And if no Willian, then there’ll probably be an alternative, attacking, cheap Chelsea midfielder who starts instead.

      Pedro 6.5
      Fabregas 6.5
      Loftus Cheek 5.5

Like I've said in an earlier post. It can be up to 2 month before a player regains full fitness after a 2 or 3 week layoff. He will have little restrictions on his diet I guess . Look at Mkhy last year. He looked preggers

He clocks off from work after the final. No point training all week if you're already officially on holiday. If he were on holiday, he'd be on holiday, not sitting on the bench.

Anyway, he's in the starting XI

In a normal season then more games will take it's toll yes but with a 3 week rest . They will be recovered from all the minutes they played no matter if it's 300 or 600. Your body will not stay in tip top shape without training daily. It's efficient but not that efficient . They will all be reset after 3 weeks but it will have to be a slow build up back to the enhanced physical state they need to be in

      I've tried that.

Issue is if you're going with Salah permacap you need the rest of your team to be heavily focused on value, and having both of those two really affects the value you can get in other positions.

If you don't have Salah then I would recommend it, but otherwise, though it's extremely tempting, I don't think it's better

What would happen in FPL if a team made 3 subs, but one of their players got injured and had to leave the pitch?
Would his "minutes played" continue running?

I'm guessing that it would since he was never subbed off (or sent off) so he's still technically playing.

For best player, maybe. For best FPL pick absolutely not. He won't get the minutes or goals needed for 5.5

I quite like this 4-4-2, but it's very dependant on Sanchez actually being good this season and the subs are abysmal. Should I just press reset?

      Ederson
      Robertson - Bailly - Coleman - Cedric
      Salah - Mahrez - Sanchez - Deulofeu
      Aguero - Zaha

      Speroni - Stephens - Kamara - Peltier

Get rid of Sanchez and you can make a very nice 4-4-2. My preferred formation atm

If you're not put off by their fixtures.... Sanchez & Zaha to Ramsey & Firimino?

yes, I like that....although I'd maybe consider Siggy over Ramsey

                Or that.

Would also give you 0.5, Peltier to a 4.5 (Tompkins?) to sure up the sub choices.

Doesn't need a full reset. Just the Sanchez question. If he isn't showing signs it's an easy swap and upgrade elsewhere. Good team.

surprised Trippier is playing in a meaning less game with a groin injury.

I made this move. Kane hasn't looked very sharp lately even though he's the tournament's top scorer.

3-4-3 as usual, Chadli LWB, Meunier RWB, Tielemans and Witsel CM, Hazard and KDB supporting Lukaku up top.

Gentlemen I have Ederson and Begovic...am I insane to want to play Begovic in GW1? Cardiff at Home has to be better than Arsenal Away...

        Begovic - (Ederson).

        Bailey - Lovren - Coleman - Mendy - (Cedric).

        Salah - Sane - Deulo - (Cairney) - (Ralls).

        Morata - Firmino - Zaha.

        Best 8.5m set-and-forget keeper combo?

        A) Ryan + Steele

        B) Begovic + Boruc

        C) Fabianski + 4.0 fodder (slight risk with no back-up)

        D) Other suggestion?

I’m going to start the season very similar to this, will be this team structure anyway....

        De Gea

        Robbo Valencia Douglas mendy Alonso

        Jota Salah cairney

        Kun aubbs

I’m gonna give it a go and if it crashes and burns I will play an early wildcard. Just love all the points from premium defenders and still have my trio of stars up front.
