I have Cairney, Hughes, and Neves. That’s three 5.0 mids, two of them start each week. The other mids are Salah and Mane.
    Is this crazy?

    A) Yes
    B) No

    1. Holmes

      If they delivers, no.

Also depends on what they are enabling. Should help to get some premium assets

Thanks. They do, I have Aguero, auba, and tosun up top with decent defenders.
Just not sure if it’s putting a bit too much pressure on the premiums?

It does put pressure but thats one of the strategies to play FPL.

Atleast they have good quality, so not an issue. Just make sure you have captaincy option every week

            • 7 Years

Yeah eventually I’ll drop at least one in a few weeks. Keep the Captain armband mainly on Salah/Aguero I think for the start of the season anyway

There will be plenty of weeks those 3 get you 4 to 5 points when they all lose 1 nil 2nil 3 nil 4 nil 5 nil

      Dangerous but be ready

It enables a stronger defence and attack (I'll ignore the 'Tosun' disaster 😉 ) - I'm for it.

Mate don't troll me because you are going with 3 City def

When Sane finishes the DGW with 18 pts, Aguero as triple captain with 60, and to top it off Mahrez with a nice little 12 points, don't come running and say you were not warned.

Punty is accurate, but every season there’s that one or two bargain players that everyone eventually buys. If I get 3 of them now, surely one of these will come through. (I hope)

The thing about the 7m-6.5m strikers is, if one isn't firing, it's an easy 1FT to get another one. These are the players you'll regularly cycle according to form and fixtures, unlike premiums that you'll want to hang onto through lean spells.

At first I struggled to see where all your money went, especially considering you don't have Salah. I seem similar teams with Salah in them.

You've spread a fair chunk of cash across your bench which is unnecessary. I'd play Pickford every week given his opening fixtures and downgrade Fab to a 4.0m. I'd downgrade Neves to a 4.5m and likewise with Tarkowski. You'll need the extra coin to accommodate some early bandwagons if you want to run with that XI.

      1. Letsgo!
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 7 months ago

I dont see why is that unnecessary when i take tarkowski and neves for other upcoming fixtures.

    2. FC Barkerlona

      5 years, 7 months ago

You could go Robbo > TAA so you can upgrade Mahrez > KDB after a couple of GWs

I'd change Fabianski > Begovic due to opening fixtures

      1. Gabbiadini

          5 years, 7 months ago

We don't know. At this point I'd say it's 50/50 between TAA and Clyne for GW1, but TAA should be safe for GW2 on.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years

And btw I'd keep faith in your keeper combo. Bego was a disaster last season whereas Fab was the stark opposite.

            1. Andy_Social
              • 11 Years
              5 years, 7 months ago

And ..... Mahrez appears to be in far better form than Sane. keep him.

For a 3-5-2 I'd say you've got a damn good set up, there.

        2. FC Barkerlona
          • 13 Years
          5 years, 7 months ago

Not 100%, but he should have done enough last season to hold a starting spot and will only get better.

He offers so much more than Clyne going forward as well, which makes Liverpool so lethal with Robbo on the other flank.

Not in my team at present although I have Robbo. Looking at how I can squeeze both in for GW1-4, then ship TAA out and back in for GW9 onwards.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years
            5 years, 7 months ago

I agree. I've got TAA, but I've got adequate cover on the bench if he isn't ready GW1.

All three 4 mil defenders started in their teams final pre season games.

Do you think this could work and which 6.5 mid would you use?

    A - Pedro
    B - Milivojevic
    C - Jota
    D - Fabregas

    Ederson - Boruc
    TAA - Bailly - WB - Peltier - Bednarek

      Pre-season. Don't be fooled.

      You need a 4.5m starting 4th defender.
      TAA may nt play GW1.
Bailly may be dropped after GW1 esp if Mou gets a CD he wants on TDD.
KdB prob won't be ready GW1
I don't think Fab has the energy for Sarriball.
Pedro may not get past GW1 or 2.

I struggled with this last year given the amount of information the 'scout' was making freely available through the FPL app and on TV.

However, the member's area has some great tools so make sure you use them to get your 'value' out of it. I like to support the Mark and the guys who got this going especially considering the amount of time I spend on here.

Salah is enough if you have Robbo or VVD.

If no Salah, I feel you need both Mane and Firminio to compensate, as well as one of the defs. Salah, Firminio as well as one of Robbo/Lovren/TAA is a also a good option.

That's my Salah / no Salah conundrum in a nutshell. No Salah gives a better balanced squad, but I can't find a balance to make up for Salah's points that I'm comfortable with.

It's an excellent Starting XI. The risk is the bench - you have premium players who will be rotated, esp around Europe time, and nothing on the bench to step up. That's a few weeks away, mind.

I really only have one conundrum left. Well before the CS kicks off anyway and it a medium term call more of a budget structure allocation call really. Don't consider first week or two fixtures in reply please.

With City's tasty opening fixtures, how are we ranking their assets in terms of nailedness? For me:

    1) KDB
    2) Ederson
    3) Aguero
    4) Fernandinho
    5) Otamendi
    6) Walker
    7) Mahrez
    8) D Silva
    9) Kompany
    10) Sane

    1. calinesti
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 7 months ago

Why is Aguero third? Started 22 out of 29 last season. And probably he's gonna be the main man against the top 6, hence less chance on hauls.

      1. FC Barkerlona

Because KDB and Ederson are more nailed week in week out?

If he's fit he starts that's how I see it. He's generally only benched when coming back from injury or in the latter stages of the season when fixtures pile up, like quite a few are.

    Thoughts?

    Ryan

    Davies Azpi Lovren
    Richarlison Salah Jota Eriksen
    Mitrovic Firmino Zaha

    Bench: Ederson Tarkowski Carieny Wan-Bissaka

    My thoughts:

    1. Will davies start as a centre back, if he does is he worth it?
    2. Lovren probably won't start first gameweek, who would be a decent replacement?
    3. Is going with three newly promoted players Jota, Richarlison and Mitrovic.

    What do you guys think?

    Cheers.

If I was happy with my defence and midfield, yes i would.

Do you mean start all 3 or have them in your squad? I've got a forward line like that but will play only 2 in a GW.

Yeah, was planning to play a 4-4-2. Seems to work well if I fill in my schedule. Got Ederson and 4 premium def + Salah, Eriksen, Mané with Jota as 4th midfielder. But feels like you might miss out on some points with this tactic.

Yeah, scared it's hard to bring premium strikers to the team without having to take a hit.

I'd don't agree with that at all. On the contrary, he has a settled defence and midfield, so he can easily cycle around 7m-6.5m strikers with form and fixtures.

If Aub and Kun start scoring for fun (which they probably will) he’ll miss the price rise and make it harder to get them.

Obviously, but equally if his premium defenders pile in with assists and cleanies, and his midfielders pile in with goals and assists, he's well in.

Seeing so many 4.0, 4.0, 4.0, 4.5, 4.5 benches .... going to be carnage in the first 3 game weeks relying on such a bench 😉

    1. Poppa Klopp
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 7 months ago

      Define carnage?

It all about avoiding a price drop for me and there are some great 4.0’s and 4.5’s for that IMO

        • 8 Years

When the players you have in your starting 11 don’t start and you get 0 or 1 coming off your bench 😉

Swap a 4.0 / 4.5 of course to get the number of bench players correct 🙂

        • 11 Years
        5 years, 7 months ago

Was gonna say, with 5 subs someone's gonna get elbowed off the bench 😉

But I fully agree. I think this attitude I keep seeing of 'why waste 0.5m on your bench' is ridiculous. My first choice XI is filled with premium assets and some will be rotated, thus I need quality ready to step up off my bench; otherwise, I end up making panicky transfers.

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years

I took so many hit last season that if I can cut out this season will probably earn me 40 points .... surely 1.0 extra on your bench for 40 points is worth it ?

Also I see a lot of very weak 10th and 11th player choices from weak relegation threatened clubs that people will have to play each week ...

Carnage I say .... carnage is in them there hills 🙂

Lots of early wildcards will be played this season, if you can plan properly now and protect it, it'll be such a weapon later when the pattern of the game settles down, it's changes yearly.

I'm trying not to make that mistake this year, aiming for a locked in top 4 defence, find when I go for cheap rotation pairs/punts and get it wrong, it drives transfers onto the correct ones.

The attack is mainly reliable so hoping transfers can be used for minor tweaks which can help me protect it, hopefully I don't have a car crash GW1 with loads of dropping value as that'll be what forces it's use.

          1. Hotdogs for Tea
            • 8 Years
            5 years, 7 months ago

Also what seems to be forgotten is that players that don’t start will not rise in price - a flukey GW1 haul by a 4.5 defender or a 5.0 mid (even though they are on your bench) will get the masses buying them up - having 15 players that have the chance of getting points helps with building team value

Anyone else toying with a 3-5-2 with Kun and Auba up top?
It essentially treats in which is better out of:
    A) Cedric, Cairney, Auba
    B) Jota, Arnie, Tosun

Even though B is more balanced I can't help thinking that Double A might be the way to go.

Which trio do you prefer and why?

Because all of them are 100% nailed. Costa might get competition from Adama Traoré and Cavaleiro is still at the club. Mahrez is obviious and Kamara is unusable.

Yeh, I'm on Eriksen for the first 2 easy GWs then he's KdB.

Spurs have a lot of away fixtures due to their stadium not being ready, then they'll be bedding it in, so I think their form will be a bit wibbly up to Christmas.

Was planning the same, although would like to keep him for gw2 but then City have good games starting then also. I don't know how Tottenham will start, lots of media coverage saying they've not signed anyone and that is bad but is that just an easy media thing to say?

    6. FC Barkerlona

5 out of their first 7 games are away, plus Spurs have so many returning late from hols.

I'll probably avoid any Spurs until GW6 I think, but both Eriksen and Moura are tempting for the first couple of games before the likes of KDB, Hazard and Pogba are up and running.
