The Community Round-up: Price rises, KDB and premium defenders

The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been dealing with the fallout from Gameweek 1 this week, with everything covered from early price changes to Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury.

As well as the usual array of superb discussions in the comments this week, there have been some welcome article and table submissions that can help with our planning for Gameweek 2 and beyond.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Our community’s dissection of Gameweek 1 began with detailed analyses of three of the weekend’s fixtures, with maltasi, Bruce Lee and Parm offering some real insight into the Watford v Brighton, Bournemouth v Cardiff and Fulham v Crystal Palace fixtures respectively.

Richarlison had his owners worried after limping from the field in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, but facer reassured us with what turned out be a spot-on appraisal of the Brazilian’s injury.

With the start of a new season came the return of our regular What Have We Learned? and Rough with the Smooth topics, the latter of which featured RedLightning‘s early ascent to the top of the Mods and Cons league.

The Gameweek 1 picks of 15 Hall of Famers were the subject of rent_boy‘s FPL player analysis, meanwhile.

Eden Wizard was the winner of our Scout Pick Community Lottery for Gameweek 2, as attention turned to this forthcoming weekend.

The Community discussed the pros and cons of gambling on an early transfer, while G-Whizz rounded up the “Doosra stats”, fixture odds and clean sheet odds to help with our planning.

The repercussions of Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury sparked debate, with Parm providing a deeper analysis of Manchester City’s tactical tweaks in the 2-0 win over Arsenal. Becks also gave us his predictions on what City’s line-up may look like this Sunday in De Bruyne’s absence.

ZoumasBloomers asked us for our favourite FPL goal of all time – as well as the goal that has hurt you the most.

DJDave1979 pondered if some premium defenders were season-keepers, while the indefatigable TorresMagic was back to round up the early price rises and drops. Cheers, TM!

COMMUNITY TABLES

There are numerous user-generated tables to pore over this week:

COMMUNITY ARTICLES

We have had some brilliant articles submitted this week, which all proved to be an enjoyable read. TopMarx provided some excellent research into what constitutes a successful season in FPL  looking at how the increase in managers and quantity of players using different websites for advice have both changed the parameters somewhat.

We continued our series of RMTs by having a look at RedLightning’s team for Gameweek 2  while MathewNixon treated us to part two of Everton’s Silva Lining.

COMMUNITY TOURNAMENTS

There was a fast start in FFS Mods and Cons for RedLightning, with TorresMagic and Ragabolly off to flyers too. Deputy editor Skonto Rigga is also currently in the top five after Gameweek 1, narrowly ahead of our very own Joe:

1. RedLightning – 104 points
2. TorresMagic – 98 points
3. Ragabolly – 91 points
4. Skonto Rigga – 90 points
5. Joe – 89 points

Meanwhile, a Bench Boost has fired Vladimir Jelenić to the summit of the public FantasyFootballScout league:

1. Vladimir Jelenić – 133 points
2. Warren Lim – 131 points
3. Ben Wheatcroft – 129 points
4. Andy Davies – 122 points
5. Petri Selkäinaho – 119 points

In our Members’ league, Nick Howard also deployed his Bench Boost chip to great effect:

1. Nick Howard – 129 points
2. Alistair Ross – 118 points
3. Takeshi Igomoto – 117 points
4. Timothy Wright – 112 points
5=. Rickhard Alen/Luke Aiello/Aron Hogni Georgsson – 111 points

Back in the day I worked as an electrician when Sky TV started. It was all finished and ready to go almost 6 months prior to the launch but we were all on double time and my job was to go around "undoing" work. I'm a Spurs supporter so I hope it's not true but i'd be surprised if there wasn't some truth in it.

    Hi guys ...
I just tossed the coin three times to select my captain.
And I wanted to share the winner, because today was my lucky day:
My cousin gave me a trip to Iceland and my father did not forget it's my birthday.

In short the gandor between Salah, Vardy, Mendy and Eriksen.
    It was Mendy.

Im trying to be optimistic for the Southampton vs Everton game, but dammit Everton's pace is going to kill us if we play a back 3. None of our CBs have an ounce of pace in them. A punty Richarlison (c) is actually viable.

I'm not buying into him yet either but he was unlucky to only get what he did last season. could have been much better. now we'll see if he continues finding the net. I personally don't think so (and hope not since I don't have him)

I have the same. I think it's the right choice. About a 50% chance of a clean sheet. Palace don't have that, and I reckon will score a max of 1 goal. Chance of PVA getting the assist for that goal is marginal, chance of BAPS negligible.

Worst realistic case scenario is lose 3 points for an assist as far as I can rationalise it.

Playing in a more attacking role with Jorginho behind him, as per his own comments. It's just his finishing that may let him down, but will keep getting clean sheets and probably the odd assist.

Hearing a lot of people talking about captaining Mendy.

Anyone got a clear explanation as to why it is a terrible idea?

    1. yanks250125
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 8 months ago

he has a "low" ceiling. Several players this week could put up a hat trick and 17-21 points. Mendy with, say, 10 points, would be a great haul. 10 From Kane or Aguero is nice, but not something we are going to celebrate

      1. Mysterion
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 8 months ago

Dunno about this... For HUD at home his "ceiling" is definitely high if it was as high as it was last week!

          • 7 Years
          5 years, 8 months ago

unless you think a brace is possible, his ceiling has to be lower compared to the alternative options (Salah, Aguero, Sterling, Kane, etc)

This week I'd punt on Maddison, next week Ramsey.

Kane's probably going to break the August duck this gw.. but next weeks game is putting me off. Kun takes the C this week.

Need to choose between Tomkins & AWB.
Thinking Tomkins because maybe he could score from a set piece.
    Thoughts?

I went Schlupp with AWB ahead of Tomkins on the bench , but only because I played Tomkins last week...

Yeah I played Tomkins last week. I feel he will outscore AWB in the long run, but AWB was very attacking.

Dusan what connection do you think there is between Pep's starting line up and the images Sky Sports uses for advertising?

I just have feeling he won't start. That would be 3 consecutive start for him.

Maby just go for Salah. He is a ok backup. If i had Sterling i would be tempted. Why risk Aguero 15 min or something?

Fwiw Aguero only had a cameo twice in the premier league last season, one of which was his first match after coming back from injury. Fwiw.

After a brief but intense period of deliberation I have chosen aguero (c) over Salah and mendy.

If my captains luck from last season still holds true, I strongly advise you all to avoid aguero. (I did captain Salah last week though)

    From next week:

    a) Ederson + Ramsey

    b) Hennessey + David Silva

    1. Skalla
      • 7 Years

A , but prefer Mendy to Ederson for the season.

Have him...Ederson or David Silva would be my 3rd City slot.

Definitely a - Ederson is much better pick than Hennessey and Ramsey more sure of starts than D Silva.

However, 2 city defence could be a waste of a city spot considering their other attackers. Do you already have B Silva?

A, but be prepared for contingency of Ramsey gets injured (which can happen anytime)

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I don't think City and Liverpool rotate as much as it's made out to be.

Before it gets too crowded, wise DZ peeps please help me on who to start?
    1. Kabasele 2. Peltier 3. AWB

And should i do Sesegnon to richa for free?
    A. Yes
    B. No and just bench sess (Fraser starts in that case)
