The Community Round-up: Hazard, Mendy and crushing disappointment

The Fantasy Football Scout community have been at their tireless best again this week, producing the usual excellent array of articles and tables to help with our planning for Gameweek 6.

The hot topics, meanwhile, have ranged from Eden Hazard’s hat-trick performance to the biggest Fantasy Premier League let-downs of 2018/19 to date.

We also look over the various tournaments and mini-leagues that involve FFS users.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Rotation’s Alter Ego, who also brought us a helpful injury news summary, asked the community for their thoughts on Eden Hazard after the Belgian’s monster haul in Chelsea’s win over Cardiff City last weekend.

Our daily hot topic on Monday asked the community for their recommendations for forwards priced at £7.0m or under, with the cases of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Callum Wilson and Wilfried Zaha, among others, championed.

Fantasy managers love a good moan and FatmanAndRobin‘s hot topic that asked for the biggest FPL disappointment of the season so far drew a lot of responses.

stat meanwhile raised the thorny issue of multiple FPL accounts and presented several excellent ideas on how this practice could be clamped down on.

Those who like to skip to their favourite bits on the Scoutcast will find Rotation Alter’s Ego meticulously marked timestamps very useful, while this week also saw the launch of a new video series on our YouTube channel. J0E was joined by Triggerlips for our very first Meet the Manager and subsequently asked for further candidates to make themselves known for future editions of this show.

ItOnlyTook9Years summarised the points needed to reach each milestone overall rank after Gameweek 5, while G-Whizz brought us his weekly triple whammy of “Doosra stats”, clean sheet probabilities and fixture odds ahead of Gameweek 6.

The look ahead to this weekend continued with our speculations on who will be the breakout star of Gameweek 6, while we also analysed the FPL lessons from the UEFA Champions League matches in midweek.

Benjamin Mendy was ruled out of Manchester City’s trip to Cardiff City by Pep Guardiola on Friday, meanwhile: are you keeping or selling?

Away from FPL, we asked what your goals were for the remaining eight weeks of Fantasy Eliteserien.

Community Articles

Three excellent articles to bring you this week.

With the UEFA Champions League getting underway, The Cisco Kid gave us a helpful primer on the UCL Fantasy game.

Hutch_James brought us the weekly Wisdom of the Crowd, while Greyhead returned with our regular The Great and the Good.

Community Tables

Below is a selection of the many fine tables created by our site users in the Members’ area. Remember, to see your table featured here (if that’s what you want!) please ensure you include a description explaining the purpose of it.

Community Tournaments

Cosmin Rotaru still leads our main public FFS League and is now up to 12th overall.

Andrew McKinnon is the new leader of our FFS Members League with 102 points this game-week, his third century of the season, after captaining Hazard and has shot up to 42nd overall. This is his second FPL season and he has not yet used any of his chips.

Chris James has taken the lead in FFS Mods & Cons after playing his wildcard. This is his ninth season, and he should stand a good chance of beating his previous best finish (28,110th in 2014/15).

Ben Harwood is the new leader of RedLightning‘s Top 10k Any Season mini-league after captaining Hazard and is up to 54th overall. This is his sixth season, his highest finish being 374th in 2016/17. He also continues to lead PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league.

The new world number one is Brayden McCullough with a Gameweek score of 118 after captaining Hazard and having Fraser auto-subbed from the bench. This is his 1st season and he has already played his Triple Captain and Wildcard.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, former winner Nice To Finally Michu top-scored with 112. The safety score was set at 45, which saw 217 eliminated and over 3,200 remain.

A Community Tournament of a different kind… (by Peter Kouwenberg)

February 24th 2018. The big winners were Liverpool and Brighton, who each recorded 4-1 victories in their respective triumphs over West Ham and Championship-bound Swansea. However, in North London, under the banner of Sparta Rotterdam, a team of FFScout luminaries were also celebrating, as they lifted the inaugural Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup, a real-life football tournament which brought to together over 30 grassroots players from around the country.

The Charity Cup is returning in the afternoon of Saturday 17 November 2018 (during an international break) and promises to be bigger and better than ever. Format will depend on numbers, but with a full 3G 11-aside pitch (which can also be divided) available to us all afternoon between 2pm-7pm we have the capacity and flexibility to structure the day however we wish and play until we drop or succumb to the pub landlord’s call.

We are extremely fortunate to have secured The Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre in north Watford (WD25 0UU), which is a fabulous facility and is perfectly located just minutes away from Junction 6 of the M1 and Junction 21A of the M25. For those travelling up from London by train, Garston Station is just 1.5 miles away. We will have the entire venue to ourselves with ample parking and with a number of pubs barely a mile away.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to take part, whatever the level and whether you are fit enough to play all day or just make a cameo appearance. We’ll be organising players into squads so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to bring invite a guest player or two to boost the numbers. All you need to do is email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com as soon as possible to confirm your interest and provide your contact details, at which point you’ll be added to the relevant WhatsApp group unless you would prefer to be kept informed by email or text instead.

February’s tournament proved a huge success and raised over £1,000 for Melanoma Research Foundation. This year we hope to raise more even money, involve even more players and do even more post-match drinking…

How's this for a WC team?

    Ederson (Hamer)
    Alonso / TAA / Chilwell (Wan-Bis / Bennett)
    Hazard / Mane / D Silva / Richarlison (Hojbjerg)
    Aguero / Zaha / Mitro

0.8 ITB - considering tinkering (Ederson to two 4.5s?) to upgrade TAA to Robbo, or maybe Bennett to Doherty.

    Thoughts?

Wrestling with similar issues - was sure about swapping Ed for two 4.5s before Mendy injury and now more reluctant, but still reckon it's the way to go. I think those upgrades you mention could pay off, especially the Robbo one! Rest of team very solid, all good choices.

I think two 4.5s, plus Robbo, with the intention to sell him for Mendy in a week or two

Didn't get any responses, comments greatly appreciated...I have 2FT to use

    1. Walcott to.....(I already have Maddison)
    a) Richarlison, b) Fraser, c) No transfer

    2. Mendy to....(Bought Mendy at 6.0)
    a) Laporte, b) Walker, c) Trippier, d) No transfer

      1) a) Fancy Rich to do well at Arsenal. Fraser's a good option and, despite Burnley's recent defensive problems, they could make it a tight game.

      2) Tough one. I've plumped for Ederson as City defensive cover. Tempted to say Laporte here but who knows with Pep!

Other option is to just do Walcott to Fraser today to get the price rise and then I can re-evaluate next week with 2FTs still. Therefore question is possibly who scores more this week: Richarlison, Walcott or Fraser....

IF I hit WC today my team would look like:

    Ederson | 4.0
    Alonso | Trippier | TAA | Bennett | WB
    Salah | Hazard | Richarlison/Maddison | Fraser | Hojbjerg
    Aguero | Zaha | Mitrovic

(2x4.5 GK and Bennett>Doherty also possible)

    Team advice appreciated please:

    Patricio
    Alonso / Robertson / AWB / Tomkins
    Salah / Hazard / Pedro* / Fraser
    Aguero / Zaha

    Hamer // Neves / Mendy* / Ings*

    A) Hold
    B) Pedro > Richarlison (-4)
    C) Mendy > ? (-4)

Really, my only active bench player is Neves. I do not want to keep Pedro long-term anyway, so is B sensible?

C may be sensible, but frankly I have not decided which defender I would want to replace him yet. Shaw/Chilwell/Perreria/Trippier etc. all have their merits... but considering I need to do something about Pedro (and Neves) soon, anyway, and the fact I can afford a 0.1 drop on Mendy... could this wait?

    Hennessey
    Bellerin AWB Alonso
    Salah Hazard Pedro Fraser Maddison
    Aguero Zaha

    Hamer; Bennett, Kamara, Mendy

    0FT and 0.5ItB

    A) good to go
    B) play Bennett over Pedro due to reduced minutes
    C) take a hit to remove Pedro or Mendy. Options include Doherty Trippier and Richarlison.

    Salah - D.Silva - Walcott - Cairney* - Stephens
    Aguero - Firmino - King

Really good but will give you lots of benching headaches. As you know, the only real 'risk' is no Salah

I know.. Think good subs will be more valuable this year though, rotation becoming more common

I'd put Mitro ahead of Wilson

What follows is ridiculous but I need help with arguably the most boring transfer options you’ll see all season!

With Mendy out I’m going to have to play Kevin McDonald. What’s the best option?

    A) Save FT, play McDonald
    B) McDonald to Ward
    C) Peltier to Bennett

I am tempted by Walker in for Mendy too...

Mendy out. Get a MUN defender if you don't have one.

Peltier to Bennett is a trasnfer you need to do at some point - just depends if anything else is more pressing

Have 1FT and 2.5 M ITB. Was planning to save FT until saw Pedro injury news, AWB will replace Mendy (keeping it) so bench is pretty weak. What option would you suggest?
    1. Pedro > Sane (had 1 goal & assist in 120 minutes and likely to play with Mendy injury; potential be huge differential )
    2. Pedro > Dilva (in form and seem to be most safe pick (supposedly) among city mids)
    3. Pedro > Fraser (in form and best value, fixture and game time plus leaves enough money to bring Salah back with 1FT)
    4. Pedro > Moura (in form and have good 4 fixtures; worried with game time as Ali and Son is back)
    4. 4.5 mid > Fraser and keep Pedro in bench (makes bench stronger in long run but not a big fan of this approach)
    5. No transfer > Save 1FT and take risk with Pedro game time, worst $4.5 mid will bank 1-2 points.

Also have the Pedro problem and looking like Doherty coming in.
I'd be all over 1. if could afford it. Obvious rotation risk going fwd though.

I'm considering Mendy & Mkhi to Doherty & Sterling but could get Robbo this week instead of Doherty and opt for Sane, tempting.

I guess this is what JOE would call Maverick move, lol. Very tempted to pull off #1. If I chicken out of this move most likely go for Dilva.

      A) Arnie + Ings + Pedro -> Mitro + Wilson + Fraser (-8). Would have to save FT next week to get Hazard or do Bilva + Mane -> Richarlison + Haz (-4)

      B) Mendy + Pedro + Ings -> 4.9 def + Fraser + Mitro (-8), with the possibility of doing Mane -> Hazard for free next week

      C) Mendy + Pedro + Arnie -> Robertson + Fraser + Mitrovic (-8), with the possibility of doing Mane -> Hazard for free next week

      D) Pedro + Arnie -> Fraser + Mitro (-4) with only 10 playing players but the possibility to get Haz for Mane next week
