We have revised our Watchlist player rankings for goalkeepers and defenders following Gameweek 6.

The Watchlist can be found in your sidebar on a desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet. It acts as a collection of our current thoughts on player selection for each position, also citing the factors that affect their ranking on the list.

As a general rule, we try to commit to just one player per position per club. However, in some cases we where we believe double-coverage is advisable, two players will be listed instead.

Goalkeepers

Ederson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist after securing his third clean sheet and a fourth return of the campaign in Gameweek 6. However, the Manchester City man loses his Favourable Fixtures factor with two particularly tough matches in their next four. Home matches against Brighton and Burnley sit alongside trips to Liverpool and Tottenham.

Alisson (£5.6m) also retains his place in the Watchlist based on his impressive form. The Liverpool man has kept a clean sheet in all but two matches so far this season. Neither of the fixtures factors applies to Alisson though with two favourable matches against Huddersfield and Cardiff coming after Chelsea and Man City.

Rui Patrício (£4.5m) and David de Gea (£5.9m) are two more non-movers on the Watchlist with no change in their respective form or quality of fixtures.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) and Petr Cech (£5.0m) appear next to reflect their continued good fixtures. Neither side has been particularly adept at keeping clean sheets in 2018/19, but they still have the potential. Schmeichel sits a little higher for an increased certainty of a start.

Joe Hart (£4.5m) is the first of two new inclusions in the Goalkeeper section of the Watchlist. His clean sheet against Bournemouth was his second of the season as the Clarets work towards improving on a poor start. Neither fixtures factor applies to him with Cardiff and Huddersfield up next but Man City and Chelsea after that.

Wayne Hennessey (£4.5m) drops a little bit despite recording a third clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 6. Just below him is our second new entry Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). Newcastle’s fixtures are on the turn now and apart from a trip to Manchester United in Gameweek 8, have several with clean sheet potential between now and Gameweek 19.

The popularity of Marcos Alonso (£6.9m) has pushed Kepa (£5.5m) off the Watchlist. The left-back is heavily owned for his offensive potential, and the current state of Chelsea’s fixtures do not encourage double-coverage of their defence.

Asmir Begovic (£4.5m) also dropped off after yet another match in which Bournemouth conceded more goals than their underlying numbers suggested they should have done.

Defenders

Alonso remains the top pick in defence. The Chelsea man has returned points in all but one match thus far in 2018/19, with three clean sheets, a goal and five assists to his name.

Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) has received a boost after registering his second assist of the season in Gameweek 6. He rises up the ranks as a result of other premium options facing injury and/or tough fixtures. Conversely, Spurs rank second for defence on our Season Ticker over the next six Gameweeks, and Trippier has a role in set pieces.

Andrew Robertson (£6.2m) just about holds onto his place but Trent Alexander-Arnold has run him close. The Scottish left-back has shown more consistent attacking returns over the course of the season so far, and we believe he is more likely to continue that during tough fixtures. Robertson is also more adept at picking up bonus points with Alexander-Arnold already earning three yellow cards this season.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.5m) takes Benjamin Mendy’s place on the Watchlist with a fair bit of uncertainty over the wing-back’s fitness. There is no return date on him currently and until we know more, we have to take him off. Laporte is the most reliable replacement considering he has played every minute of the league campaign so far and has some goal threat too.

Matt Doherty (£4.4m) tops off the best of the rest with Wolves’ defensive potential, appealing fixtures and his budget price. Jose Holebas (£4.9m) loses his price-related tag now that he has risen in price again but still stays in our thoughts with Watford’s relatively kind run and his role in set pieces. The Greek also receives a ‘Sus’ factor as he is one yellow card away from a one-match suspension.

Luke Shaw‘s (£5.1m) return to the Man United team keeps him in the Watchlist and he manages to lose his Rotation Risk factor. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.3m) sits just below him. His slight increase in value has reduced his appeal a little for non-owners and only one of Crystal Palace’s next six fixtures looks like one where a clean sheet is likely for him.

DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m) moves onto the defence Watchlist for the same reason as Dubravka. The American has a goal and an assist to his name so far this season and is the most assured of a start out of the budget options available at Newcastle. Jamaal Lascelles is arguably a bit too pricey while there is competition for places at left-back and centre-back between Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schär and Paul Dummett.

Ben Chilwell (£5.0m) takes the place of colleague Ricardo Pereira after the latter was dropped for Gameweek 6. Pereira was held accountable by the local press for the manner of Leicester’s heavy defeat to Bournemouth in Gameweek 5. It appears that manager Claude Puel was in agreement as he deployed Daniel Amartey in his stead against Huddersfield. Meanwhile, Chilwell held onto his place and continued to post encouraging underlying statistics.

Worth Swapping Aguero for Kane for one week in GW8 for captaincy points and bringing back Aguero in GW9?

Wouldn't do it, especially if you bought Aguero early on as you'd lose 0.4M in value.

that's my move for GW8. I think Kane (C) in that is a must.
I reckon could also outscore Aguero in GW9 as Burnley have tightened up.

        Arnie > Mitro for free?

My team is quite set for this week so would be purely to protect price. On the downside would kill off my chances of getting Kane next week...

arnie drops tonight, there next 4 fixtures arent that kind, if your subs are poor and u have no money in the bank make the change before prices change.

This might be worthy of a hot topic, but just how essential is a City midfielder?

4 options right now >8.5m and none of them are assured of a start!
the only reliable player to own is kdb who's still injured

fwiw, i own Dilva and am worried given he started midweek

        discuss....

It’s clear to most that city’s midfield is a minefield so obviously none are essential. KDB was most nailed and even then wasn’t essential when fit.

Bernardo has suddenly emerged as a great option but if David returns he will suffer. Maybe Sane if Mendy is out? Sterling will play a lot but Kun & Sterling means you have to lose Mo or Haz, hmmm, nah

Same as last season. if you want one you pick one and stick with it as long as they are starting most games. Too many people ditch a player after missing one game or not scoring points in one or two games. Man City will rotate but over the season their players who start most games will all rack up a bunch of points. Patience is key. having said all that I don't own any and don't intend to in the near future. just if you want to that's how I think you have to play it.

            Currently:

            Patricio
            Alonso, Robertson, Mendy
            Mane, Hazard, Moura, Dilva, Maddison
            Kun, Wilson

            Hamer, Bissaka, Holebas, Kamara

            0.3 idb

For me to bring Sterling in for Silva, I would have to take Mendy out for a 3.9...

then if you have 2 free transfers, even 1 you should just sell mendy bring in a cheap decent wingback and sit on the other transfer. People are waiting to see whats up ith mendy but even if he starts training how soon is he gonna start in a match, might be time to cut times, hes dropping hard

I own D. Silva & even though he started tonight I still think he will start v BHA but will come off early. This guesswork on will he play or won't he & trying to guess his minutes if he does start is a nightmare. I feel like rage trading D. Silva to Richarlison for a -4 hit. Richarlison surely hauls v Fulham. So which option do you like:
        (a) play D. Silva (if he doesn't play Holebas/WB subs in) or
        (b) D. Silva out - Richarlison in for a -4 hit

        Cheers

I will wait until tomorrow's games are over at least but thats my current thinking.

Was thinking of losing Auba due to holding of too much cash. Mendy is maybe out and pedro (maybe out and tough fixtures).

Plan is after the easy fixtures for kane, use the cash to bring in mane (for his easy fixtures)

kane if u are prepared to sit on him and wait and pray, may grab 2 in the next 3 fixtures. Other than mendy, the safest city def pick is walker. Auba has good fixtures. The players u already have to the ones u want to switch too are too big a gamble.

Mendy + pedro to laca and doherty (if u have a little in the bank to make it) What is your midfield like? if u want to sell auba get a better mid (e.g. mane has a good 5-6 fixtures, they do perform against big teams, hazard/aguero, just make the auba money count)

Aguero trippier/rose maddison or mitrovic hazard doherty (may be off by a little $ didnt work it out). Lotta options just always get people who are already performing when u sell expensive players

Thank you so much for ur time to give ur detailed opinion.

Kane for me is for the short term (2 great fixtures). If he impresses, then I can keep. If he doesn't then I'll get maybe vardy and get mane after those exact 2 tough fixtures.

I do have Aguero and my mid is salah-Richarlison-Pedro-Fraser-4.3m

Looks good to me, if Mendy & Pedro are out.
Spurs look good for next 2, maybe even 3.

Yes exactly. Same thoughts. Tomorrow's lineup for arsenal would help. Again, kane easier fixtures, only striker and playing 90 minutes. Auba, not as easy fixtures, playing out wide and always subbed

maybe a bit sideways have you considered Auba to lacazette this week, and next week aguero to Kane?
I've been thinking having Kane and lacazette for GW8 wouldn't be bad with liverpool and city tied up.

your team is fine, bank the transfer and bench walcott OR just swap wally. Walcott does have a possible high scoring fixture vs fulham tho.

Bank it if you know yourself and you're gonna want a better striker than ings so u can sell wally for a cheaper mid and bring in a better striker el.g. fraser and wilson/king for wally and ings the follwing week)

After falling into the Watford trap and believing that they would be good I therefore got holebas and pereyra on my wildcard. It's a disaster and after giving them 2 games I will now get Richarlison for pereyra, but as Mendy is injured I have to get rid of him and give holebas more chances. So my question is:

        1. Mendy -----> Trippier (wait untill tomorrow to see if he playes in the cup perhaps)
        2. Mendy -----> Laporte (can't get walker)
        3. Mendy -----> Robertson, but then I gotta get rid of alisson for a -4 to switch GK or keep pereyra and yes, I regret not having Robertson in my team. But I would have him if Lloris didn't get injured for 3-4 weeks

Could also get Doherty, but I got Bennet and I doubt that I will get a more expensive player than richa at my mid

hmmm just watched the scout cast and my two transfer in choices seemed to be a hot topic, i'm still undecided on what to do, i think it should probably be
A of the 2 i list below , i think maybe in my position, i don't need to be taking any hits and just do solid ft.

        A) Lucas to Richarlison
        B) Salah and Kamara to Kane and Ward -4

Well, they are not wrong per se. Spurs have struggled to get it going this season and Kane hasn't looked same after his injury. Golden boot was mostly because all the pens he scored. Stats have been worse than previous seasons as well. So it is a concern. But given it would be a short term move (at least for me) I hope he would deliver against two of the worst teams in the league. Have to accept all possible variables when taking a risk. It's not impossible Kane blanks this week and Salah scores a brace for example.

Good point 🙂 I am just looking it at my own teams perspective and it would have to be Salah making the way. And that would mean 4 transfers to get Kane in and out. That requires him hauling both games it to be worth it. I guess saving makes more sense, could even do something like Kun to Kane next gw if I really want to go for that Kane gw8 captaincy.

I’m playing both. Too much of a crapshoot to pick which one to bench, Robbo is essential going forward imo
              Could see Alonso blanking though
I’m also playing awb & tripper then benching SCook

Feels like it’s one of those weeks..

Wouldn’t play awb over any of them. Maybe doherty for robertson

I agree. Doherty is nailed for me. Just need to bench one of Alonso or Robbo

Mids are Haz. Moura, Salah, Fraser.... So not really helpful. Kun, Mitro and Zaha up top

Tough. Id be tempted to bench Fraser. Or Robertson

Thoughts on Salah and bench fodder to Kane and gundmundsson? Will wait until later before doing since none of them are near a price change.
Will leave me with the following:

        Patricio
        Alonso Robertson lindelof
        Hazard Fraser bilva gudmundsson
        Kane kun mitro

Hamer awb mendy(will start if he’s available) 4.4

        Which combo:

        A) Lacazett + L.Moura
        B) Kane + Højbjerg

I'm concerned about Laca and Moura's minutes and scared to miss out on a Kane haul.

I'm on WC at the moment.

Are you suggesting to stick to A and then swap to B week after if needed?

Who should be on my bench do you reckon for this week? My team is:

        Patrico, Hennesey
        Alonso, Robertson, Trippier, Doherty, Wan-Bisska
Hazard, Mane, D. Silva, Richarlson, Fraser
        Aguero, Wilson, Jimenez

Currently have Hennesey, Alonso, Fraser & Wan

But have been back & forth a few times

Jeez, that's a pretty brutal dilemma. I'd probably play Alonso over either Robertson/Doherty and I'd be tempted to put Fraser over Jimenez as well.

Have a feeling whatever I do, I'll end up leaving a load of points on the bench. Probably best to stick Hazard and Mane on the bench lol

Yeah, definitely risky no matter what decision you make. I couldn't live with myself benching Alonso though personally. It feels like every game he has a decent chance at grabbing a goal (or two)

Benching headaches should always be avoided.. nothing worse than a big haul on the bench. Time for a team structure adjustment
