Watchlist Update – Alisson consolidates hold on Goalkeepers top-spot

We have begun our update of the Watchlist ready for Gameweek 9.

Up first is the goalkeepers after we ran the rule over the best Fantasy Premier League options between the sticks.

Read ahead to find out how we’ve ranked each asset.

Alisson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist for goalkeepers but has consolidated his position there. The Liverpool man’s latest clean sheet brings his form back to A, with only three shot-stoppers ranking higher than him in that department on the official FPL website. Alisson also gets the Favourable Fixtures back with Huddersfield (away), Cardiff (home), Arsenal (away) and Fulham (home) his next four matches.

Ederson‘s (£5.7m) factors remain the same, A for form and no fixture aspect, so he stays in second place. Two home fixtures against Burnley and Southampton appear to have excellent clean sheet potential but they sit next to a trip to Spurs and the visit of Manchester United.

Another shutout and bonus-haul for Rui Patricio (£4.6m) in Gameweek 8 justified our decision to put him third on the Watchlist several weeks ago. The Wolves man obviously retains his A for form, has appealing fixtures and is still a bargain at £4.6 so he stays where he is.

Kepa (£5.5m) comes back onto the goalkeeper Watchlist in fourth place following the recent drop in Marcos Alonso‘s (£7.0m) attacking numbers. We had taken the decision to remove the Chelsea shot-stopper because Alonso was offering potential at both ends of the pitch, and when we weren’t so sure about Chelsea keeping clean sheets, we did not want to hugely encourage a defensive double-up. However, if Alonso is regressing offensively, and Maurizio Sarri’s men are looking solid at the back, then Kepa deserves to be an option once again as he can offer the same level of defensive potential for a much cheaper price.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) rises up the rankings a little as Leicester’s fixtures look very promising after Gameweek 9. Furthermore, they have ranked very favourably for shots conceded, efforts on target allowed and big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks, all of which can be seen in the Members’ Area.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) retains the Favourable Fixtures for a little longer which is why he is still sixth in the list. Once a home match with Leicester and a trip to Crystal Palace are out of the way, Arsenal face tough matches against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United between Gameweek 11 and 15.

Likely to overtake the German very soon, and hot on his tails, is Brighton shot-stopper Mat Ryan (£4.5m). His first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 8, plus some bonus too, was timed well with the Seagulls’ fixture swing and has seen his form rise from C to B. Between now and Gameweek 21 on our Season Ticker, they rank second for defence.

Ben Foster (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist now that Watford’s fixtures have perked back up again. The schedule is favourable for the Hornets with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton three of their next four opponents. Foster comes in with a C for form with no clean sheet since Gameweek 1, however.

Just below him is Newcastle’s custodian Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). The Magpies may have allowed a considerable number of shots over the past four Gameweeks but the quality of their fixtures cannot be overlooked. Brighton (home), Southampton (away) and Watford (home) are their next three opponents.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets onto the list for his ability to cover Rui Patricio’s tougher fixtures in Gamweeks 11 and 12. That’s when Wolves face Spurs and Arsenal while West Ham play Burnley and Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) has now dropped off the Watchlist. Crystal Palace’s awful quadruple-hit of tough fixtures is now just one week away. Between Gameweeks 10 and 13, the Eagles must run the gauntlet of Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home) and Man United (away).

Joe Hart (£4.6m) has also been pushed off the Watchlist after failing to keep it Cardiff or Huddersfield. Furthermore, it’s Man City (away) and Chelsea (home) up next for the Clarets.

I decided to spend some time with FPL during the break and added to watchlist Zabaleta(4,3) and Vokes(5,3). Rate them as the best defender under 4,5 and striker under 6 . Any thoughts?

Vokes over Jimenez seems strange. What have I missed? Zaha just sounds like a player who is one dodgy game away from a benching.

Agreed on Zaba but have Fabianski so sticking with Bennett.

Jiminez's stats are undeniably good, but Vokes could nail himself in with a couple more goals.

      Good picks!

Looking to finance Fraser -> KDB in 2-3 GWs time, so Trippier ->Zabaleta and/or Mitro->Vokes can do the job.

Even if both Salah and Mane are passed fit, I'll be steering clear of Liverpool attack until they show some form. Players with niggles are always doubts when it comes to performing. I'll be sticking with Robbo in defence and sticking to City attack, probably Sterling.

Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham (2 at home). I won't be waiting for form to miss out on the juicy points. It may well be too late by that point.

I concur. If they can't haul against those three then their problems are bigger than mine. Salah has thrown a spanner in the works though...

I don't own him but am bringing him in for 2 FT. I don't see why people are against bringing in potentially the most explosive player when he is up against 3 of the 4 weakest teams. Easy trade out of he doesn't really catch fire.

Depends fixture by fixture for me. I'll be using the Huddersfield game as a scouting mission and if they pass the eye test I may get one of them in for Cardiff and then keeping for the long run of games.

On the other hand, if they do toil again then I'll probably be better off with Sterling as City to look more dangerous in attack.

I brought Kane before Hud and it paid off. People brought him in after Hud and it didn't pay off. We all know the potential of what Salah can do to those 3 teams that I am not sure a scouting mission is needed. If it doesn't work he is a simple trade out to Sterling/KDB/Kane etc.

I did that very same move and it paid off for me too.

The difference here is - Salah looks bereft of form on top of his injury. Doesn't bode well.

Mane's stats have regressed. If Salah doesn't play then his chances of points are nullified too - will get marked tighter.

They might have played tough fixtures lately, but it's not that easy to turn the tap back on.. They have been getting chances and they haven't been putting them away so that's worrying.

And most importantly, Sterling has better chance of points Burnley (h) (he might beat their hauls even if they do haul). I still have money itb for Fraser to Mane (I'll still have Wilson) the week after so I'm quite happy with that strategy.

Why is that different to Kane? He also looked bereft of form (and still does).

I looked at Kane's stats before Huddersfield and they seemed to be on the up and that's why I got him in. He struggles more when he's deployed OOP - I think it's more to do with positioning than form. When Kane's been getting chances he's been converting at a better rate than Salah.

Salah's stats have been high all season and he's been missing chance after chance after chance , so I've decided to ignore his stats until he can prove that he's able to convert those chances again.

He had lots of half chances, 1 or 2 big ones. I agree Liverpool attack is not in form (which i think is due to fixture dificulty/congestion and change of tactics), but against these weaker teams the form comes due to the sheer amount of chances they will get each game.

Look at Robertson, no assists in the last few games. But will rack them up against lower opposition

His XG was good in those games. You would expect his XG to be a lot better in the next 4. He will have the highest XG of any player over the next 4 games. To me he clearly looks like the standout pick.

Wouldnt say a lot of chances. But his finishing always leave a lot to be desired, thats true (last season was a fluke in that department, and even then it wasnt that good). But against Hud, Car and Ful there should be at least 100% more opportunities.

That is an interesting point. I would say owning Aguero and Salah partially covers getting any decision on captaincy between the pair wrong. I would be concerned not owning either. Both look like good captaincy options to me.

        Milner's injured
        Salah's injured
        Van Dijk's injured
        Van Dijk's fit
        Mane's injured
Salah's fit - could be on pens with Milner out.
        .......Milner's fit.
        Mane could play.

Yeah. Id rather have my money on the field than on the bench. You're bound to get the choice wrong too and have bench points when all of those could easily haul.

People looking at Sterling for GW9. Thoughts on possible benching? He was last benched for HUD at home where it was inevitable they would park the bus and Burnley will likely be similar. Last time they played their creative midfielders to pick the defence apart so could possibly be Silva, Bilva, Gundo/Bruyne with Fernando holding and Jesus and ageuro up top (as per GW2). Worth considering?

Correct but not only Sterling, all of those playing two games during IG with following CL games coming up is a big risk.

Always worth considering with Pep. Main issue for me is if Mendy's nailed (I think he is), how will that work for Sterling, Sane, Mahrez, (Jesus). Just can't see Sane being perpetually benched - early season was due to his attitude/form.

Agreed, don't think Mahrez will get much time now bruyne coming back and sterling and sane fight it out for minutes. Jesus only chance is games like this where they are expected goals.

Looking at Burnley's stats for goal attempts conceded, shots in the box conceded and shots on target conceded, it doesn't seem much guile will be required to unlock their defence.

Going forward, would you rather have Yedlin or Balbuena to rotate with Doherty? Newcastle seem to have a better home/away rotation with Wolves, but WHU also rotate very well in terms of tough/easy fixtures.

Balbuena - assuming Doherty starts vs. all but top 6 opponents, the fixtures you'd play him for are better.

I have Sterling and Kane and it's a right old pickle that one. I hate Kane because he gave me my first capitancy blank of the season last week but I think people are underestimating Burnley if they expect them to leak shed loads of goals against City. They held them to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor last season, which they almost won! Kane has a great record in London derbies, particularly against the Ham... decisions decisions...

Kun(C) here. Had a nice 2 week rest so at least plays 70m, more if the game isn't done and dusted yet i expect. Kane will play deeper again with Eriksen still out. Happy to have Kane, but probably his last game for a while.

He was subbed-off after 65 minutes with the game at 0-0 against Liverpool. 😕

He was and I think he will continue to lose minutes to Jesus, but this time he has had a rest while Jesus has been playing international games for Brazil. I expect Aguero to get a full match, or close to 90 mins, this time around.

                    RMWCT

                    Patricio (Stek)
                    Alonso TAA Doherty Robertson Mendy
                    Hazard Sterling Salah (Richarlison) (Kennedy)
                    Mitro Wilson (Kamara)

Big issue who to bench this week, currently at Rich

Interesting team that! Benching Richarlison would actually make me upset though.

Id probably drop Doherty for Rich, you have Patricio already covering wolves defence.

                          Hard move though

Good to see another big three midfield WCT!
                      I'm going:
                      Patricio (Hamer)
                      (Bennet) TAA Doherty Robertson Mendy
                      Hazard Sterling Salah (Masuaku) (Obiang)
                      Aguero Wilson Mitro

So I have Aguero instead of your Alonso but you have a better bench

I could probably squeeze in Aguero but it would mess up my bench a lot. Also, seems to me that around 6M - 7M bracket there is better value in attack and I have "cover" (hate that word) for Aguero in Sterling and Mendy.

There was an article about it on here a couple of days ago. Basically in the last four games King has better stats, but in the whole season it’s Wilson

                      But King has potential injury

What do you guys think of this wc?

                      Patricio 4
                      Mendy TAA Pereira Bennet Diop
                      Salah Hazard Sterling Kennedy 4.4
                      Firmino Arnautovic Mitrovic

                      Patricio will become Fabianski
And sterling KDB to upgrade somewhere

Much prefer Laca over Firmino. I started the season with him and dumped a couple of weeks ago. He's been awful. Would prefer Doherty over Pereira but Perry could be good. You got any money left in the bank? Kennedy not shown much potential. Salah messing with the value of your team. But generally speaking not bad overall.

Not for this week, but what do you people think of changing Aguero+Maddison to Vardy+Sterling?
I mean if Aguero continues to play for around 60 mins.

I own Sterling and not Aguero atm, and have issues captaining Sterling as i think he could get benched every now and then. Also think Leicesters fixtures suits Maddison more after this gw, Vardy is a good option against teams that attack.

Morning! I've got 2 FT's and looking to make 3 changes to the team below, any advice?

                      Begovic - Hamer
                      Bennett - WanB - Trippier - Pereira - Alonson
                      Hazard - Fraser - Salah - Maddison - Richarlison
                      Ings - Aguero - Mitrovic

I could always look to move just Trippier on (for Mendy or Robertson) and defer my 3 change mini-wildcard till the week after?

                      Any help appreciated!

Why 3 changes? Wait for news on Salah. I'd get a Liverpool defender in for their fixtures, and Ryan/Dubravka/Fabianski in goal instead of Begovic.

This is what I mean in should I wait? I would prefer Doherty over WanB given CPA's difficult upcoming fixtures and would like someone over Tripper, to change keeper then means a -4 and not sure I should make 3 changes all on my defence/keeper?

Or just the Begovic and Tripper changes and avoid a hit?

If you got WanB for 4.0 I'd keep for the season or until he loses his Place. You already have too much money on Your bench, no need for more.

Ok, I did get him for 4.0 had him since season start. Do you agree that I should downgrade Ings to take some money off my bench and save selection headaches?

No need for a hit. I would downgrade Ings to free up cash and avoid benching headaches. And then get a Liverpool def or Mendy.

Thanks, had a look and getting Kamara in saves me 1.2m in cash but gives me a 'dud' on the bench which worries me, I can keep Ings and the FT from him and still afford to swap Tripper to Robertson with 0.1m spare.

Looks like so far i've dodged injuries in my squad, opinions on transfers? WC probably next week, Firmino was one to transfer out but looks like he is the safer option in Liverpool attack at the moment.

                      Alonso TAA Doherty
