Spot the Differential – Anderson creativity turns heads for Gameweek 9

While Liverpool team news is perhaps the most popular Fantasy Premier League topic this week, we shouldn’t forget about differentials.

In fact, the recent fitness saga for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds has triggered an inclusion of a poorly owned attacking Anfield asset.

He is one of three options, owned by under 5% of Fantasy bosses, who we like the look of for Gameweek 9.

Felipe Anderson (£6.8m)

Ownership: 2.6%

Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) is, of course, the more popular West Ham option right now but his new colleague Felipe Anderson (£6.8m) is already coming into his own.

His role in set pieces has helped him rise to joint-second for chances created in the last four Gameweeks. He is level with Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and just one behind Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) over that time period.

The Brazilian has been involved in direct free-kicks and his place within West Ham’s front three mean that he is often on the receiving end of crosses from the opposite flank – that’s why he was able to score against Manchester United in Gameweek 7.

Tottenham will be without Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) again on Saturday and may be more vulnerable to a West Ham goal than usual, furthering Anderson’s appeal.

Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m)

Ownership: 1.9%

While Brighton have typically struggled away from home this season, a Gameweek 9 trip to Newcastle United could be their chance to buck the trend.

Only one side has allowed more penalty box goal attempts than the Magpies in home games this season and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in front of their own fans.

For that reason, Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) could be a differential to consider. He has registered a fine balance between creativity and goal threat in the last four Gameweeks and has more shots on target than colleague Glenn Murray in that time too.

Furthermore, his role in set pieces could prove important. No team has conceded more headed attempts on goal than Newcastle in 2018/19.

Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m)

Ownership: 1.3%

No don’t worry, you haven’t accidentally stumbled across an article from 2014, we have actually tipped Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m) for potential success this week.

The Liverpool striker has made a comeback from injury this season that looks like it could be permanent at long last. More importantly, he’s been getting the job done on the pitch with two substitute Premier League goals this season and strikes also in the Champions League and EFL Cup.

With the recent fitness troubles of Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Sadio Mane (£9.8m) there is every reason that Sturridge could come into the side for the trip to Huddersfield Town.

Given he has averaged a goal every 21.5 minutes in the Premier League this season, a start in Gameweek 9 would stand him in good stead for attacking returns.

    A. Kane to Aguero(c) for free
    B. Kane & Mane to Aguero & Sterling (c) for -4
    C. Kane, Mane & Fraser to Aguero, Salah & Hojberg for -8
    D. Hold & Hazard(c)

    The best move ?

So, although Aguero is miles ahead in the captain poll, given Mohamed Salah had been an injury doubt for much of the week but has now returned to training, are you tempted to go with the Liverpool man instead?

I don’t currently own Salah, though I am looking at bringing him in, but I think I’m gonna stick with Aguero for the armband. He’s just so hard to ignore in the favourable home fixtures and looks assured of a starting spot on the back of two weeks off with no international duty again.

The caveat of course is that City fly off for a Champions League game away at Shaktar Donetsk on Tuesday night, so we could see Aguero having his minutes managed again.

Does that sway you towards Salah? Do you fancy Hazard to give José a hard time? Is Raheem Sterling being overlooked after his England exploits?

Who are you captaining this gameweek and why?

Aguero. Had a break, not an injury doubt and at home where he is potent. Salah can be (c) next GW.

Salah as I don't think there is any point in owing him if you can't captain him in the next 2 matches athis price.

      Salah.
One of the few weeks that he will be 30% owned and a differential against Huddersfield.

Plus Burnley are a little more resolute than Huddersfield because they know their strengths. Huddersfield on the other hand play more possession oriented and can run into difficulties against high press teams.

Plus Liverpool have a UCL match on the Wednesday at home.

      I am captaining Junior Stanislas!
Bournemouth love to score and Southampton are conceding for fun. King, Fraser are doubts. Doing Fraser out and Stanislas (C) in.
Even if he doesn't start (which is unlikely), I'm ready to give 6m for a 30min Stanislas if the crowd is willing to give 11m for a 60min Kun.

When Stanislas is fit, he plays. And when he plays, he plays like a beast!!

Salah will score poonts maybe only 6 or 8, but something. I'd captain Aguero because I think he can score more than that.

You pay premium for two possible reasons:
      1. Explosiveness (hello Hazard)
      2. Consistent returns (hello Salah)

Option 2 is ok for Salah owners not to captain him.

      Salah (C)

I fell in the same trap as Kane, someone who was majorly overlooked ahead of Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Got him and didn’t trust him with the armband against Huddersfield then he gets a brace everyone jumps on him. So I felt pressured to follow the crowd and captain him against Cardiff.

This is one of the few weeks where captaincy decision requires absolutely no thought for me.

Salah injury concerns mean kun is no brainer

Prob would have captained kun even if salah hadn't been 'injured' the other day

I'm planning to captain Hazard this week because Hazards in great form and Man United look terrible. I fully expect the match to be a blow-out 4 or 5 nil.

I really want to captain Salah, I just can't bring myself to do it with the uncertainty. Don't want to ruin my good start to the season. So I'm gonna be boring and captain Aguero.

If rollign both Agüero and Sterling , it strikes me as sensible to captain Sterlign who's arguably got the form, and put vice captain on Agüero in case Sterling is rested. Impact of Agüero haul should be mitigated somewhat, while retaining opportunity of a rank boost if Sterling delivers.

Surely more sensible to captain Aguero, who's EO will be massive and let Sterling who's owned by less than 7% be the differential he is.

I've done badly, for some reason Adama Traore is in my team and i've just brought in Firmino as a 2 week differential.

If you think Fraser is going to be rested then go for it.

Schürrle has been weird this season in that his role is different to what I expected, he is peppering long shots(20/29 shots outside the box) but has scored his 2/2 big chances and has 3 goals from 9 shots in the box.

It’s not his quality, it’s his hunger to score

      IN?
      A) Patricio (and rotate with Heart)
      B) Ryan (use over the next few GW)
      C) Dubravka (use over the next few GW)

If you have Hart already, then A is a no-brainer.

Really considering Salah --> Sterling and also giving him the armband this GW.

Other option is Kane --> Aguero

Let me know your thoughts please!

Afternoon all, getting there with the WC now that all press conferences have ended.

      Patricio - Hamer
      Alonso - Robertson - Doherty - Zabaleta - Bennet
      Hazard - Salah - Madisson - Richarlison - Obiang
      Aguero - Mitrovic - Wilson

      0.0 banked. Feedback greatly appreciated??

You spelt Maddison to make him look like he has some secret Brazilian heritage, but otherwise looks good 🙂

Ederson, Pereira and Vardy out for Patricio, Robbo and Aguero for -8. Is that madness?

Want Patricio long term (5.5 for a GK is too much, I need the money elsewhere), double up Robbo/TAA is tasty for Pool’s great run of fixtures (next three especially), and not owning Aguero could kill my OR (which Im reasonably happy with).

      Thoughts?

Or just do Vardy out for Aguero? Have 2.5 itb.

Then again, Im likely to do the other two moves for a -4 next week.

If you're going to do the other moves long term anyway, you may as well do them before this weekends fixtures

Suppose Kane to Kun for ft. Would you then do?
      A) Fraser to Richarlison -4
      B) Shaw to Mendy -4
      C) Save and hope for the best with Fraser with bench AWB Höjberg Shaw

klopp has thrown out quite the conundrum with that one...a real head scratcher.

It is Mane most are interested in. His ownership in the Top 10k is massive (higher than Salah) so is he fit or not?

Keeping this week. Roy's always coy about him. Good form away from home in the league this season and don't want to take a hit for him out for him to go and score. Also gives an extra week to monitor replacements.

Do you think Pep wants to start KDB against Shaktar? Theres no way i see KDB starting 3 games in a row after his injury so maybe he starts on bench against Burnley and starts against Shaktar or starts vs Burnley and misses out midweek

Hard to predict, but if he benches him for Shaktar, his games are more spread out, so he gets more use out of him. I think the slightly more likely scenario in my head is that he starts tomorrow, but comes off early if they are winning or if he needs to, and then they can reassess for Shaktar.

Trying to be sensible about this and not go mental on the hits.

          Ederson // Hamer;

          Shaw* // Alonso // Robertson // AWB // Holebas**;

          Mané* // Hazard // Fraser* // Richarlison // Billing;

          Kane // Zaha * // Mitrovic

          1FT 0.8 ITB

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was debating doing Kane + Mané to Aguero + Sterling (-4), but I'll want Mané back next week and Kane could outscore Aguero easily. Any other suggestions? Maybe just a Shaw -> TAA/Doherty? Worried about getting enough players out.
