Spot the Differential – Anderson creativity turns heads for Gameweek 9

While Liverpool team news is perhaps the most popular Fantasy Premier League topic this week, we shouldn’t forget about differentials.

In fact, the recent fitness saga for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds has triggered an inclusion of a poorly owned attacking Anfield asset.

He is one of three options, owned by under 5% of Fantasy bosses, who we like the look of for Gameweek 9.

Felipe Anderson (£6.8m)

Ownership: 2.6%

Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) is, of course, the more popular West Ham option right now but his new colleague Felipe Anderson (£6.8m) is already coming into his own.

His role in set pieces has helped him rise to joint-second for chances created in the last four Gameweeks. He is level with Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and just one behind Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) over that time period.

The Brazilian has been involved in direct free-kicks and his place within West Ham’s front three mean that he is often on the receiving end of crosses from the opposite flank – that’s why he was able to score against Manchester United in Gameweek 7.

Tottenham will be without Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) again on Saturday and may be more vulnerable to a West Ham goal than usual, furthering Anderson’s appeal.

Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m)

Ownership: 1.9%

While Brighton have typically struggled away from home this season, a Gameweek 9 trip to Newcastle United could be their chance to buck the trend.

Only one side has allowed more penalty box goal attempts than the Magpies in home games this season and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in front of their own fans.

For that reason, Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) could be a differential to consider. He has registered a fine balance between creativity and goal threat in the last four Gameweeks and has more shots on target than colleague Glenn Murray in that time too.

Furthermore, his role in set pieces could prove important. No team has conceded more headed attempts on goal than Newcastle in 2018/19.

Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m)

Ownership: 1.3%

No don’t worry, you haven’t accidentally stumbled across an article from 2014, we have actually tipped Daniel Sturridge (£5.8m) for potential success this week.

The Liverpool striker has made a comeback from injury this season that looks like it could be permanent at long last. More importantly, he’s been getting the job done on the pitch with two substitute Premier League goals this season and strikes also in the Champions League and EFL Cup.

With the recent fitness troubles of Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Sadio Mane (£9.8m) there is every reason that Sturridge could come into the side for the trip to Huddersfield Town.

Given he has averaged a goal every 21.5 minutes in the Premier League this season, a start in Gameweek 9 would stand him in good stead for attacking returns.

Unsure what to do with Salah, does anyone know if he plays this weekend?
In the top 4k. 2 FTs and 2.4ITB.

    Hart, Bettinelli
    Trippier, Alonso, TAA, Doherty, WB
    Hazard, Richarlson, Fraser, Knockhaert, Ward
    Aguero, Mitro, Kane

Plan was to always bring Salah back.

    A) Fraser, Kane>Salah, Arnie
    B) Fraser, Kane, Trippier>Duffy, Salah, Vardy. -4

  9. gryffsonofarthur

I'm not a fan of taking hits. However I'm looking at 4 yellow markers on my players for this week (Mane, King, Fraser and Zaha).

I have Maddison, Van Aanholt and Wan Bissaka as cover in my bench, but if all 4 are deemed unfit then I'm guatanteed a zero pointer.

Should I avoid the -4 hit and hope one or 2 of those guys are fit or take the hit and get some one in.

    I could do:

    (A) Mitrovic or Arnie for Zaha

But is Zaha the most likely to play out of those 4?

Problem is if I take the hit and Mitrovic blanks.

If you have Robertson id start Doherty. Both are equally likely to get attacking returns and cleans sheets. Doherty is more guaranteed to start and your already covering the back line with Robbo. Worse case Huddersfield score and you have two defenders with no clean sheet.

This also means im forced to Play Hennesey in goal which is unfortunate. But I was in doubt over who to pick between Fabs, Pat and Ryan in goal as a set and forget anyway. Gives me one more week to tinker.

If I transfer him out now, I wont be able to change my team next week or for a minus 4 that coud easily have happened now.
If I am lucky thats the only transfer next week, but with the minus 4, I'd have 2FTs in two weeks time, what will be useful. It's worthy of a hit by any common estimation to me.

Depends who for. If you want Arnie, you may as well wait a week imo. Also depends on the state of your team. If you think you will need at least a transfer next week then it's worth considering. If you're in the position to save next week after this hit, then maybe save this transfer for next week instead.

How to buy midfielder by selling Zaha? I know the chav should be classified as a forward, though, of course!

Oh duh. Interesting. I think it would be sensible to wait. But it's hard not to imagine Vardy popping in a goal or two against a naive Arsenal defence. Perhaps Torreira will boss Iheanacho and Maddison. I'd probably take my chances with the players I got tbh.

Thanks. In reference to your post above, I do need to make at least one transfer a week outside of replacing Zaha who I'd want to sell next week anyway

on the subject of Leicester/Chilwell, it turns out that EW was in fact talking utter shite the other day (I rewatched the Newcastle highlights to be sure 😀 ). Chilwell will be pinned back this week 😉

Sure I think average position is misleading, but does have something to say, namely....the average position. The fact remains he was stationed high up the pitch on average, but still had to track back for defensive duties. And based on what I saw in the heatmaps, Pereira actually has a bit more defense about him than Chilwell, but that could also be related to the opponent.

Certainly Chillwell won't be gung hoe against Arsenal, but might look to exploit the space that Bellerin is bound to make, which leave open the space for And attacking right player for Arsenal on a counter-counter.

It can be futile to talk about formations in cases like these. The fact is, each player ha his own role, which varies slightly from game to game, but I do think it's interesting to see that it's really not a prototypical 4-at-the-back system that we're imagining, given that the left back is very comparable in attack and defence to the right midfielder.

I suppose it's hard to know without watching the entire game, but I fail to see how Pereira could have been further back than Chilwell, on every clip I saw he wasn't even in the picture on the Newcastle chances - maybe Leicester just defended extremely deep for large parts of that game/most games waiting to counter and therefore the midfielders are just extremely deep on the heat map average - either way, it's undeniable that Pereira is OOP.

are heatmaps generated by computer/monitors or could we have a Gibbs/Chamberlain situation on our hands? Like I said, Pereira was nowhere to be seen and Amartey was definitely playing as a conventional right back (not RCB)

Amartey didn't go much farther up the pitch than the halfway line. I think you're trying to simplify it to traditional roles, but in reality each player has a role unique to him, unique to the game. As I've said, Chilwell and Perreira have similar roles as wingers with defensive duties. But in the Newcastle game, Perreira didn't track back as much because of the lopsided defence.

When he overlaps Amartey on the way back, you could call him a RB, and can Amartey a RCB. Otherwise you could call Perreira a RM and Amarty a narrow RB. It doesn't really matter. They are where they are, doing what they're doing.

Leicester were lobsided in defence, with Amartey stationed farther back. They had many more successful tackles on that side of the pitch. Wouldn't really make the highlight reel, most likely. In that particular match, Perreira's defensive half touches were bunched up farther from his own goal than Chilwell. But that's just one game 🙂 https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/19091141

I don't really 'do' heatmaps...is there a heat map for when Leicester have the ball? I can't really believe that Chilwell is as high and gets in as dangerous positions as Pereira being that it is clearly not a 343 😉 on the highlights Pereira was just as high up as Iheanacho...so when Leicester get forward and have a chance Pereira's likely to be in the box, or near, whereas Chilwell isn't - is that correct or just nonsense?

That's correct. I said the same thing in our original discussion and in the link I just sent. Typically, Perreira gets into and around the area a but more, but the difference isn't staggering on average.

Each game is different. There's a game where Perreira is all over the attacking half, almost over to the left hand side. In another, he hugs close to the touchline and barely sets foot in the penalty area. Chilwell is a bit more consistent in that he higs close to the touchline all the time except when entering the box. Fot the most part though, they are similar in all aspects, besides the rare occasion Perreira is/was given more licence to roam across midfield.

You don't believe it because youk've recently seen Newcastle highlights, but in my memory, I've only ever paid attention to seeing Chilwell in the box, so I have a bias that tells me he's very attacking (despite his defensive responsibilities). The heat maps tell us what's what, without having to rely on the highlights editor.

Sterling vs Aguero for the captaincy is very difficult

Comparison tool says sterling... but when was the last time he scored a hatrick?

What’s with Pereira @ Leics? Surprised he’s not on Watchlist given 1 goal, 3 assists. Is he not nailed?

Thinking about Trippier & Fraser >>> Pereira & Richarlison (2FT)
