How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Harry Kane

In this short series over the international break, we will be comparing some of the top premium options against their best-ever FPL campaigns.

With big fixture swings approaching in Gameweeks 15 and 16, Fantasy managers will have to make sure they are in possession of the right expensive options.

As Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams with an appealing schedule on the horizon, we have started this series with their star striker Harry Kane (£12.4m).

Kane’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2016/17 campaign when he scored 29 goals and assisted seven others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 224 points, 33 of which were registered through bonus.

The England captain gave a valiant effort in trying to follow up that career high-score in 2017/18. His 217 points last year were just seven short of the previous campaign.

So far in 2018/19, Kane has amassed 61 points at an average of 5.08 per game. If he continues at his current rate he should record a total score of 193 points, which would be the fourth-best of his FPL career.

What stats are the most important in your oppinion? Put in order:

    A) chances created
    B) % in team goals
    C) return per min
    D) number of shots
    E) number of shots on goal

      Start with goals and assists
Then look at shots and chances created
Then look at shots on target and big chances created
Then look at xG and xA

The point being that a player might have lots of points, but it might not be supported by underlying numbers so you look at those players who are performing points wise and then check that they can continue.

The underlying stats about stats is they are overrated but definitely helpful for those who don’t know much about football (i.e. those with no eye test ability and knowledge of the game)

Interesting player ownership data (Overall vs. Top5K):

    Agüero: 52% vs. 89%
    Hazard: 44% vs. 86%
    Salah: 36% vs. 76%

      Template:

      Fabianski - Hamer
      Robertson - Alonso - Mendy - Doherty - AWB
      Hazard - Salah - Richarlison - Fraser - Hjobjerg
      Aguero - Arnautovic - Wilson

9/15 - I thought my team was pretty template but evidently not as much as I thought. I also had Fabianski before he became template, which is why I've been telling everyone not to get him.

So to break into the top 5k, should i be choosing different players?

      1. jtreble

I’m not sure what conclusion to make other than the simple observation that there are massive differences in some of the players the Top 5K choose and other managers.

Best replacement for Mendy if he’s ruled out?

    A) Laporte
    B) Digne
    C) Balbuena

Rest of the defence includes Ryan/Button, Alonso, Robbo, Doherty & Awb.

    This team and 2 FTs.

    GKP: Ryan (Button)
DEF: Alonso, Doherty, Robertson (Bennett) (Wan-Bissaka)
MID: Martial, Kenedy, Hazard, Mané (Kayal)
    FWD: Vardy, Agüero, Lacazette

    Which one makes more sense:

    A) Vardy + Mane to Arnie + Sterlng
    B) Vardy + Kenedy to Arnie + Richarlison

    Thanks a lot!

Thanks! This helped clear up a few other debates too. More specific question: Laca or Sterling for December and January (no Aguero)? (Just a plan atm).

Aguero stays for me. Considering Hazard or Salah > Sterling or Dilva in a few weeks.
Dilva would enable Wilson > Lacazette
Rich stays for me right through to the new year unless bad injury.
          Leno,Digne,Bilva also on watchlist.

Guys - More likely to score points in the next 8 GWs
Lucas Moura or Harry kane? ( of course please consider the price )

I got Moura a while ago thinking he’d keep up with Kane and I was right, they both scored nothing. To answer your question I think it will be Kane.

What are your thoughts on Leno?

4.8m for a ‘top 6’ keeper seems like great value, and as he showed last week he is capable of making plenty of saves.

I know Arsenal aren’t considered the most resolute of teams, but historically they must keep a reasonable number of CS across the season - more than non top 6 sides anyway?

I have Patricio atm but might make the switch on my wildcard in a few weeks’ time. Feels like a good move for only 0.3m more!

You never know when Cech or Leno will start. Theres no no1 keeper in arsenal. Leno was only starting because Cech was injured

You can get Holding for 4.4, probably as nailed as Leno atm plus you csn rotate him.

Honestly i dont think arsenal has a set number 1 keeper. Plus Arsenal i believe have only kept 2 Clean sheets - i would steer away. for .3 lesser you can get a keeper which gets many save points

They are not really solid. Will get some odd clean sheet. Had Monreal this year. Got me one goal and one clean sheet.

nice. always been frustrated by marco silva's reputation as defensive krptonite, was fine for watford until he was forced to play a 4th or 5th string defence, let alone second string. what are you expecting from defences with wague, mariappa, zeegelaar etc? and sorry but what's he meant to do with that hull team?

now everton aren't having to play the 36 year old version of jagielka, 33 year old version of baines and holgate they've improved. obviously.
