How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Raheem Sterling

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling (£11.2m).

Sterling’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2017/18 campaign when he scored 18 goals and assisted 17 others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 229 points, 19 of which were registered through bonus.

So far in 2018/19, Sterling has amassed 79 points at an average of 6.58 per Gameweek. If he continues at his current rate he would record a total score of 250 points this season, which would be best of his FPL career thus far.

          Well I brought in Delph earlier in the season and it worked for two games but Mendy came back a lot quicker than expected.

        Feel like double city is the way to go going forward and would give me some differential in my league. Aguero offsets who everyone else has currently, Sane/Silva along with Sterling would give me differentials. I'm currently 50 back.

    Regarding the VAR introduction into PL. Huge increase in penalties at world cup with VAR.

    Tinkering around with this and my Christmas plans (from GW15) come down to:

    Sterling + Jimenez (-4).
    vs
    Kane + Hojbjerg (no hit required).

    Aguero kept in the team in both circumstances. Don't think I want to sell given form.

    RMT is so close between the two across several GWs. Bah.

        Nah - Hojbjerg would be fodder most weeks if I went for that choice, with a mixture of Fraser / AWB / Digne filling in the 11th spot in my XI.

        With the Jimenez route - he'd be more or less nailed in my 11th spot. V tricky.

    A few minor mentions of these two, can I garner some opinions on these lesser-picked types (sort of) for the coming period....

    A) Keane (4.9, 9 bonus points, outscoring Digne)
    B) Sane (9.2, expensive but explosive, Mendy out)

    Haven’t owned a Wolves defender all year. Given that I have Ederson in goal, is a healthy Doherty (and if not, Jonny/Boly/Bennett) the right move for me? (Mendy out)

    The only others I like are Digne, Laporte/Stones and to a lesser extent, Luiz, VVD and a Newcastle back

      I find diversity in defence is better. Doubling up (not including goalkeeper) may seem like a good idea when the opposition is weak, but you can be really stuck when they face a good team.

        I think Digne is pretty secure, started the last 8 PL games and has a share of set pieces. Keane does have more goal threat though, both good options tbh

    Unfortunately, I used my free FT to remove Maddison from my squad.

    Now, with Mendy out, I have two choices:
    a) Do another transfer for a - 4 hit, and therefore avoid Mendy price drop.
    b) Avoid taking a hit and use my bench during next gameweek (and accept the fact that I will probably lose 0.2 team value till I get another FT to ship out Mendy)

    Which of the two is better option?

      Key is Sigurdsson and Ings injuries, if out you would have to play AWB and -4 could be worth it to get Digne or something. If Mendy is taken out for a future plan that involves some transfers that could depend on the money maybe, but if it´s just for the sake of it, no.
