How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Raheem Sterling

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling (£11.2m).

Sterling’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2017/18 campaign when he scored 18 goals and assisted 17 others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 229 points, 19 of which were registered through bonus.

So far in 2018/19, Sterling has amassed 79 points at an average of 6.58 per Gameweek. If he continues at his current rate he would record a total score of 250 points this season, which would be best of his FPL career thus far.

      Same situation here. It's the bennett factor that has me eve considering not getting Doherty. Will be a nuisance when wolves have tough fixtures

      Digne rotates well with Wan B for a good few weeks. I am thinking him myself, he's creating a lot of chances. Doherty is a favourite on here because many already have him. That said he is the best wolves option IMO if you have bennett i do not like a double up.

        Makes sense I would have done the same if I had Ederson.

        But I do have Everton double up in midfield (Siggy & Rich) so thinking of going with City only. They only face 2 of the Top 6 in the next 12 games.

        A few gambles not paying off such as: KDB + took out aub when he starting scoring off the bench. Also took out TAA after not playing for 2 games then comes back. Wrong choices

          I'm genuinely thinking Stones because he seems to collect BPS well and has matched Laporte's score in the last 5 GW's for 0.6 less. If you have a decent 4th defender to come off the bench then you may be happy to take the additional rotational risk of Stones. The extra 0.6 will come in handy in my mid-field, I think.

        I also have Doherty, Alonso and Robbo as other defenders, so 2 Wolves defenders seems redundant (especially Bennett who I think I've started once this season). Digne feels like a nice upgrade that I may start more often or provide better bench cover.

          - Wolves defense is better than Everton's

          - If it was for starting XI, then Digne would have been fine but for backup, Bennett fits well.

          - Bennett is around 0.6 cheaper, can be used for some other purpose

          - That 1FT can be used elsewhere

            Thanks again. My logic was that I expect Stones to be rotated more than Mendy would have been, and wanted another team option if I wanted to play a back 4. Digne and Doherty rotate quite nicely except for GW 17.

          For the next one, probably. For the next two, definitely not. Long term, probably.

          On that basis, not worth losing a transfer now in my view. If you don't have bigger problems to solve, lucky you!

          Just think, having held a Wolves double up to now, why would you bin it just before they face two of the worst teams in the league in succession?

            To be honest, I tried not to consider the immediate fixtures too much, as I tend to try and make my moves to cover blocks of 4-6 GW's. My sense is that there are likely to be alot of team changes through December and I think both Stones and Digne may attract interest (and price increases) as people look for alternatives to some of the premium defenders in order to free up cash to bring in some of the pricier Spurs/Arsenal mids and forwards.

    Not seeing a lot of love for Davies or Coleman as Mendy replacements. Are people put off by their recent injuries? Davies looks like a good option to me? Coleman is perhaps a nostalgia pick as his injury woes have been rather long.

    Gives cash for Quaner to Jiminez.

      If you don't have Ederson or other city defenders, Laporte is your best option imo. Digne can come good but in the long term definitely Laporte.

    Something amazing came to my mind. Transfer Mendy to Jonny and have potential triple Wolves def for two weeks against Hud and Car. Then probably Trippier in for Jonny for Tot fixtures.

    I need help..
    Mendy has to go. Am I the only one thinking Tripier is the perfect replacement? This means using my bench, or bringing someone in for the next 2 games. Or should I be looking to downgrade Mendy anyway to a Dunk/Balbuena, and upgrade elsewhere?

        This is true, there’s a few tricky games for Bournemouth but I have loads of value in those 2. Won’t be Digne though, I don’t think I want an Everton defender until they change managers.

            I just don’t trust his teams to play defensive enough or keep many clean sheets. Digne will need more than one assist and no goals to convince me despite this.

      Trippier is the best replacement in an ideal world imo. But with Christmas around, he will probably be rotated with Aurier which is a let down for me as I already have TAA who is prone to rotation. If you are confident your bench can cover you can go for it.
