How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Sergio Aguero

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City’s talismanic striker Sergio Aguero (£11.4m).

Aguero’s best-ever FPL score came in the 2014/15 season when he scored 26 goals and assisted a further 10. His exploits in front of goal earned him the Premier League Golden Boot award.

Those figures combined for a total score of 216 points, with 27 of them coming through the bonus points system.

Having scored eight times in the first 12 Gameweeks of 2018/19, a continuation of his current strike rate, 0.67 goals per game, would see him reach 25 goals for the campaign.

That would be one short of his best-ever Premier League goal tally, but he could easily beat his personal best for assists if he keeps up his form.

Registering six in the first 12 Gameweeks of 2018/19 means Aguero is averaging 0.5 per game, setting the potential for recording 19 by next May.

Crucially, the Manchester City striker is currently recording 6.67 points per game, this season. If he continues at that rate and avoids any injuries or rotation then he could record a total score of 253 points.

That would set a new career-high FPL season tally for Aguero, a truly incredible possibility considering his rich pedigree in the game.

Definitely agree with Neo on B.

Wolves play Huddersfield next, so would play Bennett over TAA in A.

Siggy on course for 180 points, on pens, fk's and lefsided corners.
Richarlison good enough for the Brasil.. good enough for mine.
Martial in good form but too much can wrong here... Lukaku Lingard Sanchez Mourinho... too many things going on
With Bernando as soon as KDB returns Bernando is through

    Which option is favorable?

    1) Mendy & Maddison -> Laporte & Richarlison

    2) Mendy & Maddison -> Alonso & Kenedy

    3) Mendy, Maddison & Wilson -> Alonso, Richarlison & Jimenez (-4pts)

Jimenez fixtures are really appealing over the next two games, and allows me to get both Alonso and Richarlison in.

    Thoughts?

Not making the moves yet, but which of the below looks best:
    A. Mendy, Maddison, Success --> Digne, Patterson, Arnie
    B. Mendy, Maddison, Success --> Laporte, Camarasa, Arnie

    Current Squad:
    Patricio - Button
    Alonso - Robertson - Mendy* - Doherty - Zabaletta
    Salah - Hazard - Richarlison - Maddison* - Obiang
    Aguero - Wilson - Success*

Is the fixture swing of GW15 a red herring?

Arsenal have good fixtures but can you seriously replace Aguero with one of Aubameyang or Lacazette? Arnautovic still has great fixtures up to the New Year and Wilson and Jimenez doing very well for points week-in week-out.

Spurs have good fixtures but can Trippier seriously dislodge either Robertson or Alonso?

    What do you think?

I'm weary of Arsenal, would need a formation switch to include Laca as a second striker I reckon.

Kane can dislodge Aguero, Kane Laca Arnie would make sense to include Arnie too as his fixtures are really good.

Trippier can dislodge Robbo I reckon, with Alonso being a season keeper, or he can be Mendy's replacement if people still have RAM.

I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not sure whether the GW15 mythical swing is mainly being bigged up by those who still have their wildcards intact in the belief they will be rewarded handsomely for their patience.

That's certainly the hope, but the more I look at my WC draft I'm more concerned about including Man City rather than Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham.

Kane is looking sluggish since his injury in April, conjested fixtures in December are going to kill him.
Not worth the money in current form.

This is an issue I see in teams without Salah and Sterling. You have a nice bench but it probably won't make up for not having Salah.

I think the hope is that Mane can closely match Salah. I am not brave enough to try that, but I see the logic of it.

I think 9.0 would be fair for next year.

If he goes in January somehow, now that would be funny

As they have Morata and Giroud I don't think they would get another striker, unless they sell one of those.

I know Giroud has been linked to a return to Marseille, so Wilson could be the replacement.

    Ryan - Hennessey
    Alonso - Robbo - Doherty - Bennett - AWB
Salah - Hazard - David Silva - Fraser - Camarasa
    Aguero - Arnie - Wilson

    1FT - 0.6 itb

    Thoughts for my FT?

    a) Wilson -> Jimenez (Enables Doherty to Laporte)
    b) Dilva -> Martial (Enables Doherty to Laporte)
    c) Both for -4 (Enables Bennett to Laporte)
    d) Other moves?

In future would it be possible to start 2 part articles with teams from the second half of the alphabet every now and then? We always have to wait a fews days for our teams to be analysed and it would be nice to be served first every now and then.

    🙂 😉

Always find it odd that we can go years on here without seeing fans of certain clubs and then as soon as they're promoted to the Premiership they're everywhere.

    Afternoon all

This one has me in a pickle.

Bring in Jimenez and play a 343 or bring in TAA and play a 442?

Have Robbo already but double Liverpool defence could be a shrewd move.

    Thoughts?

I'd say Jiminez will outscore TAA, but not by a large amount

    This worth a -8 chaps?

Mendy, Firmino, Lamela -> Stones, Jiminez, Sterling

    Leaves me with:

    Patricio
    Robbo - Alonso - Stones
    Sterling - Hazard - Mane - Fraser
    Aguero - Arnie - Jiminez
    ________
    Hamer - Bennett - AWB - Stephens

Stones is getting overlooked, IMO he is a great alternative a baps magnet, gets the odd goal in the box from Aerial set pieces also cheap so allows to upgrade the bench for the Xmas period.

Agreed. Half a mil cheaper than Laporte and can handle rotation risk over Christmas if have 2 playing defenders on the bench
