Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for FPL Gameweek 13

Voting in the Gameweek 13 captain poll has now opened, with this weekend’s set of matches perhaps not offering one glaringly obvious candidate for the armband.

With Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) and Mohamed Salah‘s (£13.0m) home and away fixtures dovetailing nicely until this point, those who like to play it safe with their captaincy picks have had a fairly easy ride for the first three months of the season.

Manchester City and Liverpool are both away from home in the same weekend for the first time in 2018/19 however, and while West Ham United and Watford aren’t overly formidable opposition, the fixtures are potentially tricky enough to make us consider other alternatives for the captaincy.

Aguero’s indifferent form away from home is well-documented, with the Argentinean striker having registered only one attacking return (a goal at Cardiff City in Gameweek 6) in five appearances on the road this season.

What should be noted, though, is that four of those five away fixtures were against Arsenal, Wolves, Liverpool and Spurs.

Salah meanwhile is yet to register an attacking return in five appearances against the clubs currently sitting in the top half of the Premier League table but did of course score four goals against the Hornets (at Anfield) in March.

Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) and Sadio Mane (£9.9m) are two very viable armband alternatives from the two title-chasing clubs.

Sterling has featured in all five of City’s away fixtures this season and is averaging more FPL points than Aguero (4.8 versus 2.6) on the road.

Mane is doing likewise compared to Salah, averaging 5.0 points in away matches compared to the Egyptian’s 4.12.

The Senegalese midfielder has blanked in six of his last seven Premier League starts, however.

A home fixture against Cardiff City has seen Richarlison (£6.9m) take an early lead in our poll, with the Brazilian midfielder seemingly set to continue “out of position” up front against the Bluebirds and having plundered 15 points in his last home league game.

Injury doubts and yellow flags still cloud our judgement of several captaincy candidates, with Anthony Martial‘s (£7.6m) availability for the weekend still in question after he pulled out of the France squad with a thigh injury.

Martial is certainly FPL’s form player: the French midfielder has scored on six occasions and registered an assist in his last five Premier League starts.

Crystal Palace, United’s opponents this weekend, haven’t won a league match since Gameweek 5.

Glenn Murray (£6.6m) and Raul Jimenez (£5.8m) are two cut-price forwards who enjoy an appealing home fixture in Gameweek 13 and would be “sensible” differential picks in such a wide-open Gameweek, while the true mavericks among us may even be eyeing up Matt Doherty (£4.9m) – if fit – given that the league’s lowest goalscorers, Huddersfield Town, visit Molineux on Sunday.

Joe and I discuss the various captaincy options for Gameweek 13 in the video below, with our regular “Captain Sensible” members’ piece to follow later in the week.

I'll be really disappointed if Doherty doesn't recover. Got him in on WC in GW9, he blanked twice and then I benched him the last two weeks. Been looking forward to this Huddersfield fixture.

Aguero vs. Salah for away games this season

    Time played: 496 - 367
    Goals: 1 - 1
    Assists: 2 - 0
    Touches: 261 - 170
    Final third: 137 - 105
    Penalty area touches: 46 - 32
    Mins per goal: 496 - 367
    Mins per chance created: 38 - 61

Based on this Salah is my captain choice but do feel uneasy about it 🙁

    Patricio -- Foster
Alonso • Robbo • Doherty -- Schindler Awb
    Salah • Hazard • RIch • Maddison -- Camarasa
    Kun • Arnie • Ings

    some options include:
    A: Maddison + Ings >> Wally + Jimenez
    B: Maddison + Ings >> Martial + Success..and then play 442 with schindler/awb rotating
    C: Maddison + Ings >> Paterson + Murray (good 3 fix till i WC)
    D: Schindler + Maddison >> Smalling + Patterson
E: something else. happy to take a hit

      I wouldn't fancy having 2 Everton midfielders.
There is a chance Madds plays this weekend and we will know more on Friday so I'd sit tight.

It is possible to upgrade Ings to Wilson (who will be full of confidence up against a shaky Arsenal defence)
Possible Madds to Deulofeu to fund it? Or even Demarai Gray who has actually looked a threat assist and goalwise of late. I'd personally hold on till the pressers Friday though if you're unsure

I am in a genuine conundrum, please help!

    Do I:

    A. Swap Barkley for Martial
    Or
    B. Swap Hazard/Sterling for Salah?

If I upgrade to Martial (which seems the more sensible option) then that rules Salah out until after the new year when we get our FT back. Thoughts?

      Ryan/Hamer
Alonso - Robbo - Laporte (WB - Bennet)
Haz - Salah - Fraser - Felipe Anderson (Stephens)
      Kun - Wilson - Arnie

Would it be worth doing - Salah, Felipe, Wilson to Sterling, Mane, Jiminez?

Could be on WC so I can sort the bench fodder too

So you've just brought Anderson in for the run of fixtures - why ship him?

Mane is not Salah cover, he's just a 10mil player that has returned once in the last 8 GW's

        Wilson is on fire.

And all for Sterling who got benched 1st GW back for IB because he played both games and they had CL midweek - oh hang on!

Those guys who brought him in either in replace of or in addition to Kun for Southampton fair play to them but that boat sailed - it's timing

Bilva may not play this weekend due to Portugal sending him home early with a form of injury. Though Martial also has an apparent knock. I'd make the Mendy move now, and sit on your remaining FT until we here more Friday.

Scout Picks Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 13

Once again, one champion representing the community will take on the Scout Picks this week with a chance to win a prize at the end of the season!

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk by midday on Wednesday.

The champion will be selected at random at 17:00 on Wednesday and then asked to submit their XI by 10:00 on Friday.

This will require 11 picks, fitting into an 83m budget. There is no captain in the picks and the community champion must also stick to a designated FPL formation, and also must not include more than three players from a single team. Again, no chips or captaincy will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who has beaten the Scout Picks by the highest margin will receive a £100 Amazon voucher.

The weekly champion will be revealed in the midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline the Scout’s initial thinking around the choices. Our picks and the champion’s picks will be revealed, as usual, in the Scout Picks article.

Should the community champion fail to provide an appropriate squad, fitting the budget and formation constraints, an caretaker manager will be appointed to take control of the selection to represent the community for the gameweek in question.

Submit now if you’re interested for Gameweek 13.

      Good luck!

Would you do Felipe Anderson (MCI) -> Richarlison (CAR) this week, for free.

Might consider reversing the transf the week after when West Ham face NewCastle

      Hi all!
      Two things I'm mulling over:
I'm gonna swap Fraser for either Richarlison or Felipe Anderson, which would you go for?
And if it's Richarlison, would you do it this week for -4 or wait till next week?
      Cheers

        Rich because of TSB

If he hauls it could really hurt more so than Martial

Thanks. Think I’ll do Richarlison and then next week upgrade Fraser to Martial for free

      A) Bennett, Digne
      B) Bennett, Doherty
      C) Bennett, TAA ( have Robbo)
      D) Bennett, Chilwell

Digne, nice stats but is just one assist and 3 clean sheets really that impressive ?

Not to me, but may prove wrong. Just not keen on an Everton defender and don't need him for weeks with better fixtures.

Expectations shouldn't be too high, he's only 4.8, but he has good stats and is playing in an improving Everton side with some nice fixtures coming up.

Also, those 3 clean sheets have come in the last 6 games, which isn't bad at all.

Surely fantasy is about picking the players at the right time not necessarily on form.. Digne has looked good of what I have seen.. I picked Chilwell who had looked dreadful in terms of form 3 weeks ago but rewarded that faith and I chose him through the eye test.. I also think that Digne will surprise a few

I have had my eye on him for quite a few game weeks, but as a replacement for a Man City defender, as my third defender ? ... I just couldn’t see it and have stuck with Liverpool, Chelsea and City defenders

Great fourth defender if you are playing 4 at the back but many have a Wolves defender and AWB.

Just not sure how he fits in to things at that price point ?
