Watchlist Update – Kane and Spurs colleagues rise ahead of fixture swing

We have updated our Watchlist ahead of Gameweek 14 of Fantasy Premier League.

This is our tool, which can be found on the sidebar of the website, that ranks each of the best Fantasy options in each position. We use factors such as form, fixtures and value to choose the order.

There have been some big changes in midfield and attack as well as a return of some popular budget assets in defence.

Harry Kane (£12.3m) is the biggest riser among the forwards as Spurs’ fixture swing is imminent. The man himself is in form having recorded attacking returns in each of his last three outings and, in that time, his underlying statistics are finally consistently at the level we have come to expect from him. Kane will go up against Southampton, Leicester and Burnley in three of his next four matches, all of which he has scored hat-tricks against in the past. Meanwhile, his Gameweek 14 encounter sees him travel to Arsenal. He has five goals in his last six encounters with Spurs’ north London rivals.

Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) remains the top striker despite recent discoveries about his away form. The Gameweek 14 match against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium has him as a serious captain candidate this week.

It’s a double delight for owners of Crystal Palace defensive assets as Wayne Hennessey (£4.5m) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.2m) come back onto the Watchlist. Having emerged from the gauntlet of facing Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United in four consecutive Gameweeks, the Eagles now fare much better on the Season Ticker. Only two teams rank higher than them for defence over the next four Gameweeks, with Burnley (home), Brighton (away), West Ham (away) and Leicester (home) their next four opponents.

Making way for the pair are Burnley’s Joe Hart (£4.5m) and Watford’s Kiko Femenia (£4.3m). Both players have tough fixtures coming up and neither club has been adept at keeping clean sheets this year.

Liverpool’s best defensive assets Alisson (£5.7m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.5m) remain top of their respective piles on account of their solidity this season. No team has conceded fewer shots inside their penalty box in the last four Gameweeks. However, with an away match at Bournemouth in Gameweek 16 and the hosting of Manchester United in Gameweek 17, their fixtures are no longer favourable over the next four.

After the Wolves defensive duo of Rui Patrício (£4.6m) and Matt Doherty (£4.9m) let their owners down in Gameweek 13, they find themselves in a similar situation on the Watchlist. Regardless of that slip-up at home to Huddersfield, they remain in our consideration but their fixtures have also been downgraded. Trips to Cardiff and Newcastle have excellent clean sheet potential but home matches against Chelsea and Bournemouth between now and Gameweek 17 hold less hope.

There are some big changes in midfield as Leroy Sané (£9.3m) and Dele Alli (£8.9m) make their way onto the Watchlist. They come in for Sadio Mané (£9.9m) and James Maddison (£6.8m) respectively. We felt that doubling-up on a Manchester City midfield of Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) and Sané would be more effective considering the form and fixtures of Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Mané. We believe Sané’s place in the team is more secure than usual given the injury to Benjamin Mendy, but because we don’t completely trust Pep Guardiola we have given him the Rotation Risk factor, just as we have on Sterling. The fact that we are more confident over Salah’s place in the team is why he stays top of the Watchlist for now.

Alli comes into consideration with Spurs’ aforementioned fixture swing, amid competition for a place from Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min. We felt that the South Korean’s place in the Spurs’ side was not as settled as we’d like, even if he is a much more attractive price. Also, Eriksen may have starred against Chelsea but that was without Kieran Trippier in the side, who has assumed many of the Danish international’s set-piece duties this season. If the right-back is back for this nice run then it would be hard to predict Eriksen to match his creativity levels from that win over Chelsea. Meanwhile, Alli has outperformed Eriksen for minutes per touch in the box, minutes per goal attempt in that area and minutes per shot on target this season.

Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) has been declared fit for Gameweek 14 so he gets to stick around as the second-most important FPL forward.

Decent team. Not sure I’d want Jiménez. At that price point where it just causes constant headaches. I’d go Success and bench it more expensive if possible

Well you haven’t got long to save the FT as the following Gameweek starts this Tuesday so may be worth the wait and then at least you have 2 FT’s to make a difference.

Just can’t see it myself. With going off the boil a bit recently he will want to get a goal against a lesser side to gain confidence. He’s had a rest this week knowing that he has 3 games in a week.

    Fernandez, Kiko, Balbuena, AWB, Bennett,
    Hazard, Sane, Salah, Rich, Sterling,
    Arnie, Zaha, Mitrovic

They are starters so allows for changes over xmas and most of the budget defence have a decent fixture list, or am I trying to talk myself into it?

I think it’s very different - pre-Burnley Sarri was the best thing since sliced bread, whereas now they have just been dicked on in a derby, with another derby to follow against a new manager bounce team, with the worst defence in the league - not a sceanario you want to unexpectedly draw or lose.

If anything, Haz might be taken off earlier if Chelsea have the game wrapped up, but even then they’d need to be a good 3 goals up by which time he’ll have done some damage.

They can’t afford not to start him imo

I’d say if Sarri is worth half of his salary he’ll have been drilling them all week that what happened at Spurs was simply not acceptable & he’ll be DEMANDING a backlash v Fulham - genuinely think Haz has a great chance of a haul.

The mass selloff only makes it an even higher upside scenario.

    Which FT?

    Hennessey,
    Alonso, Robertson, Doherty
    Hazard, Salah, Fraser, Richarlison
    Aguero (c), Wilson, Arnie

    Subs: Patricio, AWB, Højbjerg, Bennett

    0.9 in the bank

Torn whether to hold or take a -4 to do the obvious City mid switcheroo. Was planning a WC either GW15 or GW16

    1FT £0.5itb

    Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, Laporte, Doherty
    Salah, Haz, Martial, Fraser
    Kun (C), Wilson

    (Foster) (Duffy, Diangana, Success)

If I play my WC next week then it doesn't make sense to roll the FT as one will be wasted

Really not sure what to do - advice appreciated!

    Cheers

I'm thinking of these two possible moves that allow me to retain Salah and Haz:

        A) Martial, Laporte > Sané, Schindler/ AWB (-4)
        B) Fraser, Laporte > F.Anderson, TAA (-4)

        Either of those appeal?

Just had a look at the dream team for this year so far and Liverpool have the most players from a single team. Kind of surprised because I was convinced city would have more with the amount of goals they score.

    What would you do?

I'm all set on my Wildcard 0.0 itb, but with a few players looking like going up in price tonight I'm going to be priced out of it.

Go a week earlier than planned or hold and find a downgrade which I'm really struggling to do

Maybe if your not keen on any wildcard player for this gw you could choose a cheaper alternative leaving cash itb for the move next gw

I’m sure your mind will change after the weekend anyway.

Just like most people on here wouldn’t consider Sane last week but thought Martial was the bees knees. Only takes a GW for opinions on some players to change or for injuries to occur.

Which is considered as Brighton's second keeper behind Ryan? Button or Steele?
I am looking to play Fabianski during Christmas but I want a 4.0 keeper in my Wildcard. I think Ryan will leave at the beginning of the year to play in the Asian cup for Australia, am I right?

                Thanks Pockets!

Think in seasons to come FPL will have to try and think about how they price City rotation players etc more - Im sure Bayerns players in the Bundesliga are all alot of money in their fantasy game to reflect thier dominance. We should probably take advantage whilst we still can!

                1. MTPockets
                    5 years, 4 months ago

Yep. Went for a more rounded squad early on but taken me a while to wake up to e.g. City just scoring so many goals the occasional rotation doesn't matter like it used to. In the process of (slowly) re-jigging my team...

You also made a good point about defender pricing. Don't know how they easily address that without a lot of grumbling, but you're right that many mispriced given the way teams are increasingly set up.
