Fantasy Premier League managers have gone Manchester City mad ahead of Gameweek 14, especially with the captaincy.

Several of their options featured prominently in our latest captain poll as we work out which player should shoulder the responsibility of thr armband this weekend.

As per usual, we’ve analysed the results of the vote before delving deeper into the personal statistics of individual candidates and assessing their own teams and oppositions too…

Captain Poll

Another home match for Manchester City, another Gameweek where Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) is set to win the captain poll. The Argentinian striker, at time of writing, has 32.% of the vote ahead of an appealing home match against Bournemouth. Aguero is averaging 9.57 points per game at the Etihad Stadium this season and he is yet to miss a match too.

That’s more than can be said for team-mate Raheem Sterling (£11.4m). The England international was benched for big home wins in Gameweek 2 and 9, which is almost certainly why he remains below Aguero in the vote despite out-scoring him by 95 FPL points to 82 so far this season. Although he has more backing than ever before in 2018/19 with a 24% share of the vote.

Fulham’s visit to Chelsea has those still in possession of Eden Hazard (£11.1m) hopeful that he can deliver in Gameweek 14. He looks set to clinch a third-place finish in this week’s captain poll with 19% backing despite going five Gameweeks without scoring more than four points.

The fact that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is taking part in a derby match with Liverpool, as Everton come to Anfield, appears to have been left out of mainstream consideration accordingly. The Egyptian is currently vying with Leroy Sané (£9.3m) for fourth place, who is just behind his 4.8% share with 4.4%. That’s a reminder that the devastating form of Manchester City is another reason why Salah is not getting much of a look-in for Gameweek 14.

Matt Doherty (£4.9m) is the king of the differentials for this weekend. He’s got 1.82% backing ahead of Wolves’ trip to Cardiff City where his owners will be hoping for returns at both ends of the pitch.

Harry Kane‘s (£12.3m) scoring record against Arsenal, five in six matches, is not enough to convince large numbers of Fantasy managers to captain him this week. Just 1.6% have backed him so far, although we expect that figure to be higher for Gameweek 15 after a predicted high number of transfers in for a home match against Southampton.

David Silva (£8.7m) is the only other option over 1% in the current standings.

To be worse than Soton you ought to be playing the Championship and not in the Champions League. Easy 2-0 win to United but Trollkaku may be the one fluking the goals in.

I don't agree. How many of those Young Boys players would get into a PL team?

Just because you're the best team in your own country doesn't mean you're better than an average team in one of the top leagues in the world.

          Best example - Celtic.

It's so obvious clear you're just going by the team name. Have you seen the swiss league table? Do you know how many matches Southampton have won this year in a league that includes runaway leaders like Huddersfield, Burnley, Cardiff, Fulham, West Ham. The answer is all of them will get into any of these teams.

Well honestly I've not watched any Swiss league games, not only this season, but never.
I've also never watched any games from the Bulgarian super league, or the Austrian league...the main reason being is that the standard of those leagues is far inferior to the English Championship. That's a fact by the way. FIFA tier the quality of a league, and in Europe the Championship is ranked 6th (I believe) after PL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue1, and Ere division.

Yes, Southampton have been poor, but they are better, in terms of quality, than Young Boys.

https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method5/trank2018.html. Look at 2017 also if you want.

Sorry to break your heart about the quality of the English league, but it's really rubbish. The Swiss qualify for the Euros and World cup year after year from Europe, not Asia or wherever. You cannot have a team that qualifies from Europe so consistently, if their league is rubbish. It just doesn't work that way. I'm sorry, if Man City wipes the floor with these teams 5-0, 6-0 on a regular basis, then it's time to judge this crap the same way the bottom teams from La Liga are judged.

You're now talking about international football, which isn't really too relevant, how many of the Swiss national team stay in their domestic league? Certainly not their best players, Shaqiri, Alaba, Rodriguez, Xhaka.

Coming back to my original point, just because a team is playing champions league football doesn't make them automatically better than any other team not playing in the Champions leagues, simply because the standard of the leagues you need to win in order to qualify varies in different countries.

The Swiss league is ranked 12th in Europe, which means there are 11 better leagues, the English Championship being one of them.

I mean, this is an unnecessary argument. You brought up Fifa tiers and ratings, and I linked you to a Uefa table that clearly shows Young Boys above Southampton.

You can dismiss it all you want, but you've got to trust the level and standard of a European competition. I mean there is a second tier Europa league too, so it's not like these teams get to play in whatever competition they want. Need any reminding on what Burnley did in the Europa league? You've got to be pretty arrogant about the quality of the English league if you choose to ignore their Europa debacle, yet continue to hold the view that Burnley or Southampton, for example, are better than certain Champions League clubs. I mean there is just no ground for that kinda argument.

I brought up ratings to counter what you said about any team worse than Southampton should be playing in the Championship, whereas in fact the Championship is of a higher standard than a lot of top domestic european leagues - who will have teams represented in the CL.

I do take your point about Burnley, and others before them, performing poorly in the Europa league compared to their fellow mid-table opponents from other european leagues.

                      Thanks for a pleasant debate.
Perhaps we can close it with this question, genuinely where do you think Young Boys would finish with this current team in a full PL season?

Obviously they wouldn't have the 10 point lead they currently enjoy in the Swiss league.

                      Top 4 - honestly I don't think they're better than Chelsea/Tottenham/Liverpool

Top 6 - I don't think they're better than Arsenal, and they lost home and away to United already.

Top half? (better than Everton, Wolves)

                      Between mid table, and relegation?

                      Relegated?

                      1. fedolefan

Honestly, I see all of the premier league teams outside top half (may be even outside top 8) as equal. Any of them could get relegated with a slightly rough patch. I don't know how to guess to be honest. Given the Europa struggles from teams outside top 6, I'd think they can finish anywhere 7-20, but I gave them more leeway because they play in the Champs League. So 7-10 would be my guess.

It's been somewhat of a rotational policy though hasn't it, didn't Wilson miss one earlier in the season, and then King took over, but Wilson scored one a couple of weeks back whilst King was injured?

    OUT:
    Lacazette, Ings, Richarlison

    IN
    Arrnautovic

    Possible INS
    Morata, Giroud, Sane, Zaha, Vardy

my initial thoughts are Lacazatte & Richarlison OUT for Arnautovic & Sane which means keeping INGs on bench.

My only issue with Silva is that when he scores ( and he seems to be scoring quite early in games) he then seems to sit back and sink into the shadows. I was at West Ham last week and watched it happen again, whilst Sané was Omni-present.

Do you have to use WC before end of Dec, or can it roll into 2019? I usually use it in first few months so never been in this position before !

Which of these 2 would you be looking to own from next GW?
WC in hand so can afford to take a risk or 2 as well.
    Sterling/Rich my other 2 mids.

    1. Salah.
    2. Hazard.

    4. Eriksen/Alli/Son.

It looks a pick 3 from 5 scenario (Haz, Salah, Kun, Sterling, Kane)

Trying to Hokey Cokey between them & time their returns could be difficult

      1. Dynamic Duos
        • 12 Years

        You don't like Aubameyang?

      2. Auba/laca have to be on this list with Arsenal fixtures from GW16

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 15 Years
          7 years, 9 days ago

I wouldn’t really have them in the same bracket as the big 5 - good players of course, but they’re in along with Sané, Dilva, Martial etc for me.

Auba has 6 blanks in 13 games for example, including home games v WHAM, WAT, WOL so his good fixtures won’t guarantee returns. Laca same but possibly a bit better value than Auba if he has pens and stays fit.

I think you can of course have four, but v difficult while keeping Robbo, Alonso, and a city Def/GK

            • 11 Years
            7 years, 9 days ago

Yeah for sure, I meant having four whilst still keeping a relatively decent team.
Having either Kane, or Salah will have a big impact on the overall team.

    Hi guys, confused a little,

    1. Richarlison+Fraser>>Sane+Diangana for -4?
    2. Hazard+Richarlison>>Sterling+Felipe anderson for -4?

Which of the two should i go for, or none, or what else? team looks like:

    Henessey/Foster
    Holebas/TAA/Laporte/Wan bissaka/Doherty
    Mane/Hazard/Richarlison/Fraser/Martial
    Aguero/Mitrovic/Arnautovic

    plsss help...!!

      for me choose none..
if u insisted to get a MCI midfielder, probably A

      if you choose none,
play 4-4-2, bench holebas, fraser, mitrovic

    Two questions:

    1. When are the press conferences?
    2. If you still haven’t used your WC, when are you planning on using it?
