Captains

Captain Sensible – Aguero and Sterling the Gameweek 14 favourites

Fantasy Premier League managers have gone Manchester City mad ahead of Gameweek 14, especially with the captaincy.

Several of their options featured prominently in our latest captain poll as we work out which player should shoulder the responsibility of thr armband this weekend.

As per usual, we’ve analysed the results of the vote before delving deeper into the personal statistics of individual candidates and assessing their own teams and oppositions too…

Captain Poll

Another home match for Manchester City, another Gameweek where Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) is set to win the captain poll. The Argentinian striker, at time of writing, has 32.% of the vote ahead of an appealing home match against Bournemouth. Aguero is averaging 9.57 points per game at the Etihad Stadium this season and he is yet to miss a match too.

That’s more than can be said for team-mate Raheem Sterling (£11.4m). The England international was benched for big home wins in Gameweek 2 and 9, which is almost certainly why he remains below Aguero in the vote despite out-scoring him by 95 FPL points to 82 so far this season. Although he has more backing than ever before in 2018/19 with a 24% share of the vote.

Fulham’s visit to Chelsea has those still in possession of Eden Hazard (£11.1m) hopeful that he can deliver in Gameweek 14. He looks set to clinch a third-place finish in this week’s captain poll with 19% backing despite going five Gameweeks without scoring more than four points.

The fact that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is taking part in a derby match with Liverpool, as Everton come to Anfield, appears to have been left out of mainstream consideration accordingly. The Egyptian is currently vying with Leroy Sané (£9.3m) for fourth place, who is just behind his 4.8% share with 4.4%. That’s a reminder that the devastating form of Manchester City is another reason why Salah is not getting much of a look-in for Gameweek 14.

Matt Doherty (£4.9m) is the king of the differentials for this weekend. He’s got 1.82% backing ahead of Wolves’ trip to Cardiff City where his owners will be hoping for returns at both ends of the pitch.

Harry Kane‘s (£12.3m) scoring record against Arsenal, five in six matches, is not enough to convince large numbers of Fantasy managers to captain him this week. Just 1.6% have backed him so far, although we expect that figure to be higher for Gameweek 15 after a predicted high number of transfers in for a home match against Southampton.

David Silva (£8.7m) is the only other option over 1% in the current standings.

Anyone know if Hazard has trained at all this week? Normally a good indication as to whether a player is fit or not

Just to check. Does anyone know for sure if saves are counted for shots OFF target?

Opta states "A goalkeeper preventing the ball from entering the goal with any part of his body when facing an intentional attempt from an opposition player."

Which suggests that a save is a save so long as the keeper connects with the ball after a goal attempt, even if it's not heading into the net. It also suggests that deflected crosses cannot be saved, and leaves open a grey areas for deflected shots, particularly if the shot is off target and/or takes more than one deflection (where at some point the course of the ball is heading wide).

Or did they miss neglect to use the words "on target" in the definition?
