Captains

Vote in the Gameweek 15 captain poll

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool options are expected to all receive heavy backing in the Gameweek 15 captain poll.

You can now vote in that at the bottom of this article or on the sidebar of our website.

Defending champions Man City are away at Watford where they have scored 11 goals in their last two visits. Which of their assets emerges as the most popular captain choice could be dictated by team selection more than anything else.

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m), who missed the Gameweek 14 win over Bournemouth through injury, has scored five goals in his last two visits to Vicarage Road. Whether he will play in the match remains to be seen and all eyes will be on Pep Guardiola’s next press conference.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) is in scintillating form with four goals and four assists since Gameweek 11 and his ownership has ballooned to 18.5%. That should ensure he has plenty of support in the poll, but it will be interesting to see what impact his rotation risk could have. Such a quick turnaround between the Bournemouth and Watford matches could be just the justification Pep Guardiola needs to rest Sterling.

Leroy Sané (£9.4m) could also feature heavily considering his role in the Man City side. The recent injury to Benjamin Mendy has boosted his chances of starting matches so he may well retain his place. He has three goals and four assists in his last four appearances.

Alternatively, David Silva (£8.7m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) could prove interesting captain choices for those that own them. The fact that neither of them started against Bournemouth implies that they will be on the team sheet against Watford.

The uncertainty around Manchester City’s selection policy could be the reason that Harry Kane (£12.4m) receives a healthy share of this upcoming vote. There are no such concerns about rotation with the England captain and he now has a goal or an assist in each of his last four matches. He faces a Southampton defence that has averaged 2.29 goals conceded per away match this season.

Perhaps with the best fixtures match-up is Liverpool as they travel to test themselves against the 2018/19 whipping boys. Burnley have allowed more shots than any other side in the Premier League this season, even conceding a whopping 29 in their 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. Such numbers mean that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) will receive some consideration.

Just watched the Liverpool v Everton highlights. Wow what a pass Fromm Sigurdson first half. Such a quality player.

Also, Mane had soooo many chances! He is going to match Salah this season I reckon or at least finish very close to him on fpl points.

I don't get this Logic there is 6 points between both players.
In the last game both scored the same the last day.

          Salah has 'blanked' 6 times
Mane (who played a game less) has 'blanked' 8 times.

There is a bit of confirmation bias going on there.

Excellent team! I'm personally going for Kane but I don't own Salah. Just think if you're bringing in Kane for this festive period you have to captain him.

Delighted with 79 and a good week last week too, but had some horrendous scores previously so it's a gradual return to form, I hope anyway! You?

This coming GW is season-defining I think. What do people do with assets who have lost form and/or security of starts, and how do we plan for some pretty major fixture swings. There are going to be a lot of hits this week I think!

    Ryan
    Alonso • Robbo • Digne • Awb
    Sterling • Hazard • Sane • Siggy
    Aguero • Arnie

    (Button / Diangana / Doherty/ Kamara)

Hazard & Aguero to Son & Kane (-4) worth it?
Not feeling Alli/Eriksen feel Son can match or even do better than them.

These moves also give 1.9m itb to upgrade Diangana in the coming weeks.

    Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

I too like Son as a pick too.

As one of the trident behind Kane he's likely to get less mins than Alli, for example.

But seeing as Poch trusts Lorrente like any Theresa May trust a foreigner, I can see Son getting mins as a false 9 over the xmas congestion.

Alli & Eriksen just not showing enough goal threat this season. Son is taking triple the goal attempts they both have over past 2 game weeks. If Eriksen gives away set pieces again to Trippier his assist potential will drop considerably.

Son is cheaper too so if it fails it wont hurt much.

As above I'm so slow to move on haz and aguero... both can do wreck. If fit. Haz meant to have been lively at the weekend aswell

I cant see Aguero starting midweek honestly he's too imp for the Chelsea game. And I cant see myself capping Haz for the foreseeable future.

As u can switch hazard to anyone the following week and switch formation to get auba/laca but son is a tricky pricepoint and can be rotated midweek so slight danger

It would but im not confident about TAA starting week in week out. Also it doesnt give enough money to upgrade Diangana. Not the happiest to sell Hazard but it was the same 2 days ago with Salah. I cant see myself considering Haz for the armband before GW21.

Even as an AWB owner im confused as to why people are starting him away to a Brighton side who haven't failed to score at home all season. Am i missing some appauling underlying stats or something?

    1. diesel001
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 4 months ago

They don't have better options. Don't want to play Doherty vs CHE or some crappy 4.5m midfielder like Hojbjerg.

      1. Eytexi

Surely Doherty's attacking stats outweigh AWB's clean sheet potential?

Palace kept a CS against Utd away. Why can't they keep a CS against Brighton? Doherty likely to concede, and he won't score every week.

I'm currently starting him over jiminez ATM which seems wrong. It's not stat based for me but how palace play against lower teams and defend well. But your right it doesn't scream clean sheet as Brighton play very well at home and it's a bit of a fortress for them. Who would you be benching him for?

They’ve only scored 9 in 6 games though, plus fatigue to consider, whilst Palace’s away defensive record is good, have conceded less away than Spurs, Arsenal and Man U.

Long term hazard for me. He just seems to be so difficult to predict his scoring. I have no doubt he will get a big haul at some point but very difficult to predict it. You can argue salah though as he is scoring more consistently but no where near explosive enough at that price. I have salah and was going to swap for sterling this week but just can't justify getting rid of salah before the worst defence in the league. I actually think salah has more chance playing away to Burnley as they will not be parking the bus like they would at anfield.

Pep is up around 1:30pm, but he had this to say on Aguero. “I don’t know [if he'll be fit for Tuesday]. Right now, I’m not quite sure. Day-by-day we see. I speak with doctors every day, they make a report and a briefing. They say ‘ready’ or ‘not ready’ and we decide.”

            LOL...

Was replying to Diesel as find the "protect my OR" comments interesting - ownership of Kane in top 10K is virtually zero, so even with "high captaincy rate" it won't register on the average team score hence little protection IMHO...

Unless you know how to check how many of the 115K transfers in are in the top 10K?
