Arnautovic injury opens door for more striker changes

An injury to Marko Arnautovic may cause further widespread changes among Fantasy Premier League squads.

His owners will be sweating on a hamstring problem in the coming days and will have their eyes on alternatives already.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Felipe Anderson owners as a host of differential options helped West Ham to their latest win.

West Ham United 3-1 Cardiff City

Goals: Lucas Perez x2 (£6.2m), Michail Antonio (£6.8m) | Josh Murphy

Assists: Robert Snodgrass x2 (£5.3m), Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m) | Sean Morrison (£4.7m)

Marko Arnautovic (£7.2m) could be the next player to leave the Fantasy Premier League template after he was taken off injured in West Ham’s win over Cardiff. The Austrian forward went down clutching his hamstring and it seems unlikely he will feature too much over the Christmas period. The return to fitness of Andy Carroll (£5.4m) as well as the form of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.2m) and Lucas Perez (£6.2m) mean that Manuel Pellegrini has plenty of options to replace him. If he is set for some time on the sidelines, the popularity of Callum Wilson (£6.9m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.6m) should rise accordingly.

“It is a hamstring injury, we will see tomorrow.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Also stepping up as a potential alternative option at West Ham was Robert Snodgrass (£5.3m) who recorded two assists in the win. Since returning from suspension in Gameweek 14 he has started two matches in a row while Grady Diangana (£4.5m) has featured for just 14 minutes. The Scottish international was also subbed after 75 minutes at the London Stadium suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to use him again in Gameweek 16. Snodgrass’ two assists were a delivery on the creative promise he’s shown this season. In the last four Gameweeks, he had created more chances than Felipe Anderson (£7.1m), who came out of the 3-1 win with just two points.

The only reason that Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) did not get his first home clean since Gameweek 6 was because of a scrappy late Cardiff City goal. The Bluebirds had not particularly threatened in the match and the Hammers were certainly on course for a well-deserved shut-out. In contentious circumstances, Josh Murphy (£4.8m) bundled the ball over the line deep into stoppage time with Fabianski obstructed from being able to make a save. However, his owners will still be content with his first-half penalty save and eight-point haul.

Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) missed out on the match with his recent injury problems. He was considered a doubt for the encounter but was fit enough for the bench, although he did not come on.

Michail Antonio (£6.8m) got his first goal of the season, a header from one of Snodgrass’ corners. It was an impressive display from him but Fantasy managers looking at West Ham options should probably exercise caution. The midfielder was deployed at right-back, not for the first time in his Hammers’ career, allowing first-choice Pablo Zabaleta (£4.3m) could have a rest. With Ryan Fredericks (£4.6m) still out injured, Antonio may well be the preferred alternative to Zabaleta at right-back during this busy period where rotation will be rife.

Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere (£4.8m) was entirely absent from the matchday squad having sustained a minor pain in his ankle.

“Jack (Wilshere) has a small pain in his ankle, not the one he injured before. If he is not 100 per cent then I was not going to select him.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Joe Ralls (£4.7m) announced himself as Cardiff City’s penalty taker but his time in that position may be short-lived after seeing his poor effort saved.

It was a poor night for Cardiff and their Fantasy options. A number of them are still playing out-of-position, so to speak with Callum Paterson (£5.3m) the centre-forward once again and Victor Camarasa (£4.6m) deployed on the right flank of the attack.

Murphy has now featured only as a substitute in two of his last three matches while, as we already mentioned, the circumstances of his headed goal were fortuitous at best.

West Ham XI (4-4-2): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Diop, Antonio; F Anderson, Rice, Noble, Snodgrass (Diangana 75′); Arnautovic (L Perez 40′), Chicharito (Carroll 64′).

Cardiff XI (4-1-4-1): Etheridge; Bennett, Bamba, Morrison, Ecuele Manga; Gunnarsson; Hoilett (Murphy 64′), Arter, Ralls (Mendez-Laing 64′), Camarasa; Paterson (Harris 73′).

Personally no, I want more from my most expensive player, playing at home against one of the worst teams in the league who will have Kelvin Davis in the dugout.

7 points now or gamble for what could be a cameo or injury or blank or 5 pointer or sure double digits... I’d rather not risk the 14 pointers from a captain

I'm not convinced. Sokratis, Mustafi and now Koscielny and Mavropanos fighting for places. It helps when they play 3 at the back, but I'm not sure they will long term.

Arsenal fan here, Laca is much better value. They will get equal minutes over the xmas period.

Laca is still first choice #9. And Emery is playing 3-5-2 / 3-4-3 now so they will both play the majority

Good post - can you see Emery sticking with 3 at the back long term? It's only the last couple of PL matches he's used the system right?

Hes a very tactical manager so will only play that system when it suits, so i do expect it to change around.

But it fits our players right now due to Kolasinac and Bellerin being better wingbacks than fullbacks and providing that width as we have no natural wingers in the team. Which allows us to play Auba/Laca/Ozil/Rambo in a more central position

If they both start today I will be convinced that they both are equally nailed.

Don’t think dropping Laca for Iwobi/Mkhi add anything to the Arsenal attack.

They are much better off with Auba-Laca playing upfron. They seem to have good chemistry as well on & off the pitch.

What's the mood like in the community today. I'm happy enough with last night with Sane and Fabianksi getting me 16 pts. Kane (c) and the rest to come so hopefully an exciting evening ahead.

Arnie's duckegg and injury is a blow though. Looks like my first -4 hit of the season is coming this weekend as one of Laca/Aubam has to come in with those fixtures and the other 7m FW;s fixtures sucking b*lls

I think so too. I'm normally part of the anti hit brigade as it tends to go against me but in this case, Arnies injury is forcing my hand and Arsenal fixtures and form is too good to pass up.

I also have Sane and Fab which I’m happy enough with although Cardiff’s late goal was a real kick in the nuts.

I brought in Felipe, and while I’m still happy to have him moving forward it was a shame he didn’t get any returns from 6 goals.

Hoping Auba, Salah and Kane(c) do the business tonight.

Kane (C) i'm excited about but have gotten burned by him last season. Aubam is who i'm gonna get in this GW. Just a shame i've missed out on the 3 price rises in 3 days. I'll have to downgrade Salah to fund Arnie to Aubam so money isnt the issue but still

Mitro is a troll just cause he is in the same price bracket as Arnie does not make him an option or the fact that he has nice fixtures.
If you want to get him be prepared for 6-10 blanks followed by a brace, repeat. But jump on board hey 🙂

I think if Ranieri gets them up and running then he could be great, if they do well so will he. His poor run recently coincided with Fulham's.

He’s a good option imo. Think Fulham just started conceding too much and lost their way with the previous manager.

He was shooting as much as Aguero first few weeks and was very good value for money.

Is Felipe Anderson worth 2m more than Snodgrass?

Snodgrass usually takes majority of the corners/fks when on the pitch.
He’s also creating more chances than Anderson.
Anderson has better goal threat compared to Snoddy but when you compare him to Siggy/Rich he’s way behind.

            Should i Trade arnauto?
Am thinking of Wilson Or Mitro.
Leaning towards mitro because of fixtures. Thoughts?

Agree that Mitro has the better midterm fixtures. He'll likely be my Arnie replacement.

Auba most tempting. Depends on how you spend the savings from Laca.

Hazard and Arnie to Anderson and laca for free
            Or
Salah, Arnie and Wilson to Auba, Laca and Anderson -4

Looking at similar. Hazard poor form, average fixtures, and likelihood of rest over Xmas schedule makes it possibly a good idea. Worried Auba/Laca will also rotate though.

            Arnie out - Arsenal in.

Considering Laca instead of Auba, to have some flexibility in coming weeks. With Auba, it looks like I might want to let Alonso go, to keep up with midfield targets (Sanè, Alli etc.).

            Simply put:
            A) Trippier + Auba
            B) Alonso + Laca

A or Trip and Laca and use rest somewhere else.

So in other words, Alonso -> Trip is a good thing? 🙂

With upcoming fixtures plus current form does this make sense:

Hazard (MCI) + Arnie (Injured) to Anderson (CRY) + Auba (HUD) -4?

            Or Arnie to Wilson. Thx
