Arnautovic injury opens door for more striker changes

An injury to Marko Arnautovic may cause further widespread changes among Fantasy Premier League squads.

His owners will be sweating on a hamstring problem in the coming days and will have their eyes on alternatives already.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Felipe Anderson owners as a host of differential options helped West Ham to their latest win.

West Ham United 3-1 Cardiff City

Goals: Lucas Perez x2 (£6.2m), Michail Antonio (£6.8m) | Josh Murphy

Assists: Robert Snodgrass x2 (£5.3m), Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m) | Sean Morrison (£4.7m)

Marko Arnautovic (£7.2m) could be the next player to leave the Fantasy Premier League template after he was taken off injured in West Ham’s win over Cardiff. The Austrian forward went down clutching his hamstring and it seems unlikely he will feature too much over the Christmas period. The return to fitness of Andy Carroll (£5.4m) as well as the form of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.2m) and Lucas Perez (£6.2m) mean that Manuel Pellegrini has plenty of options to replace him. If he is set for some time on the sidelines, the popularity of Callum Wilson (£6.9m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.6m) should rise accordingly.

“It is a hamstring injury, we will see tomorrow.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Also stepping up as a potential alternative option at West Ham was Robert Snodgrass (£5.3m) who recorded two assists in the win. Since returning from suspension in Gameweek 14 he has started two matches in a row while Grady Diangana (£4.5m) has featured for just 14 minutes. The Scottish international was also subbed after 75 minutes at the London Stadium suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to use him again in Gameweek 16. Snodgrass’ two assists were a delivery on the creative promise he’s shown this season. In the last four Gameweeks, he had created more chances than Felipe Anderson (£7.1m), who came out of the 3-1 win with just two points.

The only reason that Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) did not get his first home clean since Gameweek 6 was because of a scrappy late Cardiff City goal. The Bluebirds had not particularly threatened in the match and the Hammers were certainly on course for a well-deserved shut-out. In contentious circumstances, Josh Murphy (£4.8m) bundled the ball over the line deep into stoppage time with Fabianski obstructed from being able to make a save. However, his owners will still be content with his first-half penalty save and eight-point haul.

Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) missed out on the match with his recent injury problems. He was considered a doubt for the encounter but was fit enough for the bench, although he did not come on.

Michail Antonio (£6.8m) got his first goal of the season, a header from one of Snodgrass’ corners. It was an impressive display from him but Fantasy managers looking at West Ham options should probably exercise caution. The midfielder was deployed at right-back, not for the first time in his Hammers’ career, allowing first-choice Pablo Zabaleta (£4.3m) could have a rest. With Ryan Fredericks (£4.6m) still out injured, Antonio may well be the preferred alternative to Zabaleta at right-back during this busy period where rotation will be rife.

Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere (£4.8m) was entirely absent from the matchday squad having sustained a minor pain in his ankle.

“Jack (Wilshere) has a small pain in his ankle, not the one he injured before. If he is not 100 per cent then I was not going to select him.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Joe Ralls (£4.7m) announced himself as Cardiff City’s penalty taker but his time in that position may be short-lived after seeing his poor effort saved.

It was a poor night for Cardiff and their Fantasy options. A number of them are still playing out-of-position, so to speak with Callum Paterson (£5.3m) the centre-forward once again and Victor Camarasa (£4.6m) deployed on the right flank of the attack.

Murphy has now featured only as a substitute in two of his last three matches while, as we already mentioned, the circumstances of his headed goal were fortuitous at best.

West Ham XI (4-4-2): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Diop, Antonio; F Anderson, Rice, Noble, Snodgrass (Diangana 75′); Arnautovic (L Perez 40′), Chicharito (Carroll 64′).

Cardiff XI (4-1-4-1): Etheridge; Bennett, Bamba, Morrison, Ecuele Manga; Gunnarsson; Hoilett (Murphy 64′), Arter, Ralls (Mendez-Laing 64′), Camarasa; Paterson (Harris 73′).

Anyone else doing the MOTD challenge tonight?

It's when you wait until MOTD to find out what the scores are.

Used to love doing this as a kid. (37 now) Probably up to mid 20's as it became impossible to avoid the scores without real effort of shutting the world out. Go for it mate and enjoy 😀

    Afternoon all

Currently tinkering with drafts of my WC (finally!) and sitting on this at the moment:

    £0itb
    Fab
    Alonso, TAA, Digne
    Sterling, Sané, FAnderson, Fraser
    Kane, Auba, Wilson

    (Hamer) (Gunnarsson, AWB, Peltier)

For obvious reasons I'm not totally happy - Peltier being the main one. Where would you shift cash around to improve? I have a lot of value tied up in Wilson and Fraser so would rather not lose them.

    Auba to Laca? Alonso to?

    Advice appreciated!

I had the same issue and went for Trippier. With his fixtures he can outscore Alonso easily. Made 1+4 until injured.peltier-> schindler who rotates nicely with digne

Thoughts on WC? New players in caps 🙂

    Kepa / Hamer
    TAA - BELLERIN - Laporte - AWB
    SANE - SON - FANDERSON - Richarlison - Stephens
    Auba - KANE - Wilson

I will monitor games tonight and see if i need to adjust something.

      1. MGD
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

        3 reasons really:
        1. Since both Sane and Sterling will be rotation risks i'd prefer Sane and 2M.
        2. I prefer Sane until Mendy is back
        3. Allows me to get Kane without making the rest look real poor.

  4. Karan14
    • 7 Years

    Ryan
    Alonso • Diop • Digne • Doherty
    Sterling • Hazard • Sane • Siggy
    Kane • Arnie*

    (Button / Diangana / Awb / Kamara)
    1FT & 1.6m

    A) Haz & Arnie ➡️ Snodgrass & Auba (-4)
    B) Haz & Arnie ➡️ F.Anderson & Laca (-4)

Both these moves leave me with enough money to get one of Mitro/Wilson for Kamara GW17 onwards.
Or would you get one of them in this week & forget Auba/Laca?

    Cheers! 🙂

That's not a huge amount of time to make a conclusive verdict on someone. And he took a while to get regular time at Arsenal too, so it's not hard to understand why two pundits that watch English football picked the guy they've seen 100 times over someone they've seen 10 times max.

Not saying they're right, just that i understand why they came to that decision.

Noticing a lot of TAA picks in WCTs. Aren’t folk concerned that he will be rotated?

Seems to get tested in Champions league games and a bargain with Liverpool defence even if he misses a few games here and there

Everybody will be rotated in LIV team. Just have a good bench to cover it.

Well, most are being rotated. TAA good value and so far has been rotated for tougher games which ja what you ideally want

Think he has cemented his place now. He may get rotated in bigger games, but these games he is not likely to get points anyway.

Is Siggy worth 0.7 more than Richarlison? I personally prefer him but not sure money wise

You could also see it as only a 0.5 difference in terms of 'value' but, yeah, I think objectively he probably is. But it sounds like you have Rich already, and I'd only do that transfer if you had nothing else to do.

Don't you want Felipe Anderson or so with better fixtures ? Or Ramsey ?

I am Rich owner and will go WC soon but planning to ship him. Not confirmed yet though.

What do you think of this WC team :

      Fabianski - Button

TAA - David Luiz - Kolasinac - Digne - Wan Bisaka

Sane - Son - Ramsey - Filipe Anderson - Camarasa

      Kane - Auba -Mitro

Midfield is rotation minefield but defenders can cover it.

Steele seems no 2 now at Brighton not Button

Is Kolasinac nailed when Monreal and/or Koscielny back and Arsenal may play 4 at the back

Mids are weak - Son rotation risk and has Asian games in January, Ramsey not certain to start and Sané will be part of Pep’s rotation (I have him and expecting him to be benched v Chelsea)

        Mitrovic on 4 yellows
So I think side fraught with dangers I am afraid

Thank you. I think it is too risky indeed but wanted to feel what the rest felt.

          I got currently

          Ederson - Hamer

Roberson - Doherty - Digne - Wan Bisaka - Balbuena

          Salah - Sane - Rich - Fraser - Cairney

          Kane - Arnautovic - Jimenez

Bellerin more nailed on at the back for Arsenal ?

The schedule for Arsenal just looks too good and if they play with 3 in the back it gives nice opportunities.

I think I can keep Jimenez (or go for Wilson potentially).

But for the midfield... it is such a minefield. Maybe Alli better for Spurs for starts or Eriksen if Trippier's injury stays longer but then I might not have any Chelsea cover or so.

Thinking hard and will wait for the games later.

lol well its salah and arnie out for auba and fanderson/son. spurs doubled up could be good and son has hardly played so hes bound to get minutes over xmas. son was gold this time last year! just owning kane too puts eggs in one basket so a bit worrying!

I'm going for Felipe gw16 and possibly Son in 17. Maybe Sane instead of Son undecided yet but a reason I prefer Felipe as one out of the three as the cheapest

yeh thats the thing his price is very appealing and frees up funds. I took out wilson for this gameweek and i knew it could bite me but didnt fancy upcoming games. going for felipe will allow wilson to come back in for wolves and bournmouth so I may just do that. cheers mate.

two questions for you guys to ponder on, please help a mate 🙂

      1) best sub 4.3m defender if already got AWB,fabianski ....
      a) Schindler
      b) Diop
      c) Bennett
      d) other

      2) which one is better

      a) Ederson, trippier,doherty, F.Anderson OR
      b)fabianski,bennett,bednarek, hazard

(a gives a great bench but few captain options in auba, sterling maybe sane and b gives vice versa and hazard with chelsea's good fixture run)

When is the best time to play the Free hit?

Have only ten players potentially playing at the weekend with Arnie, Duffy, Billing and Bennet out. Don´t want to waste a transfer.

Following this article I looked up Snodgrass and Felipe Anderson. I have to say I am pretty impressed with Snodgrass' numbers. He would also allow me to upgrade Arnautovic to Lacazette. Monitoring how Arsenal lines up against Man United.
