Arnautovic injury opens door for more striker changes

An injury to Marko Arnautovic may cause further widespread changes among Fantasy Premier League squads.

His owners will be sweating on a hamstring problem in the coming days and will have their eyes on alternatives already.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Felipe Anderson owners as a host of differential options helped West Ham to their latest win.

West Ham United 3-1 Cardiff City

Goals: Lucas Perez x2 (£6.2m), Michail Antonio (£6.8m) | Josh Murphy

Assists: Robert Snodgrass x2 (£5.3m), Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m) | Sean Morrison (£4.7m)

Marko Arnautovic (£7.2m) could be the next player to leave the Fantasy Premier League template after he was taken off injured in West Ham’s win over Cardiff. The Austrian forward went down clutching his hamstring and it seems unlikely he will feature too much over the Christmas period. The return to fitness of Andy Carroll (£5.4m) as well as the form of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.2m) and Lucas Perez (£6.2m) mean that Manuel Pellegrini has plenty of options to replace him. If he is set for some time on the sidelines, the popularity of Callum Wilson (£6.9m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.6m) should rise accordingly.

“It is a hamstring injury, we will see tomorrow.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Also stepping up as a potential alternative option at West Ham was Robert Snodgrass (£5.3m) who recorded two assists in the win. Since returning from suspension in Gameweek 14 he has started two matches in a row while Grady Diangana (£4.5m) has featured for just 14 minutes. The Scottish international was also subbed after 75 minutes at the London Stadium suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to use him again in Gameweek 16. Snodgrass’ two assists were a delivery on the creative promise he’s shown this season. In the last four Gameweeks, he had created more chances than Felipe Anderson (£7.1m), who came out of the 3-1 win with just two points.

The only reason that Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) did not get his first home clean since Gameweek 6 was because of a scrappy late Cardiff City goal. The Bluebirds had not particularly threatened in the match and the Hammers were certainly on course for a well-deserved shut-out. In contentious circumstances, Josh Murphy (£4.8m) bundled the ball over the line deep into stoppage time with Fabianski obstructed from being able to make a save. However, his owners will still be content with his first-half penalty save and eight-point haul.

Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) missed out on the match with his recent injury problems. He was considered a doubt for the encounter but was fit enough for the bench, although he did not come on.

Michail Antonio (£6.8m) got his first goal of the season, a header from one of Snodgrass’ corners. It was an impressive display from him but Fantasy managers looking at West Ham options should probably exercise caution. The midfielder was deployed at right-back, not for the first time in his Hammers’ career, allowing first-choice Pablo Zabaleta (£4.3m) could have a rest. With Ryan Fredericks (£4.6m) still out injured, Antonio may well be the preferred alternative to Zabaleta at right-back during this busy period where rotation will be rife.

Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere (£4.8m) was entirely absent from the matchday squad having sustained a minor pain in his ankle.

“Jack (Wilshere) has a small pain in his ankle, not the one he injured before. If he is not 100 per cent then I was not going to select him.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Joe Ralls (£4.7m) announced himself as Cardiff City’s penalty taker but his time in that position may be short-lived after seeing his poor effort saved.

It was a poor night for Cardiff and their Fantasy options. A number of them are still playing out-of-position, so to speak with Callum Paterson (£5.3m) the centre-forward once again and Victor Camarasa (£4.6m) deployed on the right flank of the attack.

Murphy has now featured only as a substitute in two of his last three matches while, as we already mentioned, the circumstances of his headed goal were fortuitous at best.

West Ham XI (4-4-2): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Diop, Antonio; F Anderson, Rice, Noble, Snodgrass (Diangana 75′); Arnautovic (L Perez 40′), Chicharito (Carroll 64′).

Cardiff XI (4-1-4-1): Etheridge; Bennett, Bamba, Morrison, Ecuele Manga; Gunnarsson; Hoilett (Murphy 64′), Arter, Ralls (Mendez-Laing 64′), Camarasa; Paterson (Harris 73′).

    Fabi / Foster
    Laporte / Luiz / Robbo / Doherty / AWB
    Hazard / Sterling / Richarlison / Brooks / Diangana
    Wilson / Kane / Arnautovic

Currently on this squad and 1 FT. What would you do? I want to get rid of Arnautovic at least.
    Go for Arna + Hazard -> Auba + 7.7 mil midfielder = -4 hit.
or include someone else (like a defender) for -8 and get that midfielder up a notch?

If you really want one I think Kenedy has more potential than Torreira but there are better options imo

Contrary to popular belief I don't think torreria is a terrible option as he is the first name on the teamsheet and the last few games he has been having a few shots. Of course more often than not you're just going to get 2 points but there are worse options if he's just going to be bench fodder most of the time.

For the Duffy owners... are you looking to replace him and if so who with? Worth banking 0.5 to go for a 4.2 option such as Kiko?

Put Aubameyang, Kane and Mitrovic in it.

      Put Siggy or Rich
At least one of Sterling/Sané, or both if you want both.

      TAA.
Fabianski or Ederson if you want an expensive GK.
      AWB.

Then push on auto select. If you dont like it, fill in the gaps yourself

      Auba - KANE - Wilson

      Here is mine...

    Fabianski
    Alonso Robertson Laporte
    Rich Shaq Sterling Sane Fraser
    Kane Arnie
    (Stek Jimenez Doherty AWB)

Really want Auba for the weekend but unless I take an 8 pointer, I can't feasibly get him in unless he comes in for Kane.

    a) WC so I have both Kane & Auba
    b) Kane > Auba for free (assuming Auba doesn't get injured tonight)

Using the SkyBetBoost you can get yourself a pretty good deal as long as you think Liverpool and Spurs will both win:

    A) £10 on Spurs, Lpool and Arsenal = £70
    B) £10 on Spurs, Lpool and the Draw = £80
    C) £10 on Spurs, Lpool and Man U = £55

Il be doing A and B with an outlay of £20, with £50 and £60 chance of profit

What do we reckon gents? Best WC I could come up with.

    Fab
    Alonso • TAA • Digne
    Sterling • Haz • Rich • Fraser • Snoddy
    Kane • Lacazette

    Steele • AWB • Schindler • Success

I really don't rate Alonso at the moment, I'd rather get Azpiculeta on a WC. But, I'd rather have Trippier for the next games. I did Digne on my WC last GW due to two good home games, but he barely got in there. I'd rather have an Arsenal player in that slot if I were to WC now. Schindler rotates well with Chelsea, though. I rate him. Fernandez is another option for GW17-19.

Sigurdsson over Richarlison unless you've had him since his 6.5 days. Fraser/Snoddy is a smart combination, they will rotate very well. But, because of that rotation, I don't rate the two-striker system you currently have. I'd upgrade Success to Ings. He's overlooked, but will be back for Cardiff most lakely, and will compliment your rotation well with good games in GW16, 18 and 19 (bench Fraser in the last two at least). I really rate him (so dangerous when he plays) if you can find a plan for GW 20-22.

      Fab
      Trippier TAA Kolasinac
      Sterling Hazard Sigurdsson (Fraser Snodgrass)
      Kane Lacazette (Ings)

      (Steele/Schindler/AWB)

Hazard to Sane could allow you to upgrade Ings to Wilson, but given your team structure I'm not sure I prefer that, or Laca to Auba, even AWB to Laporte/Azpic/Alonso if you want a defender long term from GW17 onwards.

6 straight greens, however my team took quite a tumble this week with injuries, etc. What to do now?

    Ederson Hamer
    Alonso TAA Digne Duffy*** WB
    Salah Sterling Richarlison Fraser Camarasa
    Kane Ings*** Arny***

    1ft, 0.1itb

Thinking of Arny > Chica/Wilson and calling it good for the weekend, however something like:

    A) Salah + Arny > Auba + Son (-4)
    B) Salah + Arny > Laca + Eriksen/Sane (-4)

    Fab (Hamer)
    Alonso TAA Digne Doherty AWB
    FAnderson Siggi Sterling Fraser Gunnarson
    Auba Kane Arnie*

    Concidering my team.
Who would you transfer in for Arnie?

Arny > Wilson/Mitro/Chica and I think you're all good. Don't think the rest of your team matters in the decision.

What to do with this lot?

    Fabianski, Foster
    Alonso, Robertson, Laporte, Bennett, Wan-Bissaka
    Salah, Sane, Richarlison, Fraser, Hudson-Odoi
    Kane, Wilson, Arnautovic

1 free transfer and 0.6 in the bank

    A) Salah and Arnautovic -> Eriksen and Aubameyang for -4
    B) Arnautovic -> Mitrovic for free
    C) something else

Can't afford Arnie > Arnie outright. Could with a hit or WC, though. Worth it?

    Current team:
    Fab, Foster
    Robbo, Alonso, Doherty, AWB, Bednarek
    Sterling, Hazard, Fraser, Rich, Gunnarsson
    Kane, Wilson, Arnie
    1FT, 1.0itb

Difficult one. I would probably not do it since Robertson will be back for Bournemouth; if I were, it would be to improve the defense, though. Foster would be downgraded for cash, playing Fabinski every GW. I used to be a fan of GK rotation, this season less so.

Defenders I'd look at: Schindler, Fernandez (Yedlin or Lascelles for slightly, or much better, attacking threat if money allows), Holding/Balbuena as a rotation trio. Trippier. One of TAA and Bellerin/Kolasinac. Schindler, Fernandez, Balbuena, Trippier, Kolasinac for instance. Rotates well.

Your midfield does not warrant a WC. If on a WC, I'd probably value Sane over Hazard, Sigurdsson or Felipe over Richarlison, but these transfers are double-edged and by no means in need of a surgical incision, which a WC normally is.

Strikers look good. Wilson to Chica would be a cheeky 1FT pun since you don't have Felipe or Arnautovic, could be a massive differential at 6.2. The extra money could allow you to consider something like Fraser to Son (after their Leicester away game) with the next FT.

If on no WC, depending on how the Arsenal Manu game goes, I'd consider taking a -4 to get in two Arsenal players: Arnie>Laca (ca -1.5 million in the bank), Alonso>Bellerin(ca. 0.5 in the bank).

Trippier would be the equivalent of a City mid. IMO, the combination of CS potential and attacking threat in these fixtures have Trippier written all over them, even if he gets rested the odd game.

Kolasinac is secure for the next two weeks, Monreal set for full training at that point. But, indications point to Arsenal continuing with wingbacks in their better fixtures, which is when you'd want to start them anyway, and in that case both Monreal and Kolasinac would start, the former as a part of the back 3, the latter as wingback. Bellerin if you need a secure starter in three weeks time.

I'm a bit worried about rotation in tonight's games.
With Neves unavailable I have no further subs left.
But one slight consolation is that any player who doesn't play tonight will start at the weekend. Then I will have selection problems.
