Manager Melee: Matchday 2

Matchday 1 finished on Sunday evening, and as the excitement of the new head to head format begins to die down, the results are in and we can confirm the standings within each group.

To view all the head to head results and group standings yourself, see them here.

Point scoring rules

Each match consists of eight H2H matches, all worth one match point to the victor’s team, except for the captain’s H2H which is worth two match points. At the end of the match, the team with the most match points are the winners and will be awarded three league points. Any match ending with both teams having 4.5 match points is a draw, and both teams will be awarded a single league point. League points will determine each team’s position within their group, with match point difference providing the deciding factor where league points are the same.

Matchday 1 Scoring

Without further ado, here are each groups standing and their next matches:

Group Anichebe
American Dycho got off to the best start throughout the competition by dominating Dirty Zidancing 9-0. Claudio with a Chance of Modballs also got off to a tasty start beating Finding Nuno, who only managed a single draw, 8.5-0.5. This means that American Dycho ruthlessly top their group, Claudio with a Chance of Modballs settle in second, Finding Nuno float into third place and Dirty Zidancing merengue their way into fourth.

Next matchday sees Claudio with a Chance of Modballs up against Dirty Zidancing, while Finding Nuno face the prospect of taking on American Dycho.

Group Brunt

The Guardiolas of the Galaxy were out banged by the Big Bang Thierry, losing 3-6. RoboKlopp managed a very close victory against Neville Wears Prada, 5-4…I’d buy that for a dollar! (sorry couldn’t resist). So the Big Bang Thierry explode into first place, RoboKlopp settle for second, Neville Wears Prada meander their way into third place and the Guardiolas are left guarding the fourth spot.

Next matchday sees Neville Wears Prada face off against the Guardiolas of the Galaxy, and RoboKlopp will attempt to take the Big Bang Thierry dead or alive.

Group Cuellar

Thor: Wagnerok tried gallantly to overcome the Godfather: Pardew, but losing the captain H2H proved their downfall, losing 3-6 at the final whistle. The match between Howe to Train Your Dragon and the Silence of the Lambert was a very close affair, with their captain’s H2H finishing as a draw. Despite having a lower overall score, Howe to Train Your Dragon managed just enough match points to win 5-4. This means that the Godfather: Pardew remain the top power in first place, Howe to Train Your Dragon roar into second, the Silence of the Lambert sit sullenly in third place, and Thor: Wagnerok are left sulking in fourth.

Next matchday sees Howe to Train Your Dragon attempt to disintegrate Thor: Wagnerok, and the Silence of the Lambert try to dismember the Godfather: Pardew.

Group Demel

Hughes Line is it Emery?, despite a hat full of draws, lost to Alice in Wengerland 1.5-7.5, who also had the highest overall score of 495. When ‘Arry Met Sarri reached the dizzy heights of ecstasy once more by beating the Hills Have Moyes 5-4 despite having a lower overall score. Alice in Wengerland can have a nice cup of tea in first place, When ‘Arry Met Sarri have their male refractory period in second, the Hills Have Moyes are left staring at third position and Hughes Line is it Emery? may see a sacking soon in fourth.

Next matchday sees the Hills Have Moyes eyeing up Hughes Line is it Emery?, and When ‘Arry Met Sarri find themselves hosting Alice in Wengerland.

Notable performances

Best team performance goes to Howe to Train Your Dragon for winning their first match despite a lower overall score, they got their lineup near perfect. Well done chaps.

Highest scoring individuals were Le God (American Dychos), Belalugozi78 (Thor: Wagnerok) and Dream Killers 2.0 (the Hills Have Moyes) who all scored 73. We look forward to giving a shout out to the best Press Conferences of each matchday, ideally posted in the style of your eponymous manager(s).

Matchday 2

Matchday 2 will be this midweek Gameweek 15, so team managers will need to submit their line-ups by the gameweek deadline on 4th December, here is a reminder of the rules:

  • The managers have to submit a list of 8 members at ffscommunityorganisers@gmail.com before the deadline of each Gameweek, which will always coincide with the FPL deadline.
  • Every member of the list plays their counterpart in a H2H format with a win resulting in 1 match point accrued for the team, a draw 0.5 match points and a loss resulting in 0 match points.
  • The first member of the list is considered the captain of the team whose victory results in 2 match points for his team, or 1 match point in the case of a draw.
  • In case a manager fails to send his team before the deadline, their captain will be the player with the lowest OR, and their bench will be made up of their next three best performing players.

Tournament Schedule is as follows:

Matchday 2 – GW15
Matchday 3 – GW16
Matchday 4 – GW17
Matchday 5 – GW18
Matchday 6 – GW19 (boxing day)
Quarters – GW22
Semis – GW23
Final – GW24

Good luck everyone, especially When ‘Arry Met Sarri; team Wengerland are on a roll…

    Press conference from Arsene Wengerland
FFS: Arsene, so far you have played eight, won five, drawn three and lost none. Can your team remain invincible?
AW: We are just happy to get the three points, and now we move our focus to the next match, and most importantly spanking When ‘Arry Met Sarri into the prochaine semaine.
FFS: How important was your team captain today, who lead from the off?
AW: We call him Mr Perfectionist for a reason, he will of course be in contention for the armband again, but the whole squad deserve a special mention for their top, top quality and focus in the training.
FFS: Can you beat your next opponents?
AW: Well, you know, if you put a steak in front of a lion…
FFS: You used that one last week Arsene…
    AW: Did I…?
    FFS: Yes Arsene
AW: And the bearnaise sauce as well…?
    FFS: Yup…
AW: Well, errrrr, they are maybe good at making silly photos, but I don’t think that little selfie pictures will save them. Listen, our last opponents have already sacked one of their managers, so I feel sorry for Harry to maybe get sacked as well.
    FFS: Really?
AW: No, not at all [smirks]

When Arry met Sarri are in ecstasy, with mutiple explosions of Sane, Wilson, Fraser and Flappy climaxes, and Kane enjoying a pre-prandial cigarette ahead of his starring role tomorrow. Meanwhile we have Arnie drooping off into the sunset while his replacement feasts on raw meat, and Sterling drying off his dreams on the bench.

    We need a magic potion.

Matchday 1 Post-match presser - Big Bang Thierry vs GotG

Shreeves 'Well done, Thierry. You've assembled a team full of lesser known figures and had a good first outing. You must be pleased.'

Thierry 'Yes. They played well. I told them to try and keep the ball at all times, and in the end they had many balls in their pockets.'

S (chuckling) 'We saw you talking to some of the GotG players after the game. What did u discuss?'

T 'I went up to Klopptomist and I wished him well for the remaining matches. We spoke about today's game. He said that they had mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still, that they become invisible to the eye. And I agreed. They were pretty invisible on the pitch.'

          'I am Gnuuuuu'

          T 'What was that?'

S 'Oh that's just one of their players.'

          'I am Gnuuuu'

S 'So what do you have to say about beating a team with such good players?'
