Captains

Vote in the Gameweek 16 captain poll

As the manic turnaround between Gameweeks continues we are back to picking our next captain already.

Our latest poll is now live so you can vote on who you believe the best option for the armband is in Gameweek 16.

There are plenty of candidates this time around with very few that leap out to us.

Arsenal’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town is perhaps the most eye-catching with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) expected to be the favourite there although Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) is also considered.

Liverpool’s assets will be heading to a Bournemouth defence that has deteriorated statistically of late, meaning there could be returns for Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Roberto Firmino (£9.2m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.0m) or Sadio Mané (£9.8m) if he is passed fit.

Fresh from his 12-point haul in Gameweek 15, Harry Kane (£12.5m) may also be a popular figure. He travels to King Power Stadium, to face a Leicester side he has scored seven goals against in his last four meetings with them.

Fantasy managers burned by Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy midweek may be reticent to make any of their Manchester City options their captain this weekend.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) will probably be the most backed among his colleagues. A start against Chelsea feels very likely given that he was rested against Watford and has four goals and five assists in his last five appearances.

Leroy Sané (£9.4m) and David Silva (£8.7m) seem the most likely alternatives unless Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is declared fit between now and the weekend.

However, it will also be interesting to see how much their opponents Chelsea will temper interest in the Manchester City options.

Lacazette should start. Think it's only the fitness issue after the injury that's kept him from playing 90 mins.

Expected him to start last game, so tough to know what's going on there - benched or slow post-injury reintroduction.

        it's the right move

I binned him last night, but not just due to his recent drop in attacking returns, but more so due to his drop in defensive ability.

He's made a few mistakes in the past few weeks and it wouldn't surprise me to see him dropped soon.

        1. TAT

Exactly. He's not been playing well defensively, and Sarri could easily bench him for one or more of the upcoming fixtures.

Easy sell for me on WC.. Not expecting much vs city so he should drop to a manageable price to buy back incase he plays himself into essential mode in a few weeks.

The ‘must own Alonso’ religion on here is a weird one. I’ve been laughing with TAA plus 2 million since my wildcard a few weeks ago. Yes he’s a good option, but there are always multiple routes to success.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years

It’s because folks have long memories - and Alonso has a massive sample size that demonstrates he consistently does it over he long term.

You’ll get 3, 5, even 7 game periods where his output may regress, but long term he always delivers.

14 goals, 14 assists, 35 clean sheets, 40 baps in 79 games speaks for itself.

      7. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

It’s history repeating itself - this isn’t the first time Alonso goes into the “bust” of his boom-bust cycle.

Every time he does, he comes back without fail. Could easily get 9 points v city, regardless of how bad he was v Fulham & Wolves.

And after City his fixtures are good.

If Sarri were to permanently drop him, that’s a different conversation, but until then i’ll not be selling the best defender in FPL history thank you very much.

He won't be benched. Arsenal are out of the Top 4 so there is pressure to win and don't have to rest anyone for a midweek game. He will have the entire weeks rest.

            Will be interesting to see.

I really do think he will be benched, he won't want to risk injury and Laca can easily fill the role in his place in the same formation set up.

      On a WC guys:

      Fab, Button
AWB, Doherty, TAA, David Luiz, Schindler
      Sterling, BSilva, Richarl, Fraser, Billing
      Kane, Auba, Wilson

Any good? 0.2 ITB. Not loving the Bournemouth double up, but should be alright for now.

Looks good. Is Button second choice at Brighton, thought it was Steele now.

        Maybe Bilva to Anderson?

Depending on how much money you have tied in the Bournemouth guys, you might just go with just one...and get other one back later when fixtures get better, otherwise I'd say keep both

looking at fixtures, that happens only against strong opposition, and there will be no strong opponents for the foreseeable future, so fairly confident...and even then, last 2 times he brough points even from bench

Not comparable - 3rd game in 7 days and they have a Lacazette.

Apologies for repost, missed the new article:

Just broke top 10k for the first time since GW2 and could do with some help staying in there. Haven't seen much football recently so I feel a bit underinformed.

          1) It seems an Arsenal attacker is going to be key, and obviously if one can afford Auba and Kane that's the captaincy settled for a while. I have Kane and Auba is out of reach. Is Lacazette enough? Is he (C)-worthy?

          2) Going on the premise that Laca is worth getting, I need to sell Alonso (for 5.3 or less) to fund it. Currently thinking TAA, and then Robbo to Trippier the following week (when Trippier has Burnley).
Other options I've considered are: Doherty (already have Pat he hasn't inspired confidence in Wolves CSs), Yedlin, Schindler

          Any advice much appreciated

There is only one, the king of December, Harry Kane.

          14-15 7 games 6 goals 1 assist
          15-16 7 games 3 goals 1 assist
          16-17 7 games 8 goals
          17-18 6 games 8 goals.

Another dreadful week! Think my chance of a decent rank has gone. Expecting a low score again this week 🙁

          Morning all

This is my WC team atm:

          £0.3itb
          Fab
          TAA, Laporte, Doherty
          Sterling, Sané, Fraser, FAnderson
          Kane, Auba, Wilson
          (Hamer) (Gunnarsson, AWB, Schindler)

I'm happy with it but contemplating one last decision:
Should I downgrade FAnderson to Snoddy and then upgrade a defender (i.e. Schindler to Bellerin or VVD for a 'Pool double up)?
Snodgrass is looking key to set pieces and likely to be involved in plenty of assists and saves a wad of cash

What do you think oh wise people? Will either Cap Kane or Auba I think

I'm likely bringing in Snoddy ovrt F. Anderson to enable next week's transfer. On wildcard would probably go Felipe as he IS better price point, easier to swap for Rich/Siggy for example

The “switchability” is a fair point. Will mull it over!

Was going to wc this gw but did really well... no tempted to save until after cl game incase injuries etc. So Hazard, Arni to Fanderson, Aubam for a -4?
