Scout Picks

Gameweek 16 Scout Picks – Kane and Lacazette lead the line

For the third time in a week, we have produced a line-up which we believe to be the best for Fantasy Premier League.

It’s been a manic turnaround this week and it comes to an end with our selection for Gameweek 16.

With a bit more time to prepare than we had for Gameweek 15, we consulted our Scout Squad once again, this time Joe, Az, Peter and Neale on the panel.

We have whittled down their choices to a 3-4-3 line-up valued at £82.5 (at time of writing).

Goalkeeper

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.6m) gets the nod in goal this week as West Ham prepare for a home match against Crystal Palace. He was chosen as the top option in this position by Joe, Az and Neale. While the Hammers have just one clean sheet at the London Stadium this season, they came incredibly close against Cardiff City, while the Eagles have largely struggled in front of goal. Their victory over Burnley owing to the Clarets accommodating nature at the back.

Defenders

As we get closer to Christmas we seem to be spending less and less money on defence in the Scout Picks each week. For Gameweek 16, Matt Doherty (£5.0m) is our most expensive player in this position as Wolves face a trip to Newcastle United. The Magpies have only scored in two of their last five matches at home so there’s a chance Doherty could get a clean sheet, but his attacking play this season means he always stands a chance of a goal or an assist.

Sead Kolasinac (£4.9m) has the honour of being the first Arsenal defender to make the Scout Picks this season. He was mentioned by Joe, Az and Neale ahead of the Gunners’ hosting of Huddersfield Town. While Unai Emery’s men have not been defensively sound this season, no team has scored fewer goals than Huddersfield. Furthermore, the Bosnian left-back has created 10 chances of the last four Gameweeks, claiming two assists in that time.

Despite Everton struggling to get the predicted result against Newcastle, Lucas Digne (£4.8m) gets another shot at the Scout Picks for Gameweek 16. It’s Watford who come to Goodison Park on Monday night, with just two goals in their last four matches, and the Hornets have found the net in only two of their last five away matches. Meanwhile, Digne continues to be involved in set pieces for Everton.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) goes into the Scout Picks once again, riding on the backing of all four Scout Squad pundits. Joe, Az and Neale put him down as the best option in this position for Gameweek 16 while Peter had him at second. As we recently noticed in this week’s latest Captain Sensible article, Salah has produced a nice balance between goal threat and creativity in the last four Gameweeks, comparing favourably with other options in spite of missing most of Gameweek 15. That rest against Burnley stands him in good stead to start at the Vitality Stadium, where he will face a Bournemouth defence that has allowed more shots in the penalty box than any other side from Gameweek 12 onwards.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) comes back into the side after missing out on a place in both the Manchester City starting XI and our own in Gameweek 15. We figured that the England international would probably be benched for the trip to Watford, but there is no way he won’t play against Chelsea. It is a huge match for Manchester City, which allows them to further demonstrate their ability to see off competition from other members of the big six. Sterling has four goals and five assists in his last five starts and looks the most likely to excel for Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Robert Snodgrass (£5.3m) comes in as a budget alternative to Felipe Anderson, who was chosen by all four of our pundits. We made the switch in order to facilitate greater spending on Salah and Sterling, as well as our forward line. The Scottish midfielder has actually created more chances than Anderson in the last four Gameweeks.

Callum Paterson (£5.3m) and Cardiff have a home match against Southampton in Gameweek 16 and it looks well-timed for the Bluebirds to exploit the Saints’ current situation. It will be the first game in charge for new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl and, with such a tight turnaround, his appointment is unlikely to take effect. Meanwhile, only Newcastle and Manchester City have had more efforts on goal in their last four home matches than Cardiff.

Forwards

Harry Kane (£12.5m) was tipped by all four of our pundits this week following his 12-point haul against Southampton on Wednesday. It’s a Leicester side he’s scored seven goals in his three matches against up next and he remains top of the league for shots on target in the last four Gameweeks.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) is the chosen Arsenal representative this week. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang actually got more support in the Scout Squad article but for financial reasons, we’ve gone with his French colleague. We actually believe Lacazette is likely to be involved, having featured from the bench twice across Gameweeks 14 and 15, while Aubameyang has played 180 minutes. In those two matches, he managed a goal and an assist.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.0m) completes the Scout Picks XI this week as the most popular of the budget forwards among our panel of pundits. All of them tipped the Mexican apart from Az as Wolves prepare to face Newcastle. The Magpies have conceded an average of 1.63 goals per home game this season while only Kane and Salomón Rondón have had more shots than Jiménez since Gameweek 12.

Substitutes

Sean Morrison (£4.7m) gets a place on the bench after picking up the backing of Joe and Peter. While Cardiff haven’t been too hot defensively this year, the home match against Southampton offers more potential for a clean sheet than usual. But crucially, no defender has had more touches in opposing penalty boxes than Morrison in the last four Gameweeks, indicating his goal threat.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) has another favourable match-up this week as Burnley host a Brighton side susceptible to headed efforts this season, especially away from home. As the set piece taker, Gudmundsson could benefit.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (£6.3m) is likely to be Manuel Pellegrini’s full-time replacement for the injured Marko Arnautovic so he should be considered a Fantasy stand-in too. In the four matches previous to Gameweek 15, the Mexican had actually registered more shots than his Austrian colleague from fewer minutes.

Community Champion

The Community Champion returns after the manic turnaround of the midweek games. Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 16 is Dr Mantis Toboggan (DC2). He has opted for a 3-5-2 formation of Fabianski; Digne, Doherty, Kolasinac; Salah, Son, Richarlison, Martial, Paterson; Aubameyang, Lacazette.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

The Scouts have won eight and lost six so far, with Prasun Singhal defeated 57-43 in Gameweek 14.

fclackless‘s winning margin of 33 points (77-44) in Gameweek 10 is the current target to beat.

Hi guys, team for this GW is:

    Fab
    TAA - Alonso - Robertson
    Kenedy - Sane - Hazard - Sterling (v) - Richarlison
    Wilson - Kane (c)
    ———————————————————
    Hamer: Dunk, Success, AWB

Reckon it’s worth playing Kenedy ahead of anyone on the bench? Or switch for maybe Dunk?

That’s all i’m left figuring out really. Any help most appreciated 🙂

I wish I had listened to you last week ur wc suggestions were spot on. i needed 0.7 out of my team and u told me to do arnie to wilson, siggy to rich and gunnarsson to hudson-odoi.
but i went for robbo to TAA.

Ouch, hate that... On the plus side, Siggy & TAA are good DPL picks anyways, the pendulum could swing back their way.

I have to say I’m not a fan of Robbo out though, Robbo/TAA double up has been great so far

do u think either of chicharito or lucas perez are worth a punt or better to play it safer with wilson or mitro ?

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          5 years, 3 months ago

I think Wilson or Mitro are better picks... I have Wilson. The West Ham guys (chick in particular) could score very well though, and those fixtures are unreal. But Andy Carroll is there also and not sure if any are really guaranteed...

On a WC, I would probably (marginally) favour Mitro, but there isn’t much in it, and Wilson is a great pick also, and you wouldn’t be sweating on a YC

Wilson’s fixtures are also not as bad as folks make out. Come 14:30 today for example, he has wol, BRI, WAT, WHM in his next 7

          1. ZimZalabim

i think its down to chicharito and wilson for me now it just comes down to future moves and west ham cover, my plan with siggy was to sell after two games one of which is done with no returns one to go then hes gone before city.

I could get wilson now and then go for anderson to cover west ham from next week or I go for chicha and get son in for a few weeks, the risk is that ill have far too many rotation risks in my team if I go for son.

Thanks for the detailed reply tho. now I need to make a decision

Is he startable do you think?

Could see a few teams getting 4 of the big 6 (Salah, Haz, Sterling, Kane, Kun, Auba) and starting a 4.5 mid

I have CHO and 0.3 ITB so if I ever get a spare FT Camarasa 3rd sub will interest me

      1. Valar(Keith)
        • 14 Years

I love having a playable bench so I've got him in. Will be first sub most of the time but considering their fixtures till GW 31 I don't mind him coming on once in a while for a benched player. Also, I never take hits.. So having a playable mid helps me save transfers due to injury. To Each his own though

      2. Valar(Keith)
        • 14 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

I would never recommend him as a 4th mid obviously.. So start able in the loosest sense of the word. Penalties, corners and free kicks means he could get an assist atleast when called upon

I suppose it depends on the definition of easily allright. For Alonso - he’s Just a player I could never bench, rightly or wrongly... his role in the chelsea team is such that he will put in multiple crosses, he may get a DFK or two, and he’ll start off on a clean sheet... it only takes one cross or one shot or city to have an off day for him to score points.

            1. Nabs Kebabs
              • 12 Years
              5 years, 3 months ago

              Yeah it does.

And I haven't benched him yet this season and do agree he's very, very hard to bench. I just can't see him getting up the pitch too much as City's high press won't allow Chelsea too deep into their half. And he has been playing a lot of games so may not have the energy to be as aggressive.

If I do go ahead and bench him, it's definitely a risk that could backfire though.

      2. Nabs Kebabs
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

These are the main two I'm considering benching.

I currently have Alonso benched as it's hard to see him keeping a CS or getting attacking return against a team who press high and keep the ball so well.

Can see Wilson possibly nicking a goal. But unlikely to haul.

Fraser’s been in my squad since GW3 and obviously done exceptionally, but with the change in fixtures is it worth swapping him for Felipe Anderson? Would mean a midfield of Sterling, Sane, Rich, Anderson and Camarasa. To free up the funds though I’d need to do Laporte to Kolasinac/Digne.

    So:

    A. Laporte and Fraser

    or

    B. Kolasinac/Digne and Anderson

Other consideration is that I got Fraser at 5.5 so I’d have to find 0.5 if I ever wanted him back, and if I don’t go with Laporte I still get clean sheet points for Sterling and Sane so hedging my bets anyway.

I have Feaser and Anderson. But I will NEVER sell Fraser unless injury. Best value for money player in FPL.

Wondering whether to play Wan-Bissaka ahead of Alonso this week? Doesn’t feel right benching Alonso though.

I usually play very safe with my captaincy choice (basically either Salah, Kane or Agüero every week) but really tempted to roll the dice on Lacazette this week... too risky?

    Ederson
    Alonso • Alexander-Arnold • Doherty
    Salah • Alli • Richarlison • Maddison
    Kane • Lacazette (C) • Jiménez

    Hamer • Wan-Bissaka • R.Bennett • Masuaku

Auba no show or blank against Huddersfeild will be killer blow for new owners.

Especially if Kane hauls. (for those who opted Auba over Kane last gw as Kun replacement) 😉

leicester has been tight at the back for last month or so.could be a close encounter

if you have salah id recommend him. bournmouth conceding a lot in the same period. plus they seems to attack even against bigger teams creating space for likes of salah to punce on

Sterling, Kane and Auba are my options. On paper it has to be Auba.. But there is that worry in the back of the mind. Nothing worse than a 1 point captain when all the alternatives haul

Just checked and Auba has blanked in 5 out of 8 home games! Add the rotation risk and I think il skip captaincy

Rashford feels like a no brainer this week, but he isn’t doing much despite a lot of minutes recently?
Huge potential to go big I guess with some tasty games coming up.

Should I take a hit to do Alonso to Kolasinac and bench one of Robertson/Doherty/Digne to free up funds to do Lacazette to Kane next week?

2 clean sheets this season, which is very poor but they have Hudds, Southampton, Burnley, Brighton as their next 4 fixtures. Plus Kola's attacking threat, which is the main reason why I'm considering him.

Has there ever been a scout pick not predicted in the team news to start before? Bizarre. I really don’t get why Auba is not a scout pick.

    How’s she looking?

    Hennessey
    Doherty Alonso Bennett
    Sterling Sane Richarlison Martial*
    Kane Laca Wilson

    Button Cedric AWB Billing*

Zilch ITB and -4 hit taken

Martial ➡ Snoddy for another hit worth it?

    1. We Will Klopp you
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

Why Snoddy? Would you not rather have Anderson? I think that would be worth a hit looking at your bench options, given Anderson's form, I don't have similar faith in Snoddy though.

I do think it's worth the hit. I see both Cedric & AWB conceding, Martial wasn't spotted at the hotel, there's a good chance that hit pays off this gw alone imo.

    FPL Cup qualifying this week.

The top 4,194,304 scorers in Gameweek 16 will enter the first round. If there are more than 4,194,304 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

Who would you suggest under 5.3m to go with this defense?
    Fabianski, Steele
    Kolasinac, Doherty, TAA, AWB, ______

Don't fancy Digne because of the fixtures. Maybe someone cheap to have more cash ITB for flexibility?
