Jimenez benched for Wolves’ trip to Newcastle as Neves returns

Newcastle United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the only Premier League match to be contested on Sunday, with kick-off at St. James’ Park at 16:00 GMT.

After disappointing defeats in Gameweek 15, both clubs bounced back with positive performances and results in midweek: the Magpies gaining a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park and Nuno Espirito Santo’s troops recording their first win in two months with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

Interest from a Fantasy perspective is mostly in Wolves’ assets, with four of their squad boasting an FPL ownership of 10% or higher: Ryan Bennett (£4.2m), Matt Doherty (£5.0m), Ruben Neves (£5.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£6.1m).

The first three of those players take their places in Santo’s starting XI but there is bad news for owners of Jimenez, who – along with Joao Moutinho (£5.3m) and Morgan Gibbs-White (£4.3m) – is only among the substitutes this afternoon.

The Mexican striker was the third-most-bought FPL player of Gameweek 16 following his goal against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Adama Traore (£5.3m), Diogo Jota (£5.9m) and Helder Costa (£4.8m) make up the visitors’ front three on Tyneside.

No FPL defender has registered more shots on target than Doherty this season, but Wolves are without a clean sheet in the league since Gameweek 8.

Rafael Benitez has made three changes to his team, with Ciaran Clark (£4.5m), Matt Ritchie (£5.8m) and Ayoze Perez (£6.1m) replacing Javier Manquillo (£4.3m), Jacob Murphy (£4.8m) and the suspended Fabian Schar (£4.6m).

Kenedy (£4.9m) and Paul Dummett (£4.4m) have recovered from injury but are only among the substitutes.

Salomon Rondon (£5.8m), who has three goals in his last four starts, once again leads the line for the Magpies.

Jamaal Lascelles (£4.7m) is the most-owned Newcastle player in FPL, sitting in 3.2% of squads.

No Premier League club has lost on as many occasions at home (six) as the Magpies in 2018/19.

Newcastle United XI (3-4-3): Dubravka; Lascelles, Fernandez, Clark; Ritchie, Diame, Ki, Yedlin; Atsu, Perez, Rondon.

Wolves XI (3-4-3): Rui Patrício; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Doherty, Neves, Saïss, Vinagre; Hélder Costa, Diogo Jota, Traore.

    Wtf is going on. Seriously.

If this becomes the norm then fpl need to change how the game works so we can see lineups first. More in line with Sky. Becoming a cr@pshoot.

Best part of the season, adds another dimension outside of pure stats and heart, it adds psychology and physiology in as well. Along with a healthy dollop of luck.

Otherwise, it would be too easy wouldn’t it?

Would be interesting if transactions locked before lineups were released but changes within the team could still be made up until 5 minutes before kickoff.

They will start next week when others don't. The problem is when you take someone out who is rested this week for a nailed on player next week maybe even for a hit, who is then rested.

...but with those Arsenal strikers, it's often the impact sub you want, not necessarily the starter. No coincidence that 3/4 of their goals come in the 2nd half.

It's a hamstring. Just look at everybody with hamstring injuries this season, since the World Cup. Even when he comes back, Pep will rotate him based on medical advice because it's an easily recurring issue

I really don't see the argument for having a deadline before we see the team sheets. The world cup and champions league fantasy have much better systems in that regard.

I'm not even saying this because of today as I don't have Jimenez - in general. There are a lot of challenges in the game, and, sure, one of them is to pick nailed players. But when there's a gameweek every 2 days it's 100% impossible to predict who might unexpectedly be rested.

    1. Bruno Bruno!!

In a word, no? Personally, not knowing who starts is not a particularly exciting part of my following football 😀

In terms of a fantasy game in particular, I agree one of the challenges is to pick nailed players. But when the gameweeks are so close together you get completely random rotations, of players that otherwise are totally nailed.

                • 8 Years
                5 years, 4 months ago

There's enough unpredictability as it is to be honest (see Kane blanking vs. Cardiff, Emery dragging Lacazette out at half-time, various otherwise unexpected results etc.) - if there wasn't, we'd all be doing great!

By which I mean, there's enough unpredictability centered around the outcome of matches and who scores the goals, that we don't need the unpredictability of unexpected rotation of otherwise nailed players (e.g. Jimenez) or of players carrying injuries that are not disclosed by the managers (e.g. Wilson).

    Salahs blanks this season;

Leicester, Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Everton. Not a coincidence that these are all good sides, all top half teams.

To suggest that his upcoming fixtures aren’t difficult, well it’s naiive, it’s just Salah owners trying to convince themselves. United, Arsenal and City in the next 6. Im a Salah owner, definitely considering swapping to Kane untill after Liverpool play Man City.
