Crucial Champions League action has huge FPL implications

Tonight’s Champions League matches could have a huge impact on the Fantasy Premier League 2018/19 landscape.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, whose assets have been popular this season, are in action in the European competition.

Qualification to the knockout stages is on the line, with neither club assured of their fate.

Liverpool must beat Napoli to stand any chance of progressing, and may also have to rely on results elsewhere.

If Red Star Belgrade beat PSG then a victory of any sort will suffice, but if the French side are victorious then Liverpool must either win 1-0 or by two clear goals.

A one-goal margin of victory will not be enough if Napoli score.

Meanwhile, Spurs need to match Inter Milan’s result against PSV to secure passage to the next round.

That is not something to be assured of given that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are facing Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

At this stage, either one of Liverpool or Tottenham could end up in the Europa League or be eliminated from continental competitions altogether.

Either scenario would have a big impact on Fantasy. Europa League fixtures would mean a greater concentration of Sunday matches, especially pertinent for those playing the Sky Sports game.

Furthermore, either one of those clubs being knocked out altogether would potentially heighten the appeal of their Fantasy options with fewer fixtures to fulfil in 2019.

Have you seen Barca’s starting lineup?

Barely playing 60 minutes and no returns while other fodder look like they have higher ceilings now.

      I’m watching Barca v Spurs.

I think it’ll be the better game and I get to scout Spurs assets.

We all know everything about Liverpool assets already.

Of course Barcelona are such a shocking team that the only way Spurs can't get a result is by bottling it.

Half the team is rested. Spurs are supposed to be a quality team? If they can't win this they should be embarrassed

            But it's spurs

Ridiculous comment. Coutinho and Dembele cost more than this entire Spurs team, so not as easy a fixture as you seem to think.

Plus they’ve got players like Andre Gomes who can’t get near the team

The half that's left includes Coutinho, Dembele, Rakatic, Vidal...it's "quite" good

some of the comments in your preseason expectations/aims question were funny... lots aim crazy high but their history reads like they should re-evaluate... the great Phil Dunphy once said: "The most amazing things that can happen to a human being will happen to you, if you just lower your expectations" 🙂

A spokesman for the Premier League said:

"The clubs voted at the last Premier League Annual General Meeting to modify the rule regarding clubs fielding full strength teams (E.20).

"From 2011/12 onwards the rule will allow any combination of players included in a club's 25-man squad list to be selected for a Premier League fixture.

"The 25-man squad rules do allow clubs to pick Under-21 players beyond those named in their squad list and, with this in mind, it was agreed by the clubs that it was appropriate for the rule to remain in place in order to ensure the integrity of the competition."

Do UEFA have a similar rule?
