Scoutcast Episode 278 – Greatness

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Mohamed Salah certainly provided a timely reminder that he is already one of Fantasy Football’s all-time greats on Saturday, with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.

But even that impressive display is seemingly not enough to convince all of the Scoutcast crew that the Liverpool attacker should be an essential part of their festive lineups.

Joining Joe, David and Luke in this week’s episode is Adam Hopcroft, who has featured on our Meet the Manager series and is among those still looking to ditch the Egyptian.

During a “Salexit” discussion in our community questions section, Adam reveals that there may well be better premium assets who are more deserving of attention.

In contrast, Joe and David are still backing the Reds’ marksman following his recent goal glut, which also includes a midweek strike against Napoli in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Luke is resolutely continuing his no-Salah policy, even though it cost him dear last time out.

Salah unsurprisingly dominates the crew’s look back at Gameweek 16, including a special instalment of Rough with the Smooth, dedicated to those who jettisoned the Liverpool man before his weekend heroics.

The crew also provide an update on the latest whipping boys and the potential captain candidates who look set to exploit their frailties over Christmas.

Elsewhere, our community questions section takes in the emerging battle between Fantasy Premier League’s old guard of veterans and the new, social-media-and-price-prediction-site-savvy managers on the scene.

The crew round off with a look at the best differentials and clean sheet prospects in Gameweek 17, as well as revealing their transfer and captaincy plans.

Just trying the rate my team feature for the first time. Can someone who knows there way around it explain why it’s telling me to bench Rich over Martial, even though his expected points are slightly higher (2.94 vs 2,55)? Sure there must be an obvious explanation, but it’s escaping me right now!

Rotation, if both were 100% starters, Martial would be expected to score more.

Ah, thanks, that makes sense. I’ll check again after the pressers if the flag comes off. Just trying to figure out who to lose to bring Anderson in - feels like a real 50/50 call

What to do with Lacazette?? I have the funds to replace him with Auba, but I'm not sure to waste a trasnfer sideways... City starting to concede in every match. Maybe Laporte to Luiz? Sterling to Hazard? Auba to Aguero next GW??

Very similar team to mine. I’m just considering changing the Everton mid I have (Sigurdsson) to a Spurs mid but deciding which one is a nightmare.

Wouldn’t get rid of Laca just yet, or Laporte.

My plan since GW 16 was Arnie to Laca, and in 17, Richarlison to SON. So I think i'll stick to the plan... Lacazette should play and hope for better luck?

Pretty much the same plan as me last 2 weeks too. Rotten luck for us last week, except I did even worse as I had Sigurdsson and captained Kane!

I’d definitely give Laca another week (I am). Have you got the cash to do Rich to Anderson? I’d save otherwise, unless you want to switch Balbuena or Bennett to lose one of your defensive double-ups

Yup, I have 1.9 ITB. But was saving that for Rich to Son, Or Laca to Aguero in 2 GW...

The players I really want asap but don’t have yet are either Haz, Alonso or both for their fixtures and because they have somehow got themselves underestimated to the extent that loads lost them on their WCs (me included). If this was your team for this week would you just suck it up and hope for 2FT next week to make some changes or get one in now?

If TAA confirmed out plan to get D Luiz on free. If so does this look OK to go without hit and with bench that should deal with any rotation by City or Wilson not playing? Other option is -4 and get Chicharito over Wilson?

    Fabianski

I was going for him for the exact same reason. But, with TAA and currently with double pool defence coverage, I’m considering going for a Spurs defender.

      Fab
      Alonso TAA Laporte Robbo
      Salah Sterling Richa
      Kane Wilson Jimenez

      Murphy Bennett Obiang.

      A) Obiang - > Snoddy

A player must be in your squad, whether there via wildcard or no, at the time a price change occurs for your team to be affected by it. So you can, in theory, play the market by changing players on a WC to catch price rises, though in practice it’s rarely easy to earn much that way.

Get Alderweid instead. Tripps if fit.

Jimmy is fine but Wilson better player in more offensive team. Wait for pressers.

Would you rather.......double up on Chelsea or Liverpool defence?

I own Alonso and Robertson I can upgrade TAA to either VVD or Luiz

Long term Chelsea as Pools short term fixtures are tough and we just lost Matip & Gomez. Lots of matches Lovren & VVD will play and might get mentally tired and leak some goals.

Stay as you are imo TAA’s attacking threat will make Luiz look silly

1FT, 1.7 ITB (which might be saved to get Sterling -> Salah, but not this week)

    Fab / Rui
    Robbo / Laporte / Kola / Chilwell / AWB
    Rich / Sane / Sterling / Fraser / DStephens
    Kane / Wilson / Mitro

I can't see anywhere that needs upgrading. Good to go and save the FT?

Really stuck on what to do here. Was planning on losing Salah and rich for sterling and son -4 but really not sure now considering Salah is on fire and can easily bench rich this week. Okay to save FT? 0.6itb

    Fab (ful)

Doherty (BOU) VVD (MUN) Morrison (wat) Alonso (bha)

Salah (MUN) Fraser (WOL) Sane (EVE)

Auba [C] (sou) Laca (sou) Jiménez (BOU)

    Hamer Kante Rich Bennett

Salah is on fire and may score. Or may not. Sterling might haul and u can do this move for free.

I'd be brave and take the hit, play the fixtures. Don't think Salah has ever done anything v man u. Having said that, Sterling played 90 tonight, complicates things a bit

to get Kane, which way you prefer?

    way1-
WIlson, Martial, Siggy > Kane, McArthur, Camarasa
(gives me 13 playing outfield players)

    way2-
    WIlson, Martial, Laporte > Kane , 4,3, 3.8
(gives me 11 playing outfield players)

Neither, he could well pull a ‘Cardiff (h)’ where he got 1point after everyone rushing to get him in, wouldn’t destroy your team balance to get him in, he’s not essential (owner)

    Hi all.

I would like to keep Haz/Salah/Anderson/Auba/Wilson

Therfore I can't afford Kane and Sterling.

But I can afford Sane and Son. (and still keep the above players)

Do you think this would cover Sterling and Kane over Xmas period??

No but you can't have them all

Can't have them all but tbh I'm not too concerned over not owning Kane.
Son is on form and should play most games?
Sane is in good form and no competition for his place plus he's 2m cheaper than Sterling.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go for it.
Il have just Auba and Wilson up top but mid looks really good.
        .
        Haz/Salah/Son/Sane/
        Anderson.

Great midfield. Go for it imo. If Kane doesn't do as well as expected you'll fly. If he does, you still have a decent team that should be able to compete if you get your captaincy right more times than not.

I think it looks good - stick with your big hitters though, I can see a lot of folks getting caught trying to chase points between Salah, Kane, Sterling, Haz, Auba - pick n stick is better in the long run!

Yeah I think Haz/Salah/Auba should do OK. Easier to have and keep to get them in.

Gonna gamble Sane/Son keep pace with Sterling/Kane till new year.

    Fabianski

    Alonso Robertson Doherty Kolasinac

    Sterling Anderson Salah

    Auba Wilson Jimenez

    Hamer AWB Richarlison Obiang

    a) Sane and Kamara in for Wilson and Richarlison
    b) Kane and Son in for Wilson and Salah
    c) hold

Prefer a but b could help preserve rank.

Planned to do Salah to Sterling to free up cash. But I am hesitating. Not just because of the hattrick, but also because of his CL performance today. He was brilliant at times.

So is saving the FT the right thing to do here or should I get rid of Martial or Laca perhaps? Slammed the (C) on Laca last weekend, so I am a holding a bit of grudge against him.

    Fabianski
    Alonso TAA Doherty
    Salah (vc) Sane Martial Rich
    Kane (C) Laca Jimenez

    Subs: Hamer Diop Diangana Peltier
