Scoutcast Episode 278 – Greatness

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Mohamed Salah certainly provided a timely reminder that he is already one of Fantasy Football’s all-time greats on Saturday, with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.

But even that impressive display is seemingly not enough to convince all of the Scoutcast crew that the Liverpool attacker should be an essential part of their festive lineups.

Joining Joe, David and Luke in this week’s episode is Adam Hopcroft, who has featured on our Meet the Manager series and is among those still looking to ditch the Egyptian.

During a “Salexit” discussion in our community questions section, Adam reveals that there may well be better premium assets who are more deserving of attention.

In contrast, Joe and David are still backing the Reds’ marksman following his recent goal glut, which also includes a midweek strike against Napoli in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Luke is resolutely continuing his no-Salah policy, even though it cost him dear last time out.

Salah unsurprisingly dominates the crew’s look back at Gameweek 16, including a special instalment of Rough with the Smooth, dedicated to those who jettisoned the Liverpool man before his weekend heroics.

The crew also provide an update on the latest whipping boys and the potential captain candidates who look set to exploit their frailties over Christmas.

Elsewhere, our community questions section takes in the emerging battle between Fantasy Premier League’s old guard of veterans and the new, social-media-and-price-prediction-site-savvy managers on the scene.

The crew round off with a look at the best differentials and clean sheet prospects in Gameweek 17, as well as revealing their transfer and captaincy plans.

    Rich, Sane, Sterling (vc), Felipe.
    Mitro, Kane (c), Aubameyang.

Sané should start he only played 52 minutes against Chelsea and scored both goals yesterday so they’ll want him on the pitch. I’m not sure about Sterling tho

Any indications of safe city mid picks this weekend...?

Got enough to go Sane, Bilva or Mahrez.. Obviously leaning towards Sane...
Its to replace Dilva on a free...

    1. LSK

I'd go Sane. He'll score the most over Xmas even if he's rested this week.

none of them are safe welcome to December

Sane should be the better pick long term (while Mendy js out). But COULD be rested vs Everton. Either him or Sterling should be in for a break. More likely to be Sterling. But then it will prolly be Sane next time. So Mahrez might be a good shout short term but not long tern

    4. Mini Mane Mo
      • 8 Years

Sane is probably due for a break since Sterling was rested against Watford. Mahrez didn’t play at all last night so expect him to start. Sane owner here.

    (BOTTOMED)

Planned to do Salah to Sterling to free up cash. But I am hesitating. Not just because of the hattrick, but also because of his CL performance today. He was brilliant at times.

So is saving the FT the right thing to do here or should I get rid of Martial or Laca perhaps? Slammed the (C) on Laca last weekend, so I am a holding a bit of grudge against him.

    Fabianski
    Alonso TAA Doherty
    Salah (vc) Sane Martial Rich
    Kane (C) Laca Jimenez

    Subs: Hamer Diop Diangana Peltier

      monitor TAA & Martial.

On those two or just one of.them? Martial out one more week is not a killer imo. Dont expect much of him vs Pool anyway. But if both out one needs to go for sure.

sterling capitan still a good idea ?

feel like they miss aguero so he will play and as he didn't play mid mahrez will play so only one of sane or sterling will play (slim chance of a 352 with jesus)

don't have kane so its between him aubba or salah

Mahrez might not play. Or might play in midfield. Or they might play Sane, Sterling, Mahrez and bench Jesus. I think it's a must win game so I can see Sterling and Sane both starting.

    Fabianski, Button;

    A) Richarlison > Snodgrass
    B) Save FT

I have .1 tied up in Rich and 0 ITB and probably want him back in 2 weeks time. So I'd need him to fall or Snodgrass to rise .2 (need to get him in before his first rise for this to have a chance)

I think West Ham defence is a bit of a trap, can’t see more than 1/2 clean sheets at best in the next 7/8 games. He may sneak a goal but I think you’ll be relying on attacking returns. However if he is constantly on the bench as first or second sub then might be a decent option

Considering Sterling's 90mins, I think Kane & Hazard are the two for the C & VC armbands this week.
My team kind of picks itself and can save FT for the first time in ages 🙂
    GL all

    Alonso / Kola / Doc
    Hazard / Sterling / Filipe / Fraser
    Kane / Laca / Jimenez

Yep looks good, I would probably put Camarasa first on the bench but that's a minor thing (and one I wouldn't be sure about anyway).

I have a feeling this week will shift to your favour - it looks like it's Hazard's turn to beat Son, and I don't think I can rely on Richarlison again vs. City. Annoyingly I might have to use a FT when I definitely planned to save, if I have both Wilson and TAA out.

I think it's Wilson I care about more as there's nobody I want to replace him with - with TAA there are options. But either way I suspect we'll get a couple of non-committal "we have to assess them in training" or something along those lines!

Well, I thought I did, then it turns out the perma-non-starter I sold (Bednarek) is playing all of a sudden, and the supposedly nailed-on player I got in his place (Chambers) was nowhere to be seen! 😆

I'm just annoyed that Howe didn't mention the injury at all even though it happened on Tuesday, when I could've easily sold him on my wildcard.

Just seen that you have 2.7itb so TAA to Alonso?

I actually don't think Alonso is that great value for money at the moment, which is why I sold him on my wildcard. For that amount you need attacking returns from a defender, which haven't been happening recently. TAA to Robertson is more likely I think if TAA is confirmed out, but if he he only misses a week or so I'm keeping.

But to be honest the 2.7 is more in case I need someone like Hazard or Sane, in which case I might end up with the best defender in the world.

Sterling sane both played the full UCL game...should we be worried about them getting rested this week??

I already have TAA & Wilson flagged ,can't afford a single player out now

The debate on the Scoutcast about the pitfalls of having a high TV was relevant but also a very very one sided arguement!

What were the main points? Super busy with college applications rn and haven’t been able to watch

        Main points were:
Holding onto players too long because of value tied up in them.
Missing out on cheaper alternatives that might be shrewder options.
Feeling obliged to go for the more expensive assets due to high TV.
Missing out on the most valuable thing - information - by making early moves.

In my opinion high TV is easily the least important factor to success in this game. It plays a role, but is a very, very minor role. And if anyone is making decisions based largely on TV, I can pretty much guarantee their team is suffering as a result.

Mark would have balanced it a bit I feel, as he was always an advocate for making an early transfer to catch price rises & avoid price falls - if he felt it was warranted.

I agree though, TV is so far down the pecking order of ingredients for a successful FPL campaign - but its not totally irrelevant either

And so, after much spreadsheeting, it comes down to this:

    A. Salah and Chicharito

    or

    B. F. Anderson and Aubameyang

    or

    C. There's really nothing in it.

      B slightly edges A, I think.

I was going to say B, but the -4 made me pause slightly. I still think I would rather have those two over the long term.

Full disclosure though, I still have the huge couch I bought to hide behind when I started the year without Salah. After last week, I have to pull it back out of storage.

    A) Martial> Bsilva
    B) Rich > Lucas Moura
    C) Do A&B for -4

    Already got Anderson Fraser Salah

I don't like either of those moves to be honest. Definitely not B. Could be persuaded on A if Martial is injured.

Yeah I think there are decent options either side of the Martial price point, but need to do a bit of surgery to make it happen. Could do Laca to Mitro (or similar) and upgrade Martial to a Sane/Hazard type? But Laca could bang this weekend, and Martial too in weeks to come. Difficult!

    Quick question:

I got Bennet at 4.1 and now he values 4.2. If he drops, my selling price will still be 4.1 right?

Yup, needs a 0.2 rise the gain 0.1 in value and needs to fall below the price you purchased to lose 0.1.
