Captains

Vote in the Captain poll for Gameweek 18

There is a whole of options for the captain’s armband in Gameweek 18 and now you can cast your vote in the latest poll below.

Manchester City’s home match against Crystal Palace instantly looks like one fixture to target with the defending Premier League champions so dominant at home.

Leroy Sané (£9.6m), Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) are expected to be the most backed Citizens given their form at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Those perhaps unwilling to risk a ticket for ‘Pep Guardiola Roulette’ might look to Tottenham’s Sunday afternoon trip to face Everton.

Harry Kane (£12.6m) may have been sluggish against Burnley but the Toffees are without a clean sheet since Gameweek 13, while the Spurs forward netted a brace amid criticism from Fantasy managers at Goodison Park last season.

Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) and Son Heung-min (£8.5m) may also be considered by anyone with little faith in Marco Silva’s defence.

A return to a more familiar attacking style for Liverpool in their 3-1 win over Manchester United may reinvigorate support for Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) and his colleagues.

Elsewhere, an in-form Eden Hazard (£11.0m) hosts a Leicester City side without a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 11.

Arsenal are the outfit hosting the obliging Burnley defence in Gameweek 18 but it will be interesting to see how much the disappointing scores of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.5m) and Alexander Lacazette (£9.6m), combined with the Clarets’ tight display against Spurs, will affect their share of this week’s vote.

Are we all looking to get United attackers in for the next few now, then? I'll wait and observe the Cardiff game first, but hope it gives me reason to get Martial or Rashford in for the following 2.

Sometimes clubs with a divisive manager only need to get rid to get a bit of a bounce regardless of who the new man is. Coincides nicley with the fixtures.

I think there's definitely potential there.

I'll probably wait a bit to see who looks to be starting. But I've been waiting all year for their assets to start firing and I think I'll be jumping on sooner rather than later!

They say the Caretaker Manager won't be Carrick.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be the current favourite.

His current odds vary from 33 to 1 to 66 to 1 against.

Yes, I had noticed United upcoming fixtures but just ignored them because of how toxic it has been there, but now I’m interested. Like you, I’ll probably just observe the Cardiff game first though. The likes of Martial and Rashford could be about to become great options for upcoming home games against Huddersfield and Bournemouth though.

Fixtures look ridiculously tasty, 6 with FDR 2 in the next 9 and only 1 at 4 or above - yes please.

Lots of potential assets there as well, I'm sure Pogba is busy popping the champagne currently but he'll no doubt want to make a statement. Martial another who's shown great form this season and is definitely worth a look.

Even Lukaku and Sanchez could come onto radars, it's just a shame about the latters injury.

As others have said though, wait and see for now.

Personally I wasn't buying into the latest train of thought that we should be jumping on Man Utd assets due to their upcoming fixtures before Mourinho got sacked, and I definitely ain't thinking of do it now.

I suppose it's a case of wait and see, but they're a far cry from the swashbuckling teams we seen in the past, rampaging and scoring goals for fun. Mourinho's style was always going to stifle that kind of play I suppose, and it'll be interesting to see who they bring in long term.

I wonder what anyone else's view is on how this sacking will affect their players going forward, but for me, it's a wait and see time...

It's about price points for me and who could be worth the gamble.

I'm thinking Martial to see how it goes, and if it flops I can get rid for Richarlison for Everton's good run of fixtures.

Pogba for the same reasons, and he might also be buoyed by the managerial change and will want to prove a point.

Lukaku/Rashford will be options if Auba continues to flop.

I doubt the new caretaker will be defensive, so wont see any of their defence as options.

At that price point, I'd much rather have Andersen.

United aren't going to improve to the level of Arsenal or Spurs any time soon.

The level of Spurs doesn't really excite me much. Along with United, they're one of the most frustrating teams from an FPL perspective this year.

Martial at 7.3 and Bailly at 5.0 seems good value if the interim manager can get them organized.

The annoying thing about Mourinho was he never put the Utd players in a position to play to their strengths. You have Pogba who can't defend and he was asked to do defensive jobs. You have Lukaku who needs crosses into the box and noone was delivering crosses. You have Lindelof who is a right-sided CB and he is playing on the left side.

They don't need to buy new players, they need a manager who will play to the players strengths and not put them in a position where their weaknesses can be exploited (e.g. giving Pogba a marking job at corners, when he clearly can't mark players).

The squad is decent IMO. Better than Arsenal and could compete with Spurs and Chelsea. Liverpool and City are ahead of them. At least two players in every position:

          De Gea
          Valencia Bailly Smalling Shaw
          Matic Herrera
          Sanchez Pogba Martial
          Lukaku

          Romero
          Lindelof Jones Rojo
          Darmian Fellaini Fred Young
          Mata Rashford Lingard

            Darlot, Bailly, Smalling Shaw
            Matic Herrera
            Mata Lindgard Pogba

Wait and see. It will be interesting to see if there is a bounce. Im not so sure there will be. Utd havent been good for some years. A rookie caretaker manager, regardless of the respect he has from the squad wont suddenly polish a turd.

All eyes on Cardiff, I think. I'll be interested to see how the midfielders and stiker(s) line up and perform. I can't see them being a source of many clean sheets, but maybe with some transfer window activity they can shore themselves up.

Worth mentioning Lukaku has never been one to do well in the big games, but with the type of upcoming fixture list, he has always thrived under for as long as I can recall. One good performance from him and if team morale is up, I'll likely be quick to take a gamble away from Kane.

As a humble Norwegian Manchester United supporter I think this is the time to invest in United attack. Martial and Rashford are my targets at the moment. They were even on my radar before the sacking (havent owned a United player all year bar Sanchez in GW1-2).
The team Ole Gunnar Solskjær coached in Norway scored the most goals in the league last year, but also consided a lot of goals. A little worry is that Solskjær likes to rotate a lot, so the likes of Rashford and Martial should be considered as Sterling and Sane. They will miss some games, but still do very good.

I like this. I previously doubled up on Arsenal attack and looking for a way out of Laca (will monitor tonight). Rashford to me seems a great fit. The Laca scenario may become irrelevant if i convince myself enough!!

Attacking, quick, had good form when he has had games. Part of the youth development that the club craves, Cardiff opposition. I currently have 0.1ITB and 2ft that i have no real intention of using this week. Use 1, roll the dice, have a gamble.

        May have convinced myself already...

Should I save? Kola might need to move on, but dunno what to do.

    Pat (Hamer)
Alonso - Kola - Laporte (AWB, Bennett)
Sterling - Sane - Hazard - Son (Hojbjerg)
    Auba - Wilson - Chicharito

Do you think he can do what he did at Chelsea when he first arrived there? He'd get a massive cheque book to buy the best defenders. Not sure the fans would be happy with more dour football

What a terrible decision to sack Jose. The issue wasn’t with the manager. The issue was the board. Mourinho wanted to improve our weaknesses, but wasn’t given the backing. How much better could United have been with Toby or the list of alternatives we were linked with? How are you going to let the man who took LVG’s team and won 3 trophies in one year leave?

He was bad for the club - way too much drama & sulking. Lost the dressing room. Couldn’t get results out of €400m’s worth of players. Made poor signings. Generally played terrible horrible football. Good riddance.

He won 3 trophies in one season, he came second last year only to he beat PL team we’ve probably ever seen. He wasn’t allowed to spend on defence this summer... an area that has been our downfall this year. 29 conceded in 17 games, which is more than we have ever conceded in a season in its entirety in the PL.

He wasn't allowed to spend on defence this summer because he wasted a fortune on it already. Bailly and Lindelof were his choices £65m and utter pants! He fell out with his best player and he's completely lost the plot this season just like he always does in his 3rd year.

Can’t disagree with you on falling out with people.

However, Bailly was injured for the majority of his time.

Lindelof is young and this year he is showing signs of his worth. One to watch, hopefully we remember Jose was the one who signed him in 3 seasons time.

haha. You can buy 10x40m players with that. Get few on a cheap and you can have few 60-80m players in there.

I wish Arsenal had 400m to spend on 10 players.

I agree that Utd's problems are years in the making but when Jose senses things going against him he goes into self-destruct mode to the point that things are irreparable. He's been burning his bridges there for a while now, both manager and club need a fresh start.

Any suggestions what to change on this team:

    Alisson
    Alonso Robbo Cedric (Digne WB)
    Sterling(c) Felipe Hazard Richa (Schurle)
    Chicha Wilson Laca

I'd get rid of Laca. He's unlikely to start many games.

Laca > Firminho and use the spare cash to upgrade elsewhere.

there was a moment towards the end of the Liverpool game when the cameras were on Woodward. He was doing the old talking behind the hand thing to Charlton and the look he threw down to Mourinho on the bench was one of absolute disgust. Thought that's it it's over.

I noticed that too, I think that may well have been the moment. Who otherwise would talk behind their hand in the stands? lol. Funny thing is Woodward is as much to blame as Jose so he should be firing himself aswell!

that's it. Can't have an accountant being responsible for the football. Smallng contract extension nothing to do with football - just trying to see if they can get a better fee when he goes. A couple of other Utd contract extensions for exactly the same reasons.
Woodward had his way Utd would be starting a Chinese and Indian player just for the marketing possibilities.
Consistent theme in Utd's decline since fergie left - Woodward.

I posed yesterday asking what people thought of potentially getting Martial / Rashford or a United Defender... After the news just, Jose sacked... Is one of Pogba / Martial / J Lingz a good signing?

With a good run of fixtures, No Jose...

Well they have a good run of fixtures, so they could be, certainly more chance than they would be under Jose anyway.

BUT, how do we know who will play? We don't even know who the new manager is yet and which players he will favour.

I would be fairly certain Pogba will be straight back in the team, hopefully with pens & playing higher up the pitch. Will be an interesting few GW's watching United!

In a lot of the papers over the weekend Jose would get 24m if sacked before end of Jan. So not sure he's that gutted. Does seem to have been working towards almost since he didn't get the players he wanted over the summer.
