FPL Team News and Injury Round-up – Gameweek 20

Anthony Martial (illness), Romelu Lukaku (personal reasons) and Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) are all back in contention for Manchester United after returning to training, with the attacking trio set to be assessed ahead of the visit of Bournemouth.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

Romelu [Lukaku], Anthony [Martial] and Alexis were [in] light [training] yesterday so hopefully they can join part of the training today and let’s see after they’ve come through.

Marcos [Rojo] and Scott [McTominay] look like they can take part very soon as well, so it’s looking better. Smalling has got a sore foot, so I don’t think we’ll see him until the New Year anyway – maybe not even before Spurs.

Pedro (hamstring) will be unavailable for Chelsea on Sunday, with the Blues likely to be missing another winger in the form of Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring).

That may push Eden Hazard back onto the left flank, though Maurizio Sarri was once again effusive in his praise of the Belgian as a central striker:

He is able to play as a winger and he is able to play in the centre of the pitch. I’m really very happy with him in this position because he’s able to score firstly, but also open spaces for team-mates and come to play with team-mates. I’m happy with him in the position but in the future he can play as a winger of course.

I cannot see the problem of Hazard in this role, he played four matches as a false nine, scored three goals and has three assists, so I’m not able to see the problem.

In this moment we need to be solid and with Hazard in this position I think we can become more solid, it’s a good option for the defensive phase but it depends on the moment.

Shkodran Mustafi (ankle) could return to boost Arsenal’s defensive ranks in Gameweek 20 ahead of their trip to Anfield, where Liverpool will be missing James Milner (muscle).

Serge Aurier (muscle) and Dele Alli (hamstring) will be assessed ahead of Spurs’ match against Wolves, who will again be without Diogo Jota (hamstring).

We won’t hear from Pep Guardiola before tomorrow so we’re still in the dark regarding the availability of Fernandinho (thigh) and Gabriel Jesus (knock), both of whom missed the Boxing Day defeat against Leicester City.

The Gameweek 20 preview section of Manuel Pellegrini’s presser is also embargoed until Saturday morning, so we await information on whether Marko Arnautovic (hamstring) or Javier Hernandez (knock) are able to return to face Burnley.

The Clarets themselves have major doubts over Robbie Brady (knock) and Steven Defour (calf).

Ademola Lookman (ankle) is Everton’s only injury worry for the match against Brighton, who will be missing Mathew Ryan after his departure for the Asian Cup. Chris Hughton confirmed that he is yet to make a decision over which £4.0m-rated goalkeeper he will choose as the Australian’s deputy.

Jonjo Shelvey (thigh) is fit for Newcastle, while Watford will have Will Hughes back after a hip problem.

Simon Francis (ruptured ACL) has suffered a season-ending knee injury and joins Adam Smith and Lewis Cook on the sidelines for Bournemouth.

Wayne Hennessey has recovered from a back problem so Crystal Palace are only without Christian Benteke (knee) for the visit of Chelsea.

Michael Obafemi (knock) looks set to remain unavailable for Southampton after missing the defeat to West Ham.

Claude Puel said that fatigue was an issue for Leicester City ahead of the visit of Cardiff City, who are again set to be without Kenneth Zohore (thigh).

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (unspecified injury) is Fulham’s only injury doubt for the clash with Huddersfield, who have no new fitness concerns.

To those of you who like me are holding onto Alonso for another one of his famous hauls (but they never arrive) are you keeping or selling?

Biggest dilemma for me at the minute, I’ve used my 2 FT this week to bring in Haz so Alonson can it tight. He has to haul soon surely? The minute I shipped Salah the inevitable happened so lighting will likely strike twice if moved on Alonso

      Keeping.

I have no direct need for the funds he would enable so more than happy to hold someone who can explode any given week.

People rip teams up and wildcard to get this guys when he’s rolling.

I've been thinking whether to trade him down for holebas to enable Snoddy - Pogba but yeah i would love a haul

Finally sold this week for Luiz to release funds and ensure I got some profit before he dropped. Fully expect him to haul again at some point but he just isn't the same Alonso due to Sarri's tactics and can get more consistent returns with those funds used elsewhere

      Have Digne, TAA, Doherty already.

Fair enough, I agree I see a city win-I watched Soton last night and they were poor/naive, city could punish.
As a Sane/Sterling owner for the last few weeks, it has been frustrating and wondering whether to cut my losses and get Hazard or just save my ft and reasses

I’m saving and waiting. I’m confident. Sterling captain and sane vice. I’m not worried about it at all really. Others seem to be.. but I guess the want for hazard and pogba has made them want sterling to be benched.

Fair play, I like decisive players in this game.
Knowing when to sell and when to hold makes a good FPL player great.
I’m tending to agree with holding till tomorrow at least!

I was in the balls boat last week when Sterling and Sane goal show was a must, but this didn't happen. And when i dropped off 40k places in overall because of my city duo and hold the trigger for pogba and hazzard it hurts. Yes i thought why i should make a hit when i have potential pointers.... So beleive me it was a pleasure to make the transfers now even later

Tricky. Pogba could easily recover the -4. But if Martial starts then the answer is NO, not for a hit. But impossible to know if he starts.

Mitro would literally be for 1 week I am guessing otherwise not worth it.

      Evening all. Current team is...

      Ederson (Patricio)
      Robertson, Digne, Kolasinac (AWB, Bennett)
      Hazard, Sterling, Anderson, Richarlison (Højbjerg)
      Kane, Wilson, Jimenez

      2FT, 0.5 in the bank.

Toyed with trying to get Salah in for Sterling, but I think instead I'll do Kolasinac -> Pereira and roll the other transfer.

      Sound good?

That’s fine. Bit sideways possibly. I would be more inclined to downgrade sterling and upgrade hojbjerg to be honest. Plenty of points in midfield at good prices. You still have two good captain choices in hazard and Kane. Think that will get you more points in the long run. Good luck.

Thanks mate.... I know what you mean, just a bit worried about the lack of CS prospects in my defence this week!

Sounds good to me pal, I’m going Kola > Pereira myself.

Not a big surprise really considering his price and lack of cs

He played extremely poorly last game. Pep has the perfect opportunity to bring Mahrez in. Mahrez Aguero Sane is the obvious front 3.

I have Hennessey and Ryan. None of which are likely to be playing. Already on a -4, what to do?

I'd rather play no keeper than take -4 for one

Doherty and awb. Don’t see clean sheets for either. Doherty will have his hands full. Can’t see him getting forward much to score.
