Happy New Year from Fantasy Football Scout

A very, very happy New Year to all of our readers and site users.

There’ll be plenty of us seeing in 2019 with one eye on the Gameweek 21 deadline, which passes at 11:30 GMT tomorrow.

I’ll personally be glad to see the back of this festive fixture period and the brutal turnaround time between Gameweeks, which leaves precious little time for meaningful analysis as both a writer and Fantasy manager.

And let’s not get started on those Yuletide pressers, which are variously embargoed, delayed until after a deadline or simply not held at all.

Bah, humbug.

As a long-term frequenter of these pages (the badge might say “1” but I’ve been a loiterer since the days of Puffinboy) I never quite understood the levels of work that Mark, Paul, Joe and the legions of freelance writers put into Fantasy Football Scout before I came on board and I have a new-found appreciation for the toil and time it must have taken to get this site to where it is now.

And where would be we without the mods (insert your own gag here) and tireless tech guys (Ed and Mat) who keep these pages working and swear word-free, round the clock, 365 days a year. I thank you all for your fantastic contributions and for making my life so much easier.

It’s been a mad old first seven months in the job and a steep learning curve but it’s an absolute thrill to be on board, doing something I enjoy and hopefully not completely undoing a decade of graft put in by Mark and co.

Most of all, I thank you the site users for first making myself and David feel welcome upon joining in May and for your suggestions and feedback (mostly constructive) ever since.

Without you, there is no Fantasy Football Scout, and there is no deputy editor’s job. I am massively privileged and fortunate to have ended up doing this as a vocation but I never forget that without someone to read the drivel I put out on a daily basis, I’m out of employment.

One of the things I’ve been most frustrated with so far is simply not having the time to be more hands-on with the community and responding to you more directly, due to the hours required to take care of the bread and butter of the site. Other than retweets and the odd Simpsons reference, I am not particularly active on Twitter either and both things are something I’m hoping to address in 2019.

I don’t want you to feel that any complaints and concerns about the site are falling on deaf ears (hopefully Geoff catches most of them – top work, that man) and I’m hoping that in the pre-season of 2019/20, if not before, we can really give a lot more attention to whatever irks you.

Here’s to a year of green arrows and top 1k finishes.

All the best, folks.

Neale

No concern on Auba minutes? I think I will go for Hazard because he is more likely to play 90 min than Auba. But Kane is always temping because of his mentality of always wanting a goal.

Auba as he is leading in points for forwards and Fulham defence without Chambers who has been their best defender of late. Fact that Morata almost certain to play puts me off Hazard and Kane been playing in too much of a defensive midfielder role

      Yes,

Solskjaer, though, has revealed that Rashford was merely suffering from tiredness and expects the forward to be available. ‘I think he’ll be OK. He’s been working so hard and he’s been a bit tired. I think he’ll be alright,’ the Norwegian said.

    Happy new year guys!

I've been dropping down the ranks for the last month, most recently while carrying 2FT. Lots of players I've wanted, but didn't get because the timing of sales didn't feel right.

I'm still with 2FT and 0.0 in the bank. Anyone stand out as droppable this week?

    Ederson
    Rob - Alonso - Digne - AWB - Bennett
    Haz - Anderson - Richarlison - Lingard - Hojbjerg
    Auba - Kane - Jimenez

Thinking Lingard will get a rest, but no funds to upgrade. Maybe downgrade Robertson?

Should have lost Auba last week, but now he has Fulham at home, while Kane goes to Cardiff. Doesn't feel right.

I think I'm looking for a smaller tweak this week, in prep for doing 2-3 transfers for the next.

      Happy New Year all!

I’m failing to see how Hazard is a better cap than Kane this week. Chelsea have been really inconsistent. Hazard plays better on the wings and he’s probably going to play up top. Southampton are revitalized and gave Arsenal and City a challenge.

Meanwhile, Spurs were in fantastic goal scoring form prior to the blip vs Wolves, and even in that game Kane scored a banger. I don’t think the Cardiff sample point from earlier in the year is valid, Spurs have changed a lot since. My only fear with Kane is that Cardiff is such an easy game that he might be rested.

      Seriously, Hazard cappers, convince me!

Cardiff goal attempts conceded in the box over the last 4 home games: 25
Attempts in box over the last 4 away games: 53
So Cardiff a less favourable fixture when they are at home

Also Moura was rested last GW and I found that Kane tends to have half the number shots on target and xG when playing with Moura as opposed to when Moura doesn't play

Would probably prefer Son of the two - in better form and gets more points for goals

        1. ★Kuntheman★
          • 8 Years

I’ve got Son too, he was my cap before I brought in Kane. Maybe I’ll consider him. You think he gets rested?

Also, their last four away games were against better attacking teams than the last four home games. Think that’s an important factor.

Southampton not kept a clean sheet in 10 games I think

Reverse fixture at St Mary's was 3-0, Hazard got double digits I think

Hjoberg got red carded last time, so there'll be a squad player in defensive midfield upsetting the regular team structure.

Given the other Chelsea injuries (Pedro, Giroud, RLC, Hudson-Odoi...), not much chance Hazard could be rested...virtually 100% guarantee to start.

Spurs were "tired" last time, short turnaround again isn't gonna perk them up.

Slight rotation risk on all Spurs players (including Kane and Son IMO)...reduced minutes likely (certainly more so than Hazard)

Kane still going deep, less effective...players like Son, Moura, Lamela running past him lessen his appeal.

Spurs struggled against Cardiff last time...tight 1-0 win, no Kane involvement, 1pt with a YC

Whenever I've captained anyone playing Cardiff this year it's gone badly...I'm not doing it any more...they're actually defensively quite solid.

        ...is that enough reasons? 😉

Happy New Year mate, you’ve got me thinking. Forgot about how deep Kane drops at times

Solskjaer, though, has revealed that Rashford was merely suffering from tiredness and expects the forward to be available. ‘I think he’ll be OK. He’s been working so hard and he’s been a bit tired. I think he’ll be alright,’ the Norwegian said.

So many close calls that could turn a bad GW into good or very good one!

Fulham missing most of their defence, but I just don't have the balls to captain Lacazette, can't trust he'll play the guts of a full match. Instead going for Kane ahead of Pogba and Salah.

Patricio or Fabianski... still can't decide

      AWB or Snodgrass... ditto
