Fantasy stats: a focus on the lesser-used KPIs and custom table options

Quite a lot of Fantasy analysis on these pages focuses on the same core group of statistics: key performance indicators (KPIs) such as shots on target, shots in the box, big chances and key passes.

There is so much other data available to subscribers in our Members’ Area, however, something that we as editors perhaps overlook too often in our dissections of the underlying stats.

With our half-season memberships available for £10 as of today, we have taken this opportunity to alert new and existing subscribers to some of the lesser-known KPIs and custom search options that could influence our thinking as Fantasy managers.

    Best 4.4 MID?

Going to 4 at the back so need a 4.4 playing 4th mid to join AWB on the bench.

    A) McNeil (has been impressive by all accounts but is a youngster so might be prone to rotation

    B) Puncheon (4.2m, Huddersfield has been poor so should start but will be a big punt to get someone who hasn't started a league game yet)

    C) a more nailed on mid like Hojbjerg (after suspension) or Stephens

      C. Hojbjerg is nailed and loves a long range shot

McNeil is a great shout. Watched him last few games and looks very attacking. Would go with him assuming you don't need the extra in the rest of your team

Yes. If you can't find an extra 0.2m for Camerasa then Hojbjerg is a good shout.

I've heard he's been electric although haven't been able to watch Burnley games so thank you. Hope he can keep his spot, continue to do well with Brady out and best case scenario get a bandwagon going.

Would like to keep my wildcard to make the doubles/blanks a little easier, but the game isn't as fun when you're not doing well, so I'm tempted just to WC to this. Any improvements? (0 ITB)

    Patricio / Guaita
    Robertson / TAA / Doherty / Digne / AWB
    Salah / Sterling / Hazard / Pogba / Camarasa
    Rashford / Arnautovic / Jimenez

      1. +

Not radically so. The wildcard essentially swaps Kane for Salah and then improves the keepers and the defence. Looking at the fixtures, though, I'm not totally convinced Salah outscores Kane over the next six games?

Otherwise you could swap out Lingard (rotation) or Anderson (poor recent form)

Should I do Jimenez to Rashford? Will still allow future transfers like Auba to Kane or Digne + Pogba to Bednarek + Sterling, or even all 3 of I replace Anderson with Fraser.

All three have very low ownership inside top 10K...... it’s what is leaning me towards it.

Don’t think I can, I keep changing my mind. I love Arnie and think he’s amazing value for money, but Auba is top scorer. Not been convinced by Alli yet, whereas Rich should be nailed with great fixtures.

Everyone is going for A or C, but B looks the best to me. I think Aubameyang is going to score the most points out of all these options. Will be close with Sterling but you won't be able to captain Sterling with as much confidence so when you factor that in, B.

Not only. Also I prefer Sané to Sterling until Mendy is back.

Yep, that's what surprised me. We knew Arsenal can't defend this year, but I didn't expect United to be just as bad in terms of total clean sheets. Some really bad defences that routinely get done for 4 or 5 goals, like Bournemouth's or Burnley's, have more CS.

Of course in terms of picking defenders and keepers there are lots of factors to consider - which defenders have attacking potential, and what type of defences allow lots of low % shots that would be conducive to saves. This was just out of curiosity.

A few things that struck me: Palace are amazing for clean sheets! And there's no real discrepancy between home and away for them. Leicester have also quietly been keeping lots of them (1 in 3 is a very good rate).

Of City's clean sheets: they had 8 in the first 13, and then 0 in the last 8.

Indeed it isn't - I should've said 2 or more obviously. In any case, the intention was to list how many times defenders lost points for goals conceded.

If we look at it this way, Wolves' 5 clean sheets are a lot better than Bournemouth or Burnley's 5. Also City have won A LOT of matches 3-1, 4-1 etc. So have Arsenal, it appears.

Special mention to Burnley, whose 12 games with more than 2 goals conceded include 5 games with more than 4 conceded! Although they're now tighter (with Heaton instead of Hart, surprise surprise).

I was surprised by that (and by Palace, for that matter). In that back of my head I had Leicester and Everton as roughly equal, which is very wrong as the summaries show.

Getting Fab in (as much as I love him, was great as my set and forget last season) for Ederson was a mistake and a bit sheepish in hindsight! I should have got the Palace keeper in but was concerned that Henn would return soon.

Had exact money to get rid of my injured Ings and departing Son to Auba + Camarasa.

If you look at United's defensive record I think Spurs players are captain material!

      Can't argue against Aubameyang though.

Could have waited but WHU could concede a few v Arsenal plus I like Camarasa much better than the fodder below 4.6. Not necessarily the right move for this coming GW but think it's a very decent medium term move. Was tempted by Kun but Auba shaded it in the end.

Ah, memories of Aubameyang's 2-pointer when I captained him vs. West Ham on GW3! And, by association, Lacazette's 1-pointer when I captained the time Emery hooked him at HT. I've had terrible luck with my Arsenal forwards - those were two of my four captain fails.

Haha, getting any Arsenal player comes with a high degree of risk but one thing is for certain they will score goals and have a couple of tasty upcoming fix on paper that look goals galore!

Well, one thing I know for sure is that I've got the wrong Arsenal forward 😆

Hopefully whatever Aubameyang scores will be from Kolasinac assists!

Trippier could be the best but risks attached, no LIV defender scares me a little, Alonso looks good for next 4, Digne as you said and AWB could bag plenty of points from most manager's benches over the next 5!

Well threat I meant was attacking potential(both assist and goal) not only goal threat as his end product is pretty poor and I have watched him play.U can see the pattern here too that all these are rbs not lbs plus kola has unreal assist potential. One on one defending is his strength

'0 attacking threat' ridiculous statement imo mate. If Palace could find a bit of attacking form, he would get some attacking returns...the again that's a big if!

0 I meant it's pretty much a longshot..Most matches he has had 0 goal threat and negligible assist threat.Hasnt happened since gw1 and palace don't play with targetmen not that it's impossible

Hi everyone - just activated my WC. This is the team I'm come up with.

    Patricio/Speroni
    Luiz/TAA/Digne/AWB/Doherty

    Kane/Jiminez/Quaner

Hennessy hasn't played last 5 since injury and Guiata 3 from 5 CS except vs City and Chelsea. Gunn not as certain but Patricio and Wolves defence is joke. 1 CS since GW8 Patricio avg 2.3pts a game since then
