Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for Gameweek 22

Mohamed Salah (£13.3m), Eden Hazard (£11.1m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.4m) could be set to do battle for the Gameweek 22 captaincy this week.

You can now vote in the poll below, or in the sidebar, as well as watch our latest captain video on YouTube.

Liverpool travel to Brighton in the hope of getting their title challenge back to winning ways after losing to Manchester City last time out.

In spite of a blank at the Etihad Stadium, only Son Heung-min (£8.8m) has better form than Salah right now, according to the official FPL site.

The Egyptian has three double-figure hauls in his last four Premier League outings, four goals and two assists in his last four away matches.

With Liverpool still in exciting goal-scoring form, Salah’s colleague Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) may also be looked at, with four goals in his last two matches.

However, Hazard should provide stronger competition for Salah, as Chelsea host a Newcastle side still allowing plenty of chances to their opponents.

The Belgian may have blanked in his last two matches and be without a league goal at Stamford Bridge since Gameweek 7, but his underlying data still looks promising, as Fantasy Football Scout members found out recently.

Also providing a compelling case for the captaincy is Arsenal striker Aubameyang, with goals in three of his last four matches.

Meanwhile, West Ham are still without a clean sheet at home since Gameweek 6, when they frustrated Chelsea in a 0-0 draw. Since then, they have conceded 1.88 goals per match at the London Stadium.

Elsewhere, recent high-performing assets at Spurs and Manchester United may be discounted based on the fact that the two sides go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester City options have underwhelmed in recent weeks and they may end up going under the radar once again in Gameweek 22 as Wolves come to the Etihad Stadium.

The newly-promoted side has already frustrated Pep Guardiola’s men once this season, in the 1-1 draw at Molineux back in Gameweek 3. Wolves are also building a reputation for being more defensively sound away from home than in front of their own fans. The only sides to have conceded fewer goals on the road than Wolves this season are Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City themselves.

This week I end up with this defence

    Alonso, TAA, Doherty, Digne, AWB

This is benching headache. One of them must become Bednarek and release some funds.

I was planning for Alonso to Robbo/VVD Pool double up, so he, and TAA are staying. WB is best value for money so he stays too. In the end its Doherty or Digne?

Why would you take out any of them? Just because of benching headache? If you don't need to the money this week, leave Alonso, play him, TAA and AWB. And then take out Alonso for VVD/Rob next week.

With so much options up front I rarely play more than 3 at the back, which means one of defenders sits on 3rd bench spot and never get used.

i would have doherty, digne and taa before all other so either ditch awb for a 3.9 or alonso to 3.9 and save plenty for upgrades upfront and skip on liverpool double up. or if you want to double up go for allison

    2FTs. 0.4itb. Best option? Would Cap Auba/Haz in 1.

    Option 1:
GW22: Schindler >> Bedranek (roll FT)
    GW23: Son+Auba >> Salah+Rashford/Arnie

    Option 2:
    GW22: Son+Auba >> Salah+Arnie

    Fabianski
    Digne • AWB • Kola
    Haz • Son • Rich • FAnders • Martial
    Kane • Auba
    (Button / Schindler / Doherty / Kamara)

I'm struggling to understand why Hazard is second in the captain poll? If you look at his double digit hauls this season against similar opposition, they have all been away from home (with the exception of Bouremouth & Cardiff back in GWs 4 & 5).

For those without Salah surely captaining a City asset at home to Wolves is the better option. Nearly all of City's high scoring fixtures have been at home this season.

Is there something I am missing?

You’re probably right, Newcastle have actually been better and conceded less goals on the road and we know how Rafa sets up for these games.

I hadn't even thought about how Newcastle would set up... Probably even more cause for avoiding a Hazard (C).

Agree with Hazard comment. Disagree with City comment. Wolves defend well and usually only concede low amounts of goals. They also do well against the top 6. I think City will win but it will not be a thrashing. I am debating Auba and Salah at the moment.

I think it will be an open game like at Molineux, but that should suit City, especially at the Eithad. 3-1 would be my prediction.

The hesitancy to captain City forwards is less them and more Wolves' ability to stifle the big teams, particularly away from home. Conceded one at United, Spurs, Arsenal, and similarly one at home to City

I rate Wolves much better opponents than Newcastle. Also Brighton away is not that easy fixture as everyone saying. To be honest in the end it is a coin toss between Auba, Hazard and Salah.

In the end biggest haul will probably come from someone that is overlooked like Kane or Manu assets.

i think richarlison might be overlooked as captain option, most transfered out player this week (punishment for sellers guaranteed as always), playing at home vs BOU who can't defend, i am currently still on hazard with richy as vice but might switch the two before weekend as maverick pick to try to catch lost points in the last 2 gameweeks.

Hazard has a great record against us. Hatrick against us at home last season if I remover right. I think it all depends on if Fernandez is back! Our defence is shoddy without him! Also, where Haz plays is a big one, up top he could destroy us (especially without Fede)

Just posted below that I'm thinking of a punt on Sane(C). But Hazard at home to a very average Newcastle side is a very very good pick on paper despite the negatives (Morata, Benitez tactics, etc).
Between Hazard, Sane & Auba for me.

I'm going with Agüero as c, Salah vc. Wolves have done well vs top sides but the Etihad is where I see that ending. 4-0 / 4-1 or thereabouts is my prediction. If no City attack I'd go Salah over Hazard without giving it much thought.

Hi Guys. Help me please! I don't think there's an easy answer.

I want to change my squad over the next two weeks taking a -8 in the process. I want to do Son/ Auba/ Eriksen/ Snodgrass/ Robertson to Salah / Hazard/ Rashford/ Redmond/ Bednarek but last night's rise for Rashford means I have only the exact money and I think price changes will leave me at least 0.2m away by the weekend.

I wanted to do Eriksen/ Robertson to Hazard/ Bednarek this week

The only choices I seem to have are to get Hojbjerg instead of Redmond but he's banned short term and not as good long term. Or take -12 this week but I think Auba/ Son are better this week than Salah / Rashford

      What do you think ?

How many times have we seen promoted teams do well, only to fall away in the final third of the season? imo Wolves aren't a special case and could well get destroyed. Wouldn't pick Sané ahead of Salah but good pick nonetheless. Good luck.

I'm in a similar position but with Sterling. Initially I was going to captain him but Wolves are decent away and who knows what City side will turn up at the moment. I plan to wait and see what the team is to face Burton, I think it could be Sane, Mahrez and one of Jesus / Aguero. I know it's Monday and there is more rest but if Sterling is benched in the league cup then there is more chance of starting against Wolves.

        Current team :

        Patricio
        Luiz - VVD - Digne
        Anderson - Hazard - Salah - Son
        Mitro - Jimenez - Auba

        Hamer - AWB - Bennett - Hojberg

Have 2 FT and 0.2 ITB. Which move looks best for the next few weeks?

        A. Mitro & Anderson - Firmino & Westwood
        B. Mitro & Anderson - Fraser & Rashford
        C. Mitro & Hojberg - Kamara & Fraser and switch to 3-5-2

Did my transfers early due to price rises:
Son, Sane, Balbuena > Salah, Odoi, TAA (-4)

However, my team is not looking great for this week with Ings out, originally was benching Shaw but now going to have to play him.

        Lloris (Steele)
        Alonso TAA Digne Shaw (Bennet)
        Hazard Salah Rich Pogba (Odoi)
        Kane Jimenez (Ings)

Got 4 players in the spurs vs united game, Jimenez playing city and Pool and Chelsea's respective fixtures I feel are actually not that easy either. Also I have only currently have one playing sub with Ings out and CHO being CHO and he's away to city. Theres no obvious replacement for Ings especially not for a hit so unless I WC I think I'm just going to have to leave it as it is and hope everyone plays.

i see your view but thats why he is captain. Had a bad last 2 weeks, gone from 23k to 80k OR and need a differential to pick it up. I'm hoping city break the trend and aguero has a field day.

I wouldn't say 'would never' but there are some I try to avoid. City and Liverpool are at the top of the list but most of the top 6 are included.

The thing is one of my heavy hitters almost always plays against a weaker team so it's usually not an issue. I try not to captain against City, Liverpool, Spurs, United, Chelsea. Arsenal, Everton. Then it gets a bit more open but it's similar to the order of the table.

Liverpool and City, even bench players vs them. Wolves among the other teams below top 6, Spurs home, Chelsea home is not captain material so avoiding those too. Palace also often keeps it tight vs top 6 teams. But i try to look at more diversity here like there is some teams that suits some teams and not, like this week, Brighton are awful vs Liverpool, lost 5-1 at Amex and 4-0 at Anfield last season.

Wait for news on Sanchez IMO. Came off against Reading with a slight injury. If he is fit to play against Spurs then I can see getting rid of Martial being a good option. If Sanchez is not fit, then Martial will likely start against Spurs and so is worth keeping.

What's your ideal midfield right now?

Obviously there are many ways to do it: 4 or 5 man midfields are possible, very cheap 5th midfielders, cheap forwards enabling expensive midfielders, a few mid-priced midfield options, or a midfield rotation.

Who are the most essential for you? Does captaincy play into it? Who isn't in your ideal midfield that you think could be, or is close?

Salah is a must for me, and I like Pogba as an option. Hazard is in there as well and I'd Richarlison as my fourth. I think a cheap 5th is best, no strong opinion about who that should be.

          Salah, Hazard, Pogba, Richarlison, cheap.

Sterling is the player I'd be most scared of not owning but for me he drops out, just.
One of Kane, Aubameyang, and Aguero up top is the other big hitter included

I would like to get Aguero in but not really able without dropping Kane or one of Hazard or Salah. Kane to Aguero and the I would have 1ml more to upgrade in defence not just sure if it is worth it.., maybe not.

Mine is 4/5 same but instead of a cheap, I preferred KDB which I could afford by ditching Alonso and Robertson (for TAA and Peltier) and acquiring Kamara (ditching Wilsdon) in my WC... Hope it works...

KDB is good choice. I would need some differentials also, though ML is the main target. Want to keep one premium striker for team balance and structure to be able to react if one premium striker starts firing.

I thought of the same re a differential and decided to leave Felipe out and acquire KDB... time will tell if that lowers me down or not... Without a differential, we will be bored to death... My Premium is Kane but honestly, I would prefer Agüero plus getting back Robertson, if only I was not so afraid of Kane

Thinking exactly the same. I've just Kane from Spurs and City atm. Salah too good to ship out same problem with Hazard and Alonso. (and fixtures) Also not sure if transfering Alonso out would even help me enough so might as well keep him.

If the title race will remain between Liverpool and City, and if Spurs will gradually drift down, as logic and experience woudl dictate us, then we must get Agüero in, wisdom says.. at one point...

I wish you good luck with KDB. I tried to get ahead of the curve when he first came back from his ligament damage. I got 1 point and a grand total of 19 minutes out of him before he succumbed to injury. At his price he could be a bargain.

On wildcard ATM and my midlfirld is currently salah hazard pogba Richarlison sterling.

Arni and rash up front. Could play Anderson as a 5th mid and aguero as premium striker. I'm torn ATM but power midfield seems the way to go 🙂

This is mine - my cheap one was Deulofeu who rotated well with Ings (and Jiminez when it came to it). With Ings out he may need to be sacrificed to allow an upgrade to a 6-7m forward.

I have Salah Hazard Pogba Anderson Son.

Happy with it for this GW, even if would prefer Richarlison instead of Anderson (but not worth a transfer imho).

Going fwd, will prob replace Son with Puncheon to upgrade elsewhere. Maybe Anderson to Sterling/Sané, or a defender/fwd.

Chelsea aren't scoring as many goals, but keeping more clean sheets. If Sarri starts to resolve the attacking issues then Hazard would be a top option.

At the moment, the goalscoring teams are City, Spurs (have gone goal crazy), Arsenal (they need to score as they keep conceding) and Utd (OGS trying to be anti-Mourinho style). Liverpool are still being tight at the back.

I actually advocate a 4-5-1 (with Auba up top) or 3-5-2 (with Auba and Jimenez).

                  😀

I can see where you're coming from though: 2, 5, 5, 2, 2 isn't great and there are so many other options firing. I'd consider move him out for Sterling or Sane if I could, possibly. I just think he will tick along alright over the next few and is cheap enough to allow for that.

The 7 you picked are all strong and all could easily score higher than Richarlison

          If I do Ings/Lingard -> Quaner/Sane I will have the following front 8:

          Haz Salah Rich Sane Pogba
          Kane Jimenez Quaner

No Liverpool or Chelsea in defense is a worry tho. But the upside in attack feels bigger. And the cheap enablers in defense can bring home the points anyway in Digne, Doherty and AWB.

problem with TAA is he's not nailed - would you factor this in by spending extra on a nailed bench or rather spend on Luiz or other high 5M defender?

Tough. Doherty and Digne are good picks for me, as is Shaw. So then add a cheap defender (Bednarek) and decide if it's enough, or like you said go Chelsea.

I have Robertson, Shaw, Digne, Doherty, AWB. In a way I feel it's too strong but it's cheap. If I had an extra FT I might do AWB > Bednarek (seems a small thing to do), but I'm also considering Robertson > TAA.

Yeah, tricky, I'm on Robbo, Luiz and Doherty with AWB and Bednarak as set and forget bench players, though AWB rotates with Doherty once or twice when Wolves play MCI and EVE for example.

Luiz vs Digne/Shaw -> are stats overwhelmingly pointing one way or another?

I'm not sold on downgrading Robbo and Luiz to free up enought funds to fund Pereyra -> Sterling tbh.....

I'm not sure on Shaw yet I guess but the fixtures are good enough until GW30. Same with Digne until GW29.

Fair enough, I appreciate your feedback mate - gonna have a look at MUTD defence, guess I am suffering from Mourinho hangover as I dont associate them with cleanies.... think I had Shaw in my GW1 team 🙂

Coming back to the OP, i'll keep a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 structure for now.... question is where the funds go, fourth defender or fifth mid....

Agree, Liverpool is the biggest worry.
Will need to move Doherty or Digne on to get TAA for a couple of hits, or drop getting Sane.

Salah and Hazard in the middle, Auba up top (rather than Sane/Sterling) as these 3 rotate the captaincy nicely over the next 6 GW.

Only way I can justify a 10M+ player is if I put the armband on him every so often....

Midfield atm is Salah - Hazard - Pogba - Siggy - Rich and I am pretty happy with it for the time being.

If I want a premium striker, Lovren will be downgraded to fodder (probably doing this anyway as the rest of my defence is strong), Siggy will become Puncheon and Rondon will become Auba.

If I want a premium mid then Siggy becomes that premium mid and Rondon gets downgraded to Kamara (or Quaner if I can't afford Kamara).

I have Salah Hazard Pogba Richarlison at present. I'm going to bring in Puncheon for Hojberg if nothing crops up this week as I wildcarded late and have two FT's already in the bank. That 0.2m could come in handy down the line.

Since I sold Silva and Aguero through injury and then Laporte on wildcard I am City-less so one option could be Hazard>Sane to allow Rich>Silva later on. I'm not sure though. I think I'll give Haz another week or two hence I may as well do the Puncheon move this week as I'm in good shape.

Current midfield is Hazard Salah Pogba Richarlison Alli

Alli is on a tightrope, but thinking he might do well. Richarlison and Alli have the fixtures over the next six, after that I may well opt for Sterling/Sane or even go triple Utd with Pogba/Martial or Sanchez/Rashford depending if this Utd steamroller continues.

Will be removing Son for Salah after the next GW, and funding it by doing Anderson to a 5.5. Snodgrass, Deulofeu, Brooks, someone like that. Leaving me with:

Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Sane and 5.5ish

My mid is Hazard, Sane, Pogba, Felipe, Camarasa with Kane and Auba up top. Liking this for now.

Currently have salah, hazard, pogba, rich and Anderson in midfield, with Kane up front in a 451. Seriously considering ditching one of Anderson or richarlison next week though to enable Rashford up top also - their fixtures are fantastic.

            Currently have Salah-Hazard-Sane-Richarlison-Snodgrass

I'm not enjoying having snodgrass but I don't like any replacements around that price - so I'm thinking of ditching to go Camarasa, and then upgrading a defender and playing 4-4-2 most weeks. If I was to upgrade Snodgrass it would mean losing a premium - I could downgrade Kane to Rashford and upgrade Snodgrass to Pogba. I definitely want to consider United attack from next week but don't really want to lose Kane before Fulham then 3 home games, and I don't want to lose Sane before huddersfield+newcastle. Maybe I'd consider losing Hazard for Pogba, but then I don't know who I'd upgrade Snodgrass to... It's a difficult conundrum with Hazard+Salah+Kane+Sane eating up too much budget probably.

The midfield I want is Salah, Hazard, Sterling, Pogba, Richarlison.

I could have it but it would involve something like Anderson + Kane > Salah + Arnautovic. Which is hard to justify with Kane's fixtures.

If it weren't for BGW27, my midfield would be Sterling, Sane, KDB (currently Son), Pogba & Martial right now. I don't want to spend the money on Salah, but if I don't end up wanting Alii, Eriksen or Mane next week, I'll have to sell Son for Salah somehow.

            Salah Haz Sane Pog Richarlison
            Auba (Kamara, Quaner)

Still allows a very strong defence and I’ve got Quaner buried last on my bench.

            Hazard, Pogba, Fanderson, Richarlison, Hojboj.

No Salah as he just cripples teams.

No Salah gives me a forward line of Jimenez, Auba and Kane.

Plus double Liverpud D (VVD and TAA).

Rank went up 30k despite Salad's scores. More than one way to play the game, sheepies.

I have a midfield of Salah, Sane, Hazard, Pogba and Camarasa. The forward line up are Auba, Rashford and Jimenez. Didn't have any Spurs player during their festive games and currently assessing the need of Spurs cover after United game. Maybe need to see how Kane is performing without Son in the side and how Man City is performing after Liverpool win.

Two slants to this from my perspective - short term while Spurs and Arsenal have good fixtures, I'm assuming we have either Kane / Auba or both up front.... I currently have this midfield (ordered in terms of how much I think they are essential)

            Salah
            Sane
            Pogba
            Richarlison
Anderson (he is about to be shifted out - possibly for Eriksen / Hazard or similar)

However longer term I'm looking at a power 5 in midfield....
            Salah
            Hazard
            Sterling
            Sane (or KDB)
            Pogba

Funded by having 2 up top (plus Kamara) of Jimenez and Wilson. Defence picks itself anyway - Luiz, TAA, Doherty, AWB and one other (currently Digne in my case). Alonso and Robertson not worth the extra cash over their team mates (although longer term a double up on Pool defence makes sense)

Pogba, Salah, Camarasa, Rich and Snoddy

Will switch out snoddy next week

Not the classic power mid from the sounds of things!

If you where to guess the points for Auba, Haz and Kane the next 5, what would it look like?

          Im thinking somwthing like this:

          Auba next 5:
          WH (A) - 8
          CHE (H) - 2
          CAR (H) - 12
          CITY (A) - 2
          HUD (A) - 12

          Haz next 5:
          NEW (H) - 5
          ARS (A) - 5
          BOU (A) - 10
          HUD (H) - 10
          CITY (A) - 2

          Kane next 5:
          MAN (H) - 2
          FUL (A) - 12
          WAT (H) - 6
          NEW (H) - 12
          LEI (A) - 9

          Auba tot: 36
          Haz tot: 32
          Kane tot: 41

Ok, my view- I think you are being a bit optimistic

            Auba next 5:
            WH (A) - 6
            CHE (H) - 5
            CAR (H) - 9
            CITY (A) - 2
            HUD (A) - 6

            Haz next 5:
            NEW (H) - 10
            ARS (A) - 5
            BOU (A) - 9
            HUD (H) - 8
            CITY (A) - 2

            Kane next 5:
            MAN (H) - 5
            FUL (A) - 9
            WAT (H) - 8
            NEW (H) - 6
            LEI (A) - 6

            Aub Total = 28
            Hazard Total = 34
            Kane Total = 34
