Hazard returns to false-nine role ahead of Newcastle meeting

Eden Hazard (£11.1m) returns to his false-nine role for Chelsea as Newcastle come to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

That’s because both Pedro (£6.3m) and Willian (£7.3m) come back into the team to operate as the wide-men in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.

The Blues are as usual both in defence and midfield, with eyes on Marcos Alonso (£6.7m), who lost another 100,000+ owners ahead of the Gameweek 22 deadline.

Hazard and company will be targetting a weak Newcastle central midfield with Jonjo Shelvey (£5.3m) and Mohamed Diame (£4.8m) out, and Ki Sung-yeung (£4.7m) away on international duty.

Lining up in that position are the inexperienced Sean Longstaff (£4.5m) and Isaac Hayden (£4.3m).

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Alonso, D Luiz, Rüdiger, Azpilicueta; Kovacic, Jorginho, Kanté; Willian, Hazard, Pedro.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Yedlin, Lejeune, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie; Pérez, Longstaff, Hayden, Atsu; Rondón.

      Yes, but didn't look great. Slow and pretty cautious. Kinda regretting ditching Robbo to free up cash now. Here's hoping he's back to full fitness shortly.

    2FT:

    A) Auba + Son -> Salah + 1: Jimenez / 2: Wilson

    B) Hazard + Son -> Salah + 1: Fraser / 2: Pereyra / 3: Nasri

    C) (-4) Son + Sane + Martial -> Salah + Nasri + Fraser

    I've decided to triple up at the back on Lpool (Robbo, TAA, Alison) in an attempt to counter no Salah. Is this a sustainable strategy to we think? Paid off today and the fixtures look decent

    1. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

      Not sustainable, imo. Soon the template will be Robbo/TAA/Salah, which means its essentially Allison vs Salah and Salah wins. Of course, there's also all the money you could be spending without Salah.

      Not a bad idea, one of my ML rivals has done the same...ok if they all stay healthy. Might be more cost effective but no Salah captain option.

        Yea, got Kane, Haz and Sane as possible captain options but I seem to have picked the wrong one every week for the past month and a bit, and slid from 7.5k to outside 100k! Feel I need to try something different to try and climb back up again

    Am I right in thinking one of Kane and Hazard will have a blank week depending on who wins out in the League Cup?

    In which case as someone who will probably need to lose one of them to bring in Salah it might make sense to wait until I know who has a blank and who doesn't?

      I wouldn't get TAA unless you already had another Liverpool defender, or at least had a strong bench.

      He was carrying something this match, for sure, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him benched.

      On wildcard I dropped Robertson for TAA, and TAA was dropped. Robertson/VVD/Allison just provide a lot more secutriy of starts.

      Hazard can score versus Arsenal, but agree Salah is becoming more and more or a priority. Palace may be a similar game to Brighton though - they've been fairly resolute at the back.
