Hazard returns to false-nine role ahead of Newcastle meeting

Eden Hazard (£11.1m) returns to his false-nine role for Chelsea as Newcastle come to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

That’s because both Pedro (£6.3m) and Willian (£7.3m) come back into the team to operate as the wide-men in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system.

The Blues are as usual both in defence and midfield, with eyes on Marcos Alonso (£6.7m), who lost another 100,000+ owners ahead of the Gameweek 22 deadline.

Hazard and company will be targetting a weak Newcastle central midfield with Jonjo Shelvey (£5.3m) and Mohamed Diame (£4.8m) out, and Ki Sung-yeung (£4.7m) away on international duty.

Lining up in that position are the inexperienced Sean Longstaff (£4.5m) and Isaac Hayden (£4.3m).

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Alonso, D Luiz, Rüdiger, Azpilicueta; Kovacic, Jorginho, Kanté; Willian, Hazard, Pedro.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Yedlin, Lejeune, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie; Pérez, Longstaff, Hayden, Atsu; Rondón.

    A concept many struggle with is that you can’t replace every underperforming player.

    Someone like Alonso you don’t just sell because he’s not performing for his price. You need a spare transfer firstly and a clear plan to allocate those funds.

    Holding someone like Alonso or Ederson is a sign of a competent FPL manager unless they meet those terms.

    So basically guys only move if you have a plan.

      This has been my plan for a while. Would’ve paid off this week for a minus 8 unless Son goes mental.

      Took me two seasons to work out that first sentence. Although I disagree that you need much of a plan to sell Alonso - basically anyone is a better option (cue goal).

          You've lost me with this post. Selling Alonso leaves you with funds to strengthen weak areas of your team.

          People held onto Alonso for sentiment hoping the 15 pointer arrives and it will, in the meantime the likes of VVD and Robbo have cleaning up with attacking returns.

            Maybe I’m expressing myself badly!

            I just hate downgrading him to have spare funds. I’d rather know why I’m downgrading Alonso. As if there was no budget he’d be in my team for sure, despite him not living up to his price! If I knew I wanted double pool defence over him that’s fair enough but not just downgrade to Bamba so I have 2.2 ITB and no idea when or how I’ll use that money.

      It's a fine line between resisting a kneejerk and being stubborn.

      Resisting a knee-jerk is sense.

    Earlier in the season, Hazard and Sarri were talking about Hazard scoring over 25 goals this season. What happened to Eden's motivation to do that? Seems like he has already left Chelsea in his mind.
