Aguero on the bench as Sterling and Sane start on the flanks for City

Manchester City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening in the final match of Gameweek 22, with kick-off at the Etihad at 20:00 GMT.

Sergio Aguero has recovered from the illness that forced him to miss the 7-0 and 9-0 wins over Rotherham United and Burton Albion respectively but the Argentinean striker is only named among the substitutes this evening, as Gabriel Jesus gets the nod to lead the line.

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane will be flanking the Brazilian tonight, while City’s midfield three of Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Fernandinho remains unchanged from the victory over Liverpool – meaning Kevin De Bruyne has to be content with a place on the bench.

Danilo gets the nod at left-back despite Fabian Delph‘s return from a three-match ban.

Nuno Espirito Santo has made two changes from the strong starting XI that defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup last Monday, with Matt Doherty and Rui Patricio replacing Ruben Vinagre and John Ruddy.

Diogo Jota is once again paired with Raul Jimenez in attack, with Joao Moutinho being deployed as the “number ten” behind Wolves’ strike pair.

Leander Dendoncker gets only his second league start of the season in central midfield.

The reverse fixture of this match ended 1-1, with Aymeric Laporte‘s header cancelling out a controversial opening goal from Willy Boly back in August.

Aguero was the fifth-most-captained FPL asset of Gameweek 22, while four Wolves’ players – Doherty, Patricio, Jimenez and Ryan Bennett – are among the nine most-benched Fantasy assets of this round of fixtures.

Sterling hasn’t scored more than six FPL points in a single game since Gameweek 14 but his season-long average of 7.1 points per match is second only to Mohamed Salah among FPL midfielders.

City are the only Premier League club without a clean sheet since the start of December, while Wolves haven’t kept a shut-out on the road since Gameweek 8.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Danilo; Fernandinho, Silva, Bernardo; Sane, Sterling, Jesus.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-1-2): Patricio; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Jonny, Dendoncker, Neves, Doherty; Moutinho; Jimenez, Jota.

    A) Kane/Richarlison > 5.7/Salah for free?
Happy with 3-5-2 for a bit and Rashford and Jiminez have reasonable fixtures.

    B) Original plan Anderson/Haz > Puncheon/Salah (2FT), Kane > Aguero/Auba -4, back to 3-4-3

With one good fixture in the next 7 is it worth shifting Fraser this week to Alli/Eriksen for a -4?

    A) Alli
    B) Eriksen
    C) Hold Fraser

Disagree. Even if news comes through today, it won't be official news I doubt, so no red flag.

He will probably fall once more even if Kane is out, if Kane is 100% fine then he will not rise. He's already at -15%. So he'd have to make up 150% to rise by the time the Kane news drops.

    Morning guys,
After some thoughts I think I have reached to a conclusion that whenever I scored big it's generally because of defense firing all together.
So thinking about beefing up defense.
Please select one of below options.

    A. Allison,Fodder
    Robbo,Digne, Doherty,Periera,AWB

    B. Fabs, Fodder
    Robbo, Digne, Doherty,taa, Pereira

    C. Fabs,fodder

And yes one more question if Kane out
    1. Play Kiko home to Burnley
    2. Kun (-4)
    3. Jimmy(-4) & get Raz & Moura next gw
    4. Bobby firmino (-4)

A from the top. Allison stand out keeper choice.

1 is the safe bet from the bottom without solid news on Kane, if for just next GW.

Otherwise 2. Jesus minutes put my Auba to Aguero move on hold. But that could also mean Aguero gets more minutes next time out, so worth a punt I suppose..

I just sold Alonso for Robertson and decided to keep Son on the bench for now.

I could (i) sell him for Alli this week (and bench Auba), or (ii) sell him next week, or even (iii) save one or two transfers by simply waiting for his return.

I'm thinking that saving transfers is vital in the lead up to the Blanks and Doubles unless you're confident that a hit is worth it. We'll have more information next week, regarding which extra two teams will be joining City and Everton as blankers, as well as whether Son has made the Asia Cup final (Korea play 3 knockout games in the gap between GW23 and the start of GW24 https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/19702171).

How are others approaching transfers as things are about to hot up again after a very brief lull since Christmas? Anybody thinking of keeping Son or benching Aubameyang? 😆

Had Son very early so I'm going to bank on that profit before the next price drop. For all I know he may have a blank right after he comes back anyway, so I don't see the point keeping. Oh, and now that Kane is almost certainly out I'm missing reliable captain options, so it would be silly not to do Son to Salah.

Serious question about Arsenal - are they in a better state now than they were a year ago under Wenger? This team right now looks seriously unbalanced to me now that Emery is deliberately leaving out the only midfielders capable of creating anything.

To the untrained eye it looks like it's exactly the same team as last year, except with a worse defence and without any creators.

    1. Deulofail
      • 8 Years

Dumbfounded by the Ramsey and Torreira benchings. Was there never an explanation? I didn't look into it. If they played, I feel like our whole conversation this week would be different, and Aubameyang wouldn't have fallen in price. The problem is that we don't know if Emery will do it again.

      1. Pierce34
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

I don't think there were any explanations, other than the usual leaving out Ozil 'for tactical reasons'.

From highlights and stats it looks like Lacazette was better than Aubameyang vs. West Ham, so I fully expect him to be benched next week.

Letting Rambo leave is not right decision imo. They look great & create hell lot of chances when he is on the pitch.
And yes I think Emery is still getting used to difficult PL right now. Should wait till next season to judge him & team performance.
      He is stubborn though.

I feel like Emery is getting lots of little decisions and details right, but forgetting about the basics. I would normally trust in a pofessional manager over my limited instincts but what was he playing at!??? 😆

          Yeah.
Like I said he'll get better next season imo.
PL is hard for foreign Managers too just like player's to adjust tactics, different speed & physicality of game & most importantly busy schedule.
I saw on show of FPL on TV that amongst all teams Arsenal changed highest number of players in 11 during festival schedule.

He needs to be less stubborn though wrt playing laca,Rambo etc.

And yes Rambo should not go.

Rambo leaving I can deal with, but benching him while leaving Ozil out and paying them both a decent wage is just...... no words. I can't see how it was hard to see how well Ramsey has played when on the pitch this season, and how he's changed the game. Emery even wanted to build the team around him originally. I don't think it's because he's a foreign manager, I think it's something else, but I don't know what.

Starting to hope he's only a temporary solution to #wengerout even though that sounds reactionary. It was the first narrative I heard upon the mention of his name before he got the job.

              Yeah.
Board might have something to say maybe about playing time of Rambo since he is leaving/forced to leave/being greedy (take what you like 😛 )
Ozil/Rambo should play in midfield 3 and they'll create chance again.
I like Laca too so think him playing lot minutes could also help.
Giving 350k to Ozil has proven to be the wrong choice though by the look of it.

Emery made about 18 or 19 half-time subs this season. If I work for a boss like this I would not be very happy. Clueless set-up and (in my imagination) toxic dressing room.

Which one of the following would you bench?

      A) Siggy vs sou - Not looking very threatening lately, Digne overshadowing him creatively too, and has taken some of his set pieces. Still on penalties though.

      B) Rondon vs CAR - Newcastle are not creating much, nor scoring many goals, but he has been involved in 75% of Newcastle's goals in home games when on the pitch. Cardiff concede a lot of chances, but Newcastle don't create many. The stoppable force meets the movable object.

      C) Jimenez vs LEI - Leicester don't tend to concede too many goals, and Wolves have been very inconsistent against teams outside of the Big 6 - however, he's more likely to assist than Rondon, and he's also on penalties.

Hmmm, quite a tough one that actually. I would take Siggy out of that equation, leaning towards Jimenez but wouldn't surprise me to see Newcastle vs Cardiff end up 0-0, I think now I'm leaning towards Rondon.

        1. stat

The funny thing is I brought in Rondon as a one week punt against Fulham (H) - by that point, Fulham had conceded at least 2 goals in every away game, and Rondon was in decent form too. He blanked, but he then got me 8 points 2 weeks later when I started him against Watford.

Presuming Kane is going to miss a couple of GW's which is looking certain.

                a) Kane -> Rashford (-4)
                b) Kane -> Firmino (-4)
                C) Kane + Kamara -> Firmino + Rashford (-8). Leaves 0.7m to upgrade Holebas to TAA next GW.

                Fabianski.
                Doherty, Digne, Bednarek, Holebas.
                Salah, Pogba, Sane, Rich.
                *Kane, Auba.
                Hamer, Camarasa, AWB, Kamara.

                Robertson Doherty Digne
                Salah Hazard Pogba Richarlison Lingard
                Rashford Jiminez

                Button Alonso WB Kamara

                Do I take a hit?

                A) Alonso > TAA
                B) Lingard > Eriksen/Alli/Sane
                C) Hold

Decent team, but I'd definitely be doing both A & B in the next week or two.
Lingard to any of those 3 would be a good move. I'd go Sane first, then Alli.

                Any thoughts here?
                (A) Kane > Auba this week
                (B) Anderson > Sterling/Hazard this week and start Digne. Will do A next week.

Kane to Auba. Youll want him vs Cardiff in two weeks and kane will prob not train this week so he won't be match ready

I would do A next week and bring him in the for Cardiff game.
