Aguero on the bench as Sterling and Sane start on the flanks for City

Manchester City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening in the final match of Gameweek 22, with kick-off at the Etihad at 20:00 GMT.

Sergio Aguero has recovered from the illness that forced him to miss the 7-0 and 9-0 wins over Rotherham United and Burton Albion respectively but the Argentinean striker is only named among the substitutes this evening, as Gabriel Jesus gets the nod to lead the line.

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane will be flanking the Brazilian tonight, while City’s midfield three of Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Fernandinho remains unchanged from the victory over Liverpool – meaning Kevin De Bruyne has to be content with a place on the bench.

Danilo gets the nod at left-back despite Fabian Delph‘s return from a three-match ban.

Nuno Espirito Santo has made two changes from the strong starting XI that defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup last Monday, with Matt Doherty and Rui Patricio replacing Ruben Vinagre and John Ruddy.

Diogo Jota is once again paired with Raul Jimenez in attack, with Joao Moutinho being deployed as the “number ten” behind Wolves’ strike pair.

Leander Dendoncker gets only his second league start of the season in central midfield.

The reverse fixture of this match ended 1-1, with Aymeric Laporte‘s header cancelling out a controversial opening goal from Willy Boly back in August.

Aguero was the fifth-most-captained FPL asset of Gameweek 22, while four Wolves’ players – Doherty, Patricio, Jimenez and Ryan Bennett – are among the nine most-benched Fantasy assets of this round of fixtures.

Sterling hasn’t scored more than six FPL points in a single game since Gameweek 14 but his season-long average of 7.1 points per match is second only to Mohamed Salah among FPL midfielders.

City are the only Premier League club without a clean sheet since the start of December, while Wolves haven’t kept a shut-out on the road since Gameweek 8.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Danilo; Fernandinho, Silva, Bernardo; Sane, Sterling, Jesus.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-1-2): Patricio; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Jonny, Dendoncker, Neves, Doherty; Moutinho; Jimenez, Jota.

    Lingard and Kamara to Puncheon and Rashford (-4)?

      Kamara > Puncheon makes a lot of sense, but Lingard > Rashford for a hit might not be worth it. Let's be honest, it's not likely Kamara > Puncheon will score you many extra (if any extra) points at all this season, despite it making sense.

        Well it's mainly to allow the switch from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3. If I could do Lingard to Rashford for free (if they were the same position), I would.

            I was just explaining my reasoning for isolating Lingard > Rashford as the hit, since usually you would factor in both transfers, even if one of them was mostly going to be on the bench

        Plus the lack of CM options. Would love to see him up top but could easily see him in a midfield 3 with Winks and Eriksen. Then Lamela, Lucas, and unfortunately Llorente up top.

          Saw him involved in highlights against United, which is promising for form, but of course that was with Kane as support, not without. I nearly bought him for Son this week (still could), but looking to hold Son for at least another week for info, probably

            I'm at the point of the season where I willing to do a make or break transfer. Been hanging between 40k-80k range for awhile, need to shake things up and if it fails, oh well, it's just a game. Auba, Kane, Anderson/Rich, Martial > Rashford, Jimenez/Firmino, Salah, Alli -8

    Thinking of doing Kane, Hazard & Snodgrass > Salah, Alli & Jimenez? (-4)

    Could just do Kane & Snodgrass > Salah & a 6.1 or less striker for free but is there anyone priced around that?

    Assuming Kane out for 3+ weeks, who would be the priority move, Kane or Son out? Could I sit on one for another week to avoid taking a hit?

          Bottom line, whoever you get this week should be the highest point replacement or you threw points away. Do you really think Auba will beat those others vs Chelsea?

            A Home, I give good odds. Plus he's got 4 home games in 6. The other move would likely be Son to Moura/Eriksen/Alli and that's a tougher decision for me.

        I want Aubameyang as captain the following week. I could still get him for Son if I downgrade Auba to Jimenez, but I'm not convinced Jimenez is prolific enough to be in my XI, and I'm not desperate since I have a decent defence with decent fixtures, for the most part. Son could be back for GW 24, you never know.

        Apparently Ranieri wouldbe happy to let Kamara go after a bust up between Kam and Mitro in training (during Yoga??), so it could be the end of him unless he moves somewhere else in the prem.

          Haha, it's all about points - I would've preferred my team with Kane and a City mid for the next few weeks, but now without Kane I won't be able to trust a City mid with the armband every week - hence getting Salah.

    Do I go for the reliable Dane or the streaky Alli that will be the question later in the week?
    Kane + Camarasa to Rashford + Alli/Eriksen
    Alli trolled me last season when I held him through a run of blanks which hit my rank hard! Once bitten, twice shy but he could be gold in Kane's absence if playing false 9 with the possibility of pens in his locker?

          Oh, I thought he is saying that Jimenez will be for free and Aubameyang for hit.

          Depends who will start in place of Kane, of no decent player, then ots worth a hit.

            Thanks a lot,
            I will have to start AWB/Puncheon so will just take the hit I guess..

    Assuming Kane is out what transfers would you do?

    A) Kane -> Rash
    B) Kane + Martial -> Rash + Sterling/Sane -4
    C) Kane + Fabianski -> Rash + Lloris -4
    D) Kane -> Aguero (risky)

    Leaning towards B and C.

      B with Sane
      Wouldn't bother doing a keeper switch for a hit (effectively)

        You might find out after this GW that Spurs have a blank in GW27 (likely) and that could be an issue for your team (same goes to you, Il Fantasista with both A and B, as Sterling is almost certain to blank in GW27 too). Depends on the rest of your team, as usual 🙂

      If you don't have any other City mid... then it make sense to have one.

    Which transfer would you make first?
    (A) Anderson > Hazard/Sterling
    (B) Kane > Auba
    If I go A I’ll be playing Digne with Kane on the bench for one week until I do B the following week.
