What next for Spurs and FPL managers after Kane ruled out until March?

On Tuesday afternoon, Fantasy Premier League managers were told that Harry Kane (£12.5m) would be out until March.

The injury news is a landmark event in this 2018/19 campaign as mass sales are expected, and a potential shift in the FPL template with it.

The Spurs man had previously registered attacking returns in 10 of his last 12 Premier League matches and was proving a useful asset to own.

With him now not returning to training until early March following damage to ligaments in his ankles, there is suddenly a lot of money to spend.

Marcus Rashford (£7.4m) feels like the obvious alternative, having averaged seven points per game over the last seven Gameweeks.

The Manchester United forward seems fully capable of sustaining that run of form, with 10 shots on target in the last four matches, the second best in the league.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils’ have an appealing run of fixtures which sees them host Brighton and Burnley next, before travelling to Leicester and Fulham after that.

Moving to Rashford instead of the more expensive Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.3m) or Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) could also allow greater spending in midfield.

However, aside from Rashford, or perhaps for those already in possession of him, there may still be some interested in the fact that Spurs themselves have appealing fixtures of their own – and reasonably priced options too.

They visit Fulham in Gameweek 23 which looks the perfect opportunity to show how they can perform without Kane.

After that, it’s home meetings with Watford and Newcastle, neither of which look particularly sound at the back this season.

Of course, the key question for Spurs is who replaces Kane in the centre-forward role, especially with Son Heung-min (£8.7m) going off to the Asian Cup with South Korea.

Given his country’s standing in that continent, they are one of the favourites to win the competition so the former Bayer Leverkusen star could be unavailable until nearly the start of February.

Could that mean Fernando Llorente (£5.6m) has to stick around at Wembley for longer than expected, considering he was looking likely to leave in the January transfer window?

According to the local press, there does seem to be a chance the Spaniard could start against Fulham at least.

Llorente has come in for some praise of late with a hat-trick against Tranmere in the FA Cup while he was credited with helping fashion some chances for Kane in the closing stages of Spurs’ defeat to Manchester United last time out.

While that’s not much to set the world on fire, it might be enough for Pochettino to consider him, as the only recognised centre-forward truly available to him.

As we said, that’s the view of the local press anyway, who were keen to report than Vincent Janssen is “not in my plans” in the words of Pochettino himself.

The only other alternatives to fill Kane’s boots on the pitch from a positional sense are Lucas Moura (£6.8m) and Erik Lamela (£6.1m), both of which have some experience playing in a false-nine role.

The former was actually playing in a more advanced position to Kane earlier this season, so that could easily be repeated against Fulham.

However, he is still fighting to be fit in time after picking up a knee injury against West Ham.

Also, whether Moura can play as a lone striker remains to be seen, as he had the close support of Kane when deployed as a forward back in September and October.

With options in the academy reportedly not in a position to step up at this stage, maybe the only other player that could be turned to is Dele Alli (£8.9m).

He also has some experience of leading the line and actually has a history of doing well when Kane is not in the side.

Since the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Spurs have played 14 games where Kane has either been completely absent or has had a cameo, and of those, they have won 10, drawn three and lost only once.

In those matches, the top-scorer for Pochettino’s men is Alli with 10 goals although it must be said that Son played a big part in these games too, meaning the Englishman wasn’t used as the forward.

What Spurs do with the striker position at this point remains unclear but there are still potential risky avenues that could reap rewards.

Anyone of Llorente, Moura or Lamela being handed the furthest forward place in a side as threatening as Spurs would deserve serious consideration when you look at their remarkably cheap price points – it’s just whether Pochettino can keep their attacking output at a similar level with Kane as well as Son.

    2ft this week. Thoughts?

    A) Kane Ings Robbo -> Aguero Rashford TAA for -4
    B) Kane -> Aguero and roll transfer
    C) Kane Ings ->Rashford Firmino

    I’m concerned that a rested Aguero may be back this week with a big score ( I have no city attack).

      Hard C. Robbo is too good to drop, Aguero too uncertain now with Jesus finally aquiring some form, and TAA is injured.

          Like i replied earlier, the situation was vastly different then. Aguero could very well come good, we all know he`s Peps main man and we all know the qualities of Aguero and City attack in general, but at the moment he`s too much of a risk for me to consider. The main reason we got him ahead of the midfielders at the start of the season was the rotation threat, imo that has now been nullified and he`s just as likely to be rotated as any of the mids.

            How are u basing that on a brace vs wolves.U could have easily said the same when Jesus hattied in UCL.How that time no one was concerned but now the concern is what I mean?

              Because its just not based on the Wolves game. Jesus has now started 5 of the last 6 league games and done really well.

              Like I said to you before. Midweek CL game followed by weekend PL game is completely different to weekend PL game followed by weekend PL game. Jesus starting in the PL ahead of Aguero (especially vs Wolves who are not pushovers) is huge IMO.

      I normally don`t take hits for defenders, but in your case i would monitor Camarasa`s fitness before deciding. He might get something against Newcastle, as they`re absolutely woeful.

    Current team- Would u leave it as is until next GW or make a move.
    Thinking maybe Kamara-> Firmino (another -4) may be worth it especially .

    Fabianski.
    Doherty, Digne, Bednarek, Holebas.
    Salah, Pogba, Sane, Rich.
    Rashford, Auba.
    Hamer, Camarasa, AWB, Kamara.
    -4, 5.5m ITB

    1. Kamara -> Firmino.
    2. Camarasa-> Alli.

    1. TeamSteam
      • 11 Years

      Either could pay off, Firmino obviously more on form and playing for better team - but positionally they`re playing pretty similar.

      Camarasa still has quite a lot of value (especially if he's healthy), whereas Kamara seems worthless moving forward, which makes the decision seem pretty obvious.

      But I'm not totally confident either one of Dele or Firmino is assured of making an impact this week that justifies a -8 hit. However, I've already got Firmino and am very likely to be taking a hit to acquire Dele myself, so...

    Decent fixtures, MCY aside, perfect (c) option in the 27 blank, and a decent fixture afterwards too, by whch point we're in full DGW planning mode, and we have no idea how that looks yet

          I was going to get rid of him before Kane`s injury, obviously now i`m sticking. He might get something against Chelsea as these games tend to be all over the place, but i`d be very surprised if he scores against City. The games inbetween are good though, but Arsenal as a team are so unreliable as well and they have very little creativity atm.

    The last few days have been a nightmare for me gamewise.

    Before the last GW I had 2FT and was planing to bring in Salah and Rashford, but decided to stick with Auba (C) and Kane. We all know how did that go.

    After the games I got inn Salah and Rashford for Auba and FAnderson for 2FT. Than I did a -4 to bring inn TAA for Alonso. Than Kane got injured and I did another -4 to take him out and bring back Auba. 🙁

    How many Pool/Man U players do you have atm/
    Gw 27 with Citeh, Everton and Chelsea/Spurs out You could find yourself with 6 players playing in the same match without alternatives.
    In my view:
    Keep Auba and an Arsenal defender
    Keep a hammers asset and Fabianski.
    AWB will be on your teamsheet.
    Maybe one each of Bournemouth, Wolves, Watford, leicester.
    Think twice about Burnley and Brighton assets.

      I'd been considering that but after giving it a lot of thought, it Could go wrong for a hit, he does have bournemouth after all. Wait a week imo, gives you time to check up on spurs and if Anderson blanks v Bournemouth then you can get rid of him without any lingering doubt.

    Is Lamela enough TOT-Cover for Kane?

    Kane & Kante -> Aguero & Lamela (-4)
    Kane & Kante -> Erikson & max. 8Mio. Forward (-4)
    Kane -> Aguero (for free) with no TOT

    Rest of the "Offense":
    Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Camarassa
    Aula, Rashford

      I got him. Low risk replacement with Son gone as well.

    Help please.

    Current team:
    Fabianski, Button
    TAA*, Digne, Luiz, Jonny, AWB
    Salah, Pogba, Rich, FAnderson
    Kane*, Auba, Jimenez

    1FT

    A) Kane & TAA -> Aguero & Robertson (-4)
    B) Kane & TAA -> Rashford & Robertson (-4)
    C) just one of the above Kane transfers and play Jonny this week
    D) Kane, TAA & FAnderson -> Rashford, Robertson, Sane/Sterling (-8)
    E) Wildcard

    Rank is high so not having Rashford given his ownership is quite a big risk. But having no city this week doesn’t feel right!

    Morning all!

    Is it worth taking a -12 to get in Sane? (Would remove Richarlison for the hit). I feel like he could do well this week and have no City cover.

    (-8 already done for Kane to Rash and Trent to Roberston)

    current team for this week

    Fab
    Digne, Doherty, Robertson
    Pogba. Salah (c), Fraser, Richarslison
    Auba, Jiminez, Rashford (v)

    Subs: Hamer, Luiz, Wan B, Billing

    thanks

      It's only a - 4, you can't take a 12pt hit on a transfer. That said I think it's worth a 4pt hit.

    Why is no1 talking about Lloris? Spurs have great fixtures and hes only 5.4

    Is it worth me dropping Eriksen or could he shoulder more responsibility now and be on the points? Would he take pens over Llorente?

    Got £0.5m ITB so can get Sane in (Have Aguero, what a joy that’s been) but last time I had Sane he blanked 3 games in a row.

    Thoughts?

      I'd be more confident in sane than Eriksen. Get sane imo, I think Eriksen will have a deeper midfield role with sissokho out too.

      I think I'm more tempted by Alli, he seems to step up when no Kane, and would guess he would take pens?
