FPL Team News and Injury Round-up – Gameweek 23

Despite media reports earlier in the week ruling Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee) out for up to a month, the England defender may make a shock return to the Liverpool squad for the visit of Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp said in Friday’s presser about Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum (knee):

Gini and Trent, we will decide day by day. We will see.

For both, it will be really, really close for tomorrow. I don’t want to close any doors before anybody tells me I have to.

The Liverpool boss said of his other injured players:

Dejan [Lovren] is much better than he was but that’s a muscle thing and needs time. I’m pretty sure he can be involved against Leicester.

Joe [Gomez], no, improving, we hope it will be quick from now on. Joel [Matip] has trained normally for ten days.

Adam [Lallana] trained yesterday and the day before yesterday, so he should be in contention. We have to see. I’ll wait for the session today, how he reacted to the two – not too tough – sessions, but we did a little bit.

Liverpool will be up against a Crystal Palace side without Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey (muscle problems), so 39-year-old Julian Speroni looks set to start between the sticks.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (back) is Chelsea’s only confirmed absentee, with Alvaro Morata (hamstring) available for selection.

Maurizio Sarri, however, seemed to imply that Eden Hazard would start centrally, saying the following:

Tomorrow will be a very difficult match for the defensive phase, so we need our team to be balanced on the pitch.

The Chelsea head coach had previously said that he prefers Hazard as the spearhead of the Chelsea attack as it helps make his side more secure at the back.

Arsenal only have Henrikh Mkhitaryan (ankle), Rob Holding (ACL) and Danny Welbeck (ankle) unavailable, though the fit-again Mesut Ozil‘s involvement is still in question.

Unai Emery said yesterday:

He didn’t play the last matches but to me, he’s just like any other player. This Saturday he can be with us if he’s okay. He’s training consistently with his work over the past two weeks and I think he can be [involved].

The player himself took to social media on Friday to say that he was “feeling good and confident”.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to have Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) available for Saturday’s visit of Brighton, with the Chilean having returned to training this week.

The Seagulls will again be without Bernardo (hamstring) and Jose Izquierdo (knee).

Benjamin Mendy (knee) isn’t quite ready to feature for Manchester City against Huddersfield, who will have interim boss Mark Hudson in charge.

Moussa Sissoko (groin) has joined Harry Kane (ankle) on the sidelines for Spurs’ match against Fulham, while Son Heung-min has now departed for the Asian Cup.

Lucas Moura (knee) was said to have commenced “on-field rehabilitation” on Friday, so looks unlikely to feature.

Marko Arnautovic had been passed fit to play against Bournemouth this weekend but the Austrian was reportedly not part of the travelling party on Friday and looks set to miss out.

The Cherries have concerns over their own star striker, with Callum Wilson (hamstring) needing a late fitness test ahead of the visit of the Hammers.

Phil Jagielka is Everton’s only confirmed injured-related absentee, with Marco Silva again reiterating in his press conference that Richarlison is an option up front or on the left flank.

Danny Ings looks set to return for Southampton, meanwhile.

Will Hughes (concussion) is a major concern for Watford ahead of the visit of Burnley, who still have worries over Johann Berg Gudmundsson (thigh).

Loan signing Oumar Niasse could be part of Cardiff’s squad as they head north to Newcastle, with Neil Warnock also positive about the fitness of Victor Camarasa (knock).

The Magpies will make late checks on a cluster of players, including Jamaal Lascelles (hamstring).

Jonny Evans (toe) could make a quick return for Leicester against Wolves, who will be without the suspended Willy Boly.

Claudio Ranieri reported no new injuries in the Fulham camp, meanwhile.

      Alli all day for me.

12 blanks in Firminho’s last 17 including blanks in games against Huddersfield, Cardiff, Wolves, Burnley, Brighton Southampton and Newcastle. Also a Striker playing in midfield don’t get the attraction at all

cheers for this--- I suppose it's a striker in midfield versus potentially a midfield upfront for 0.4m cheaper.

Thinking about it, there is more potential for Alli to get a big haul compared to Bobby F.

Is anyone worried based on the recent stats that Liverpool may not sustain their clean sheet rate ?

I mean look at how Man City went from 7 clean sheets in a row to 8 no clean sheets in a row.

It’s very possible and can’t always be relied upon.

    1. DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy

Personally it is why I get cheap keepers and defenders with attacking points in them, a cleanie can go in a second...

        • 11 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Yeah don’t get me wrong they’ve done incredibly and I’m keen to get TAA back so I have some cover from their incredible form at the back.

Just see people thinking they’ll get minimum 12 points every week with a defensive double up and could come crashing down to earth quite quickly 😉

Liverpool have a much better defense than Man City though. Take Fernandinho out of that City lineup and they get exposed for what they are, which is the same bad defense its always been.

the fact that fpl weighs rewards heavily in favor of clean sheets as opposed to number of goals conceded adds in a lot of variance but liverpool have undoubtedly the best defence in the league, very good fixtures, no BGWs and cheap options

          That’s completely wrong.

There’s value in defence. Stacks of it. Deeper than any other position.

Doherty you got for 4.4 and then Robertson is 6.7. Insane difference.

Spurs won't miss Kane as much as some of the lazy dangermonkey media would have tabloid readers believe. Of course they will miss him but he wasn't exactly ripping it up just yet. Arguably Son is a bigger loss to them. Spurs still have decent attacking talents and a solid defence. Liverpool without Van Dijk, United without De Gea would be a bigger gap to fill.

    Which combo do you prefer

    A) Jonny, puncheon, firmino (puncheon would sit on bench).

    B) doherty, Anderson, ings

TAA has 357275 transfers out so far this week on the back of injury doubt and now it might not be that bad after all.

That is some kick in the teeth for those that dumped him especially for a hit.

Yeah I’m very lucky I was priced out due to an unexpected rise from doing TAA to Robertson for a couple of weeks.

These thin bits of luck separate us.

As an owner I don't get why they lost him. I saw nothing concrete about this injury and the next match was midweek. Surely worth holding for those 10 days to get a bit more news?

agree, we have benches for stuff like this anyway, it's not like he's expensive

Red flags and a month out on FPL would probably have got me tbh. Unlike FPL to get it so wrong.

Yeah lots jumped the gun going after those price swings and may end up paying the price themselves.

Of course he is worth keeping if he is back sooner than thought first.

I don't think FPL have ever got an injury and flag so wrong?

Took a hit to change TAA to VVD

Well we dont know for sure how wrong they have got it yet.

They are not infallible and are only relying on reports themselves so it has happened before and will happen again.

True but what reports did they rely on as apparently there were no official ones?

Yep, one of them here. He was red flagged as well, so somebody must've thought the injury information was solid.

I might still sell for a hit to be honest to Shaw. TAA is still unlikely to start, and Shaw has a decent chance of a clean sheet tomorrow, as well as some good upcoming fixtures.

Got a bit of spare cash, which would you do

    a) Camarasa -> Lamela (keep 3-5-2)
    b) Quaner -. Ings (shift to a 4-3-3)
    c) TAA -> Robinson (Jonny to come in for TAA if he doesn't play, so this isn't essential

Hi all. How would you raise 0.5m to find Arnie to Rashford from the below? Was going to be TAA out but may as well hold now.

    Many thanks:
    Lloris (Button)
    TAA, Robertson, Digne (Bennett, AWB)
    Hazard, Salah, Pererya, Anderson, Pogba
    Kun, Arnie/Rash, (Kamara)

Playing TAA with Camarasa first sub.

At least one will play right? Trying to hold off more hits and only AWB is available on the bench behind Camarasa.
