Fixtures

First FPL Double Gameweek of the season confirmed

The Premier League have announced there will be two Manchester City and Everton fixtures in a Double Gameweek 25.

The two clubs’ postponed fixture from Gameweek 27, caused by City’s commitment to the League Cup final, has been brought forward to sit in the round of matches after the next one.

Everton will host Pep Guardiola’s men on Wednesday 6 February.

Manchester City’s combination of Arsenal (home) and Everton (away) is perhaps not quite as exciting as if Chelsea had been handed a Double Gameweek 25, but still offers them a chance for plenty of attacking returns.

However, it will be hard to pick out the key players who will start both of them given Pep Guardiola’s selection policy during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Not only will the turnaround time between the Arsenal and Everton matches be short, just four days after the trip to Goodison Park comes an important Sunday afternoon meeting with Chelsea in Gameweek 26.

Perhaps the only players likely to play both matches in Double Gameweek 25 for Manchester City are Ederson (£5.6m) and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m), with plenty of options to rotate others around them.

Everton’s doubles don’t offer the same level of potential with Wolves their opponents already scheduled for that Gameweek.

Crucially, with Double Gameweek clubs then having a Blank in Gameweek 27, there will have to be careful management from Fantasy managers. They may want to stock up on Double Gameweek players for Gameweek 25, but they will be effectively useless in Blank Gameweek 27.

Some of the cheaper options such as Laporte or Lucas Digne (£5.3m) would be easier to bench,  but the likes of Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), Leroy Sané (£9.7m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) being inactive could make fielding a strong XI without taking hits a difficult task.

That particular dilemma could see some managers opt to use the Free Hit chip either in Double Gameweek 25 or Blank Gameweek 27, although it could have a bigger impact when the bigger Blank Gameweeks occur later in the campaign.

Also, Gameweek 25 could be the first time this season that a real opportunity for the deployment of the Triple Captain has presented itself.

Later opportunities to use the chip would include Gameweeks 32 or 35, which are currently expected to be Doubles, although the Bench Boost and Free Hit chips, as well as the second Wildcard, also need to be considered.

With the Bench Boost and Free Hit offering better potential in the bigger Double Gameweeks, and the Triple Captain only capable of affecting one match, the make-up of Double Gameweek 25 would present an appealing case for the chip.

Triple Captain aside, Fantasy managers will have to choose whether they want to use the Doubles to influence their armband decision at all. There will, of course, be the option to stick with the tried and tested, and captain a more reliable player even if they only have one fixture.

Recent standout candidate Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) will be away at West Ham in Gameweek 25, where he scored on his most recent league visit in August 2017. Furthermore, he has six double-figure hauls in his last eight Premier League matches.

There's a few days between games, surely Sane is likely to play both if Mendy is out injured again.

Sane for me. Reckon he'll play both even if Mendy fit. Sane is in great form and City can't afford to drop league points, think he will get his rests in cup games. Maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into TC him though ha.

The way Everton defended in the FA Cup this weekend, I can easily see City putting five or six past them. Great for your City assets, not so the Everton ones. Another minus score for Digne? Seems to like them. 🙂

Spurs the better team, but poor at taking their chances. Trippier, N'Koudou and Llorente particularly culpable.

Right, Without VAR, the ref has to commit to a decision, not knowing if he's correct. Aka guessing

    2. Deulofail
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

Why not? The ref probably not 100% certain which part of his arm it hit. If it hit hit foreharm/hand, I would wager that VAR would give a penalty.

    @BenCrellin
Spurs will only get a Blank in GW31 if Crystal Palace win their 5th Round tie (R5 draw is tomorrow night)
Spurs will only get a Blank in GW33 if Brighton reach the FA Cup SFs

    @BenCrellin
If Chelsea reach the SFs of both the FA Cup and the Europa League, they'll have three Blanks with only two free midweeks to move them to; That might mean they'd get a Triple GW and a Double GW in GWs 32+35.

Who's your other keeper? If he's £4.0 I think Ederson is a legit move.

        Button.

I am not a big fan of premium GKs. However, given that currently I have spare cash and no need to invest elsewhere, I think Ederson may be a good alternative.

After the above mentionned transfers, I would be at:

        Ederson
        Robertson, TAA, Digne
        Sane, Pogba, Eriksen, Hazard, Salah
        Rashford, Jimenez

        Button, Bissaka, Bednarek, Kamara

        Cheers!

Thoughts on Haz and Fanderson to Sane and Dilva in the DGW? Or get Rich instead of Dilva?

The GK transfer market has been especially weird this year

Allison sitting with +0.5m, yet only 5 points ahead of Etheridge who has only +0.2m... who is only 1 point ahead of Ederson who has only +0.1m and looks set to drop

Then you have Fab & Kepa who are 10 points behind them yet have risen 0.2 & 0.1 respectively

I have Ederson, was originally planning to sell but now might hold, could easily see him being top GK on points by end of season, all it takes is one of his customary penalty saves & he’ll rocket up

A lot went for DDG at the start of the season, then a lot moved off Ederson after 7 or so blanks in a row, which has sort of messed things up before he got a few clean sheets there

I’m now seriously having second thoughts about selling him.p, aside from the blanks, his fixtures are decent

Of the top 6 keepers, himself & Allison are up there without penalty saves, whereas Etheridge (3), Loris (1), Fabinaksi (1), Foster(1) are all benefitting from the extra pen save points.

I think it’s probably worth holding Ederson & hoping he saves a pen or two before end of season - if you don’t have budget issues elsewhere

Currently have Ederson and Hamer. Better to get in Schmeichel to set and forget for the next 5/6 weeks, or Fabianski for Hamer and play when Ederson blanks?
