Captains

Captain Sensible – Best Man City players in Double Gameweek 25

Manchester City options have dominate the Double Gameweek 25 captaincy as they prepare for two Premier League fixtures in a matter of days.

Fantasy managers are therefore faced with two dilemmas concerning the first Double of the season.

The first is assessing which of Pep Guardiola’s men is the best option, especially considering his rather unpredictable rotation policy.

The second is whether or not to trust that player with the armband when there are also some decent options with only one match this Gameweek.

We aim to tackle both of these issues in this week’s Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

After scoring Manchester City’s only goal in their defeat at Newcastle, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the most popular captain candidate for Gameweek 25. He has a 29% share of the vote at the time of writing.

For the first time in several weeks, we actually have a closely contested battle for the armband according to the poll, with Leroy Sané (£9.7m) hot on Aguero’s tails with 24% of the vote. Those who have given the German their backing are likely to be influenced by his greater chance of starting both matches in Gameweek 25.

Voters are probably less sure of a start for Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), as he has just 9.5% of the vote currently. The England international is doing battle with Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) for third place, as 9.2% of the voters believe that Liverpool’s match away at West Ham is captain material on its own, even with the Doubles in play.

Having found the net on his immediate return from the Asian Cup, Son Heung-min (£8.6m) leads the chasing pack. 6% of voters are backing this differential option ahead of a home meeting with Newcastle on Saturday lunch-time. Since Gameweek 13, Son has averaged nine points per appearance for Spurs, an incredible run of form.

The two fixtures for Everton seems to have given Richarlison (£6.8m) a bit of a boost in the poll, with 4.9% of voters backing him as the best captain option with matches against Wolves and Manchester City. Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is also in the mix with a 1.6% share, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) sat between the two Toffees on 3.9%.

Other Manchester City options considered by a select few include Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) backed by 1.09% and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m) on 0.57%.

How’s about David Silva as a differential this DGW instead of Sane / Sterling?

Also means I can afford Hazard > Son and Rashford > Aubameyang in the future.

Think it is a really good differential. That it enables the other transfers you list adds more benefit. If the DGW on Silva doesn't pay off to the extent you hope, the cumulative effect of enabling the other transfers and subsequent points hopefully makes up for it.

      Good luck, good hedging bet.

Gundogan/Bilva/Kdb will rotate with him whereas only Mahrez rotates with Sane/Sterling

Bilva also rotates with the wingers. So does Mendy.

I think we should all agree that everyone City is a rotation risk,

Him and Hazard are the worst OOP players ever, far less effective the higher up the pitch they play.

If Salah had a DGW this season it would be an obvious call, but given you can't TC, and BB in the same week, I don't know if we'll get a better chance than this week.

Salah still has Huddersfield at home in 36 but I’m waiting for blank 31 where he has Fulham away. 31 is likely to be a problem week for many if the FA Cup goes to form. A trip chip there could see massive gains against teams that will be taking hits for lack of forward planning.

So you're planning to TC Salah in a SGW?

Re. GW31 - is this the week of the FA cup QFs?
Do you know how many fixtures are likely to be affected? It seemed to me that lots of PL teams went out, and one of Utd v Chelsea will also be out before the QFs.
Are you thinking FH will be best used this week?

              1. pingissimus
                • 5 Years
                5 years, 2 months ago

                Yep it’s the QFs.

We won’t know for a couple of weeks who plays but City, Spurs and United assets are almost certainly out.

I’m saving the FH for double 32 where there should be plenty of big hitters from City, United and Sours that play twice. The upside of using it then should massively outweigh using it in 31.

An jnteresting team is Bournemouth - they. Have really tasty fixtures in both 31 and 33 - the two big blanks and I plan to get in Brooks and Clyde ahead of time and add Wilso. If he gets fit.

So if Palace go through, Spurs and I mean Kane, have a DGW including a home game against Palace, that is tempting.

Not sure any United assets are worth TC, but you'd right that the FH might be required in 31.

Thank you for posting this, it's really helpful.

As annoying as the answer may be, it kinda depends on your chip strategy. You may want Camarasa down the line, and wasting transfers on fodder players could be the difference between playing 9, 10 or 11 players in a blank week. You may need to ship Kamara instead. Firmino or Vardy could fit into a FH32 strategy if that's your plan, as would the sale of Kamara, killing 2 birds with one stone. But as I say, depends. On the face of it, yeah of course Son looks really, really good as an FPL option compared to Camarasa.

Really Struggling this week. Would appreciate your input lads.

    Only 1 DGW player. 2FT 1.3ITB.

    Fabianski / Hamer
    VVD / Digne / Shaw / Bednarek / WanB
    Salah / Pogba / Richarlison / Hazard / Billing
    Auba / Jiminez / Rashford

Thinking Digne to Laporte and roll over the other transfer.

This GW Hazard & Anderson > Sane & BSilva (free)
        Next GW Digne & B.Silva > Bednarek & Son (-4)

        Or

This GW Digne, Hazard & Anderson > Bednarek, Sane & Son (-4)

Fr is Suarez @ 6.5 definitely one to monitor. Batshuayi (6.5) could be, too, eg if Rashford goes off the boil.

Not seen Almiron (6.0 NEW CAM) play much but heard he’s decent.
