Captains

Captain Sensible – Best Man City players in Double Gameweek 25

Manchester City options have dominate the Double Gameweek 25 captaincy as they prepare for two Premier League fixtures in a matter of days.

Fantasy managers are therefore faced with two dilemmas concerning the first Double of the season.

The first is assessing which of Pep Guardiola’s men is the best option, especially considering his rather unpredictable rotation policy.

The second is whether or not to trust that player with the armband when there are also some decent options with only one match this Gameweek.

We aim to tackle both of these issues in this week’s Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

After scoring Manchester City’s only goal in their defeat at Newcastle, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the most popular captain candidate for Gameweek 25. He has a 29% share of the vote at the time of writing.

For the first time in several weeks, we actually have a closely contested battle for the armband according to the poll, with Leroy Sané (£9.7m) hot on Aguero’s tails with 24% of the vote. Those who have given the German their backing are likely to be influenced by his greater chance of starting both matches in Gameweek 25.

Voters are probably less sure of a start for Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), as he has just 9.5% of the vote currently. The England international is doing battle with Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) for third place, as 9.2% of the voters believe that Liverpool’s match away at West Ham is captain material on its own, even with the Doubles in play.

Having found the net on his immediate return from the Asian Cup, Son Heung-min (£8.6m) leads the chasing pack. 6% of voters are backing this differential option ahead of a home meeting with Newcastle on Saturday lunch-time. Since Gameweek 13, Son has averaged nine points per appearance for Spurs, an incredible run of form.

The two fixtures for Everton seems to have given Richarlison (£6.8m) a bit of a boost in the poll, with 4.9% of voters backing him as the best captain option with matches against Wolves and Manchester City. Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is also in the mix with a 1.6% share, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) sat between the two Toffees on 3.9%.

Other Manchester City options considered by a select few include Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) backed by 1.09% and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m) on 0.57%.

Prefer Sane for now, KDB when he's fully recovered and Mendy back fit.

    Fab*
    Cook AWB Robbo
    Pogba* Salah Sane Richy
    Jimi Auba Rashford

    Hart Digne TAA** Puncheon

    1.3 ITB, 1 FT

Struggling with this. Any use in the following?
    A. Digne to Laporte
    B. Hart to Ederson
    C. Pogba to Son
    D. Auba to Aguero

    Issues:
    A. Don't want Laporte long term and potential for cook clean sheet at Cardiff.
    B. Ederson potentially useful seen as both keepers might not play?
    C. Pogba maybe out but but want long term and have loads of value locked in him
    D. Would want to reverse after DGW so maybe a waste?

    Help required...

    Fabianski - Button
    Robertson - TAA - Digne - Doherty - AWB
    Salah – Hazard – Richarlison – Pogba – Masuaku
    Jimenez – Wilson – Rashford

    1FT, 3.5 ITB

Have exact money for Masuaku & Wilson > Sane & Crouch (-4). I know Crouch won't play but neither was Masuaku previously. Would also captain Sane. Is this move worth it for a hit? Thanks!

    Currently on:

    Foster, Boruc
    Alonso, Doherty, AWB, TAA, Bednarek
    Salah, Hazard, FAnderson, Richarlison, Camarasa
    Auba, Rashford, Success

Have 2FT and £1.5 ITB. Keen to get some City players in obviously. Two options have come to mind:

    A) FAnderson + Auba > Sane + Jesus. Assume Jesus will play quite a few mins this GW. Problem is then I don't want him as long-term option and replacement becomes difficult

    B) Hazard + FAnderson + Auba > Sane + Aguero + Pogba for -4. Need to get Pogba in at some point, Hazard hasn't been great recently but also Chelsea are at home to Huddersfield...

    Any help very welcome

I'm doing Hazard > Sane, but maybe leaving Firmino > Aguero, so I can get Auba in next week and get rid of David Luiz.

What we learnt in the buildup to gameweek 25:

Pogba is expected to be fit for the Leicester game, as is Martial.
    https://twitter.com/samuelluckhurst/status/1091256127512289280?s=19

Eddie Howe confirmed Wilson would miss out, ikely 3 to 4 weeks. There was no news on Brooks.
    https://twitter.com/afcbournemouth/status/1091262200088588288?s=19

Koscielny is back in training, Maitland-Niles and Mkhitaryan will have late fitness tests. Will update with anything learnt from the Arsenal presser - It has been delayed, should have happened at 1 and I'm now bored of waiting.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1091267551013883904?s=19

Ederson suffered a nasty gash in (in? on? Someone correct me) his leg during the Newcastle game, but the extent of injury hasn’t been confirmed. Pep in his presser suggested that he is ok, as only Kompany is not training.
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/01/30/manchester-city-hit-ederson-injury-concern-damaging-newcastle/

Pep is not sure if Mendy will be ready for the Arsenal game. They'll take it day by day.
    https://twitter.com/jamesrobsonES/status/1091328349824315392

Camarasa is struggling to be ready for GW 25.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1091312681099894784?s=19

Arnautovic hasn’t been definitively ruled out for GW 25, however he faces a late check to see if he can actually kick a ball on Monday. Fabianski should be ok come game time, but Nasri will miss out.
    https://twitter.com/Sam_InkersoleTM/status/1091313567633158144?s=19

New Newcastle signing Almiron will not make his debut this week, due to Visa issues.
    https://twitter.com/RobertoRojas97/status/1091315257610522626

Son will face a late fitness test to see if he can start for Spurs following cramp in the game against Watford.
    https://twitter.com/BenDinnery/status/1091319238634160129?s=20

Kane, Alli and Davies are out still, unsurprisingly. However, Kane is progressing well.
    https://twitter.com/RickSpur/status/1091252496595591169?s=19

TAA is still out, but should be back in full training next week.
    https://twitter.com/JamesPearceEcho/status/1091328034530054144

Gomez still faces a bit longer on the sidelines.
    https://twitter.com/JamesPearceEcho/status/1091331907432923140

Michy Batshuayi may be fit enough to play for Palace this weekend, but his fitness will be checked this afternoon. May well make his debut with Zaha suspended.
    https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1091329497754931201

Jagielka and Mina are injured, Digne is suspended whilst Baines and Gueye will have late fitness tests

Great post - any comment by Eddie Howe on Boruc? Safe to assume he's got the starting role nailed down? Could be a nice second keeper given no blanks coming up and the last two games they've looked better defensively...

        Nothing that I heard.

Begovic struggled a little so Boruc was given a chance, and he's responded with 2 clean sheets and some great performances, so I think he should hang on to his role. Looks exceptional value in the run in if he does.

Vote time! To follow up on an earlier discussion. Knowing Pep and his team selection (as far as we can). Did Pep sub Sané vs Newcastle because

    A. He was playing particularly badly; or

    B. To save him for a tough couple of games in quick succession.

I'd be interested to know the balance of opinion.

When people say 'I think' that something will happen, such as player X will start both game, what they're really saying is 'I want, and hope' player X starts both games...'because that's who I own/have captained'.

Not judging anyone for this, but it's just human nature, after all we've made our transfer choices for a reason.

Oh I see 🙂 yeah this is true. We all have our biases. FWIW I didn't have Sané and I had two FTs when I came to my conclusion that he was being saved. I didn't have to go with him and, as I'm chasing, would have preferred an excuse to back a differential. I just think he might be the safest pick of the bunch barring, perhaps Bilva.

I've said it a few times, but I don't think any of Aguero, Sane, or Sterling will play 180 minutes, but confident all three play more than 90, and even the player with the least minutes, could easily get the most points.

Yeah two appearances would be a very decent start. It's not about guarantees returns but increased probabilities of them, if that makes sense.

Exactly, this is what is steering me towards TC this week.
Any player can have a bad game, Salah just did against Leicester when we all expected returns.
But at least if Sterling/Sane/Aguero have a bad game against Arsenal, at least they might get an extra 20-30 minutes against Everton to get something.

And if nothing else it's an extra appearance point x3. I only got 3x3 from my TC last season (Kane in the first DGW) but it's three more than if I'd backed a blanking SGWer.

I think the two aren't mutually exclusive. Pep may think he's important for the upcoming games, and all too happy to replace him when he wasn't having an effective game. Win-win in a way.

Lol good points. I immediately saw it as being to save him but then I don't really watch football so don't know how effective he was 🙂

Played my Free Hit chip, how does this team look for this DGW?

    Guaita

Van Dijk - AWB - Doherty

    Salah - Hazard - Sane - KDB - Moutinho

    Aguero - Rashford

Thoughts? KDB maybe the only one i'm unsure of?

Rich should be there if it's FH. I'd take out Rashford and upgrade Mou.

Happy with my starting 11 but bench in dire straits and may be needed if pogba out. Who would you prioritise out of these with the FT?

    Hamer - Digne - Kiko - Quaner

Whats the story with comments going for review?

This morning when trying to post anything, it was "going for review - will appear shortly", then no sign of them ever actually posting, and now seems like I can post again.

2FTs depending on Kun Outscoring Auba in GW25 which should happen but not sure if he will outscore by that much since he might not even play vs Everton as they have Chelsea next so a early goal could mean he stays on the bench

    Aubameyang, Rashford (Kamara)

    2FT, 0.1 in bank

    A) Digne --> Kolasinac / Doherty
