Sane benched but Aguero and Sterling start in City’s first DGW fixture

The first of two Manchester City matches in Double Gameweek 25 kicks off at 16:30 GMT this afternoon, with Arsenal the visitors to the Etihad.

Leroy Sane (£9.8m) has been benched for only the second time in 13 Gameweeks, though Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), Sergio Aguero (£11.4m), David Silva (£8.5m), Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) all start.

Danilo (£5.1m), John Stones (£5.2m), Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m) and Gabriel Jesus (£10.0m) are among the substitutes for the hosts.

Sane was the second-most-popular triple captaincy choice of this Gameweek, with 26,429 Fantasy managers using this chip on the German winger.

Aguero and Sterling were the first and third-most-popular choices for the triple captaincy this weekend.

City still have Everton to face at Goodison Park on Wednesday, of course.

Pep Guardiola’s formation is still to be determined, with City’s line-up missing an orthodox left-back and seemingly set to use Bernardo in a wide role.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) are once again paired up front for Arsenal today, with Unai Emery reverting to a wing-back system for the trip to Eastlands.

Mesut Ozil (£8.0m) is joined by Denis Suarez (£6.5m) on the away bench, with Laurent Koscielny (£5.4m) returning from injury in defence.

Granit Xhaka (£5.3m) misses out with a slight groin problem.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3, tbc): Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

Arsenal XI (3-4-3): Leno, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal, Kolasinac, Guendouzi, Torreira, Lichtsteiner, Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

    A disappointing 51 points, with only Robertson Salah(c) Sane to go.

    Was feeling good after yesterday, too! Auba over Aguero wrecked me today, just hope Salah can make up for it.

    Live and learn I suppose. Will maybe risk it with Aguero’s minutes next time. 🙂 🙁

          I am on 51 also, but have few more players left. Didn't captain Aguero but at least owned him.

          Hopefully Liverpool can defend and I should finish this GW okay.

          Have Salah, Alisson and Van Dijk to play, but 2nd games from Laporte, Aguero and Sane (who was my TC).

          Just goes to show that comparably it is not a bad game week even for those like me who have TC on Sane.

        My ‘casual’ playing friends captained aguero whilst I captained sane 🙁

        It’s because of the effort we put in and how much it is on my mind, if i played more casual then I would be less annoyed , that’s a good note to self..think I’m going to ease off a little as I don’t want to feel like this again lol

          Yep I’m with you buddy. Reckon we have just been unlucky with Sane not playing (for first time in ages) and Kun going crazy for, again, first time in ages. By all accounts he was quite lucky to get 3 goals.

    My Sterling punt payed off. I hope he gets some gametime against Everton and get at least another assist or goal. But realistically he will most likely be rested as he played 90 mins today. Sane and Mahrez to replace Sterling and Bilva imo.

      May be bias as a heartbroken non owner of both but wouldn’t be surprised to see Sane Jesus Mahrez vs Everton. Should be enough to get it done, and maybe Sterling on for last 30

    I mean, picking Augero or Sane, could have ended up going either way, may well have been that Aguero benched for playing 90 minute v Newcastle. Sane after all had started every week and is younger and should therefore be fitter. So I am not at all bitter. That is the luck of the game.

    I own both players, TC on Sane with Vice on Augero. If Sane doesn't play (unlikely) then great. Otherwise 90min for Sane is still fine if he scores or assists.

    Only combination I will rage if Sane is making only a cameo appearance, but that must be extremely low probability, even for Pep trolling.

      Despite having Aguero (C) I was pleased to see him subbed early. For me, he starts the Everton game. With City trying to chase down Liverpool's lead, he needs his best players on the pitch. No reason to rotate.
