Moving on from latest Pep-troll and the curse of the mid-price defender

For many of us, the last four Gameweeks of Fantasy Premier League have been comical, to say the least.

It’s certainly been that way for me. You couldn’t write it. Let’s go back to Gameweek 22.

Aboubakar Kamara (£4.5m) is transferred in just days before he decides to fight Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.5m) in a yoga class. The first person in the history of yoga classes to start a fight in a yoga class. Kamara is loaned out to Yeni Malatyaspor as punishment and gets red-flagged.

In Gameweek 23, Marcos Alonso (£6.5m) was shipped out for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.2m) on the Sunday night after the Spaniard managed just two points in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Newcastle.

Tuesday rolls around and Trent is ruled out for four weeks due to injury. Burned by moving early. Another red flag.

On to Gameweek 24. The injured Alexander-Arnold makes may for Everton’s Lucas Digne (£5.3m). Digne is benched by Marko Silva, comes on for Leighton Baines (£5.0m) after 55 minutes and gets himself sent off shortly afterwards. A painful -2. Yes, you’ve guessed it, yet another red flag.

Next up, double Gameweek 25 and visions of 100+ points. “Leroy Sané (£9.7m) has the best chance of starting both games.” Captain Leroy it is then.

Pep Guardiola decides to bring his FPL trolling to a new level, not playing the German at all against Arsenal then substituting him in the 59th minute against Everton. One point over the two games. ONE! Despair for triple captainers.

Naming my podcast ‘The 59th Minute’ came back to bite me in spectacular fashion. One can only laugh (otherwise I’d cry).

With Chelsea up next then a Blank in Gameweek 27 coupled with the pain he’s caused, Sane is the most transferred-out player this week.

It’s no surprise to see that Son Heung-min (£8.7m) is the most popular replacement. The South Korean has scored in back-to-back games since returning from the Asian Cup and faces Leicester (home) and Burnley (away) in his next two.

He’s got seventeen attacking returns (10 goals, 7 assists) in just nineteen appearances this season. A points machine.

Paul Pogba (£8.6m) and Sadio Mané (£9.5m) are two others to consider for those looking to jump off a Man City midfielder this week.

Pogba has six goals and three assists in his last seven appearances while Mane has outshone his more expensive teammate Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) in recent Gameweeks scoring in each of the last three matches. Mo points for less Mane?

Richarlison (£6.8m) is another player who has to go soon. The curse of ‘keeping a player because he has a double Gameweek’ strikes again. One attacking return in seven just isn’t good enough.

There are plenty of replacement options with the likes of Diogo Jota (£6.0m), Pascal Gross (£6.7m) and James Ward-Prowse (£5.1m) finding form in recent weeks. Early season favourites Ryan Fraser (£6.1m) and Felipe Anderson (£7.1m) shouldn’t be ignored either.

Eden Hazard (£10.9m) and Gonzalo Higuain (£9.5m) linked up well versus Huddersfield and posted good scores but it’s important to remember that it was Huddersfield, a team preparing for life back in the Championship.

The Blues face Man City (away) then have a blank in Gameweek 27 followed by Spurs (home). A tricky run. Higuain is on the Watchlist for now while Hazard will be making way this week to make space for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m).

The Gabonese international should do damage over the next three Gameweeks as his Arsenal side come up against Huddersfield (away), Southampton (home) and Bournemouth (home).

Captaincy for Gameweek 26 isn’t straightforward. Salah faces Bournemouth at home but he has blanked in the last two Gameweeks.

Aubameyang has 15 goals to his name but just six of those have come away from the Emirates, and he has had an illness in the week too.

The likes of Pogba and Rashford should be considered as they travel to face a struggling Fulham side.

Son is another candidate this week with Spurs welcoming Leicester to Wembley. Lots of options.

Having captained Mo for his hat trick against Bournemouth earlier in the season, I think that’s where my armband will be, come deadline on Saturday.

    The TC chip is that one that wanders around never finding a definitive home

    We wield it like an ultimate weapon but usually proves to be as ineffectual as a toy foam pirate sword

    I'm starting to think are we better to just go with a gut feeling and try it in a week where most things are lined up correctly - that includes SGWs?

    Realistically are there any of the bigger hitters that would normally be TC candidates that would likely play 180 mins or close in a DGW? I know it happens but it's a total lottery and then you have the factor of their ability to haul when they are playing 2 matches in 3/4 days

    I haven't convinced myself yet but thinking especially as I am chasing and needing big green arrows to get to a respectable place that I am better off just going for Salah this week and if it works then fantastic, if not then I'm not convinced the impact will be huge....

    Thoughts?

        Haz is the one player I can think of that, due to his lack of decent competition this season in his position, would play much of both matches if needed.

        But he is such a troll that I'm not sure I could stomach it as he is just as likely to do a Sané a la GW25...

      If you have all the chips intact & going to play FH in gw32 you can try & play TC in a BGW 31/33.
      That way you can keep up with guy's playing FH in BGW's.
      Just a thought.

        Yes there is definitely a way to capitalise on a blank to play TC and leapfrog tons of people but you really have to have all the Stats pointing to the player hauling

        I think TC this GW will be a big differential if it pays off..... just don't know if I have the cojones...

      I've been pondering it especially given that he scored a hat trick last time he played them but there's that nagging suspicion that Chelsea or Arsenal might get a tasty double so I'll probably bottle it. Always feel that at least with a dgw you've got the security of that second game.

      1. Lemongrab

        Saying that last season I chucked it on Kane for his double and got rewarded with 3 points!

        I know but is it security or is it a charade under false pretences!?

        I had the classic Kane TC fail last season but the other chips were far more useful at propelling me through the ranks.

        BB is the key DGW chip. TC is just such a gamble - i feel like especially this season

      Chosing right captain is lottery, you can read all articles, news and information you can find, every star and planet can line up but still your chosen one can blank. So using TC in dgw makes a lot sense because you have more CHANCE to get it right. Nothing less nothing more.

    2 FT, £2.3 ITB, OR 4,735

    Patricio
    Doherty / Bednarek / Robertson
    Salah / Hazard / Sterling / Richarlison / Pogba
    Jimenez / Rashford

    Speroni / Wan-Bissaka / Peltier / Kamara

    Which one would yo go for?

    A. Hazard + Richarlison -> Son + Mane
    Would get Mane for Blank GW31 and Son would be my GW27 captain keeping Kamara as bench fodder

    B. GW26 Hazard -> Son
    GW27 Richarlison + Kamara -> Aubameyang (C) + Mid Bench Fodder (ideally a GW31 / 33 starter)
    Would move to 3-4-3 formation

    C. GW26 Richarlison -> Son
    GW27 Hazard + Kamara -> Aubameyang (C) + Mid Bench Fodder (ideally a GW31 / 33 starter)
    Would move to 3-4-3 formation

    Difference between B and C would be which one to get rid first Hazard or Richarlison. Still think Richarlison could do more damage against Watford (A) than Hazard against Man City (A).

    Cheers.

        Keeping someone purely based on their penalty taking duties and/or their last decent performance against the worst team in the league is speculative at best. City blank Spurs in the next 3 for Hazard, and there`s no value tied up in him either.

      Sanè usually does better against the top teams than Sterling. Sterling punishes weak defenders, Sanè just a better winger overall imo

      Love the sky game. And likely to be in a minority here but parts of it like this don’t sit easy with me and think they need to look at what info they are going to drip feed into the public domain. I mean, if one player sees this would they have an advantage over someone who didn’t?

      it should either be a part of the game or not. Like average transfers, randomly disclosed to certain players or even one week they fired it out on the official twitter then nothing. I get it isn’t a make or break piece of information, a useful gauge but one that shouldn’t need to be stumbled across.

        I agree it should come direct from Sky (and save me the trouble).

        However i think they just want give their hardcore followers something back, support if you will.

        Average Joe does not care about these kind of stats so i guess its just the way they have decided to run it. Engaging the community, or at least trying.

        As i have said before its not much different from the Price Change sites or FPL discovery. Its additional info that is available for those that want it, it does not come direct from the source.

        Im not even sure it does offer an advantage anyway, but thats another point.

        1. McEwan

          Cheers for getting back to us.

          Totally agree it should come from them. Maybe if there is another article here in the off-season asking about the game, the clarity of these things will be asked.

          It’s in no way a dig at yourself or anyone else that shares the info, the more the better tbh and great that people are looking to push the game. Your articles on here were fantastic, a loss to this site personally so thanks for your time spend on them.

          When I asked them for the information on averages I was told it was not information they provide so maybe that’s a source of the frustration.

          I take your point on the fpl stuff but that is all data that anyone could work out for themselves as that data is available to mine, none of it is hidden.(and not for one second am I saying that it is an easy process) even a basic sort by transfers in and out for gw can give you an indication of which way a player is going.

          Certainly not a gamechanging advantage but I would say someone who knows the average over someone who didn’t would be an advantage. If you see the count around your rank, 3 weeks later you havnt used a transfer and the count has dropped by two and your rank hasn’t suffered, I would find that useful

            Yeah fair, lets hope they start releasing the info or can it all together.

            In going to ask i no longer recieve it for next season in anycase unless im writing articles here. I no longer want the responsibility lol!

              Kinda hope you were at that conclusion before this thread and not off the back of it as that certainly wasn’t my intention. Think it’s great the info on the game, more the better. You ask, they delivered and you’ve shared, not any personal gain from it, and informed a lot of interested people along the way. The access of it should come from the game and open to all is my ultimate gripe on it

          The Brighton rotation is pretty good though!

          West Ham just look calamitous at the moment so I’m not sure on Fabianski.

          What’s putting you off Patrício then? Double up with Doherty?

            Precisely that- Fabianski does get lot of save points and plays in 31

              The Boruc double up means you don’t need to worry so much about 31 though as he has a plum fixture, right?

              Looking again I think there is a lot of merit in a Ryan/Boruc double up.

    Are Guaita and Boruc both nailed?

    I’m on a WC and settled on Boruc for my bench, trying to figure out who to pair him with and Guaita looks good value if he continues to start.

    Other options I’m looking at are Fabianski and Dubravka.

    Cheers

        Thanks mate, Im thinking Sane to Mane, Haz might actually do something.. dont like taking hits now

          I mean taking hits isnt necessarily bad. Imo they should be viewed over a 3-4 gw period. If done this way, do you expect Son/Manè to outscore Haz by more than 4 points over that period of time? In this case, im inclined to say that they are. But, to each his own. Depends on how many player you have playing for gw 27.

  30. TeamSteam

    Manè or Son? Son more reliable and the main (only?) man for Spurs, but arguably worse fixtures. Manè form player for a somewhat struggling Liverpool, and Manè is known to be a streaky player in terms of goals/assists. Money not an issue.

      Same dilemma, tho I dont even have Pogba.. Mane as a differential probably

        I bit the bullet and got in Pogba a few gw`s ago. The one i don`t get this gw, i will get next anyway so i guess i would rather have Manè against Bournemouth than Son against Leicester. Leicester kinda unpredictable though, result can vary from 1-0 to 4-0 to 0-1.

          Yeah I think Spurs are struggling and are being a bit lucky without their main players, and considering Leicesters form against top 6 it seems right to go Mane this weekend and just get Son the next one
